Hello all, I'm relatively new to the game, just made Lt. Cmdr 6. As soon as I started playing the game I instantly kicked all difficulties to max. Why? Because I love a challenge and I like having an incentive to stay alive. But I am not here to debate to pros and cons of a death penalty.
I'm here to tell the tale of Ensign John Mosher of the starship Excalibur. One of the missions I had was to rescue scientists that were being held as hostages by Klingons. You see, the Klingons didn't round up the hostages and force them into a building, instead they surrounded each hostage with about three guards, one targ handler (minimum) and occasionally either a munitions officer or a swordmaster. Despite setting up several successful ambushes in the past, on this particular mission no matter what I did, my away team kept getting SLAUGHTERED. Not a close match, mind you, but a through and complete butt kicking with my boys totally on the losing end.
In desperation to complete the mission, I resorted to the old Planetside game tactic. Run in, kill one person, get slaughtered. Repeat until finished. This was on the Elite difficulty, suffice it to say injuries mounted up quickly. It was only after this mission that I did a little research in the forums and found out that some enemies were rediculously overpowered. That made me feel better, as I was beginning to think that I was just a lousey tactician and should consider swapping my capatin's chair for a McDonald's cap.
Anyhow, I'm not grummbling about the bugs, I have no doubt the folks at Crypic are well aware and will correct them shortly. However, in the meatime, most of my bridge officers are recovering from multiple injuries of all types, but none took the cake more than Mr. Mosher who ended up with a total 27 critical, 19 major and 12 minor injuries. (14 head traumas, which I think reduce his overall damage by 10% each, you do the math.)
In the end, I realised it would be far more cost effective to let Mr. Mosher croak on the operating table than waste the energy trying to heal him.
BUT, I am okay with it. Because A.) I enjoy a challenge. B.) I like having an incentive to stay alive. And finally C.) It just wouldn't be Star Trek if some random security guard didn't bite the dust.
I have had alot of troubles doing ground missions on elite also. I have no trouble if I am grouped with at least one other person(at least the b'tran dailies)
Nope. Let's say his base damage is 100 (to make the math easy). Subtract 10%, and you get 90. Now, subtract 10% again. You get 81. The following shows the progression (all 14 levels of it):
So as you see, it actually only reduced him to about 23% his original damage capacity. Yes, I know, completely geeked you out here, but it bothers me when people try to make such an uninformed joke.

... so, he was healing the enemy when he fired.
No wonder you let him die on the table. Heck, i would have applied liberal use of a pillow.
Bless you, John Mosher... bless you.
(lol)
Now someone gimme a couple hundred thousand credits so I can buy a new ship and remember the dearly departed.:rolleyes:
Rest in peace, John Mosher.
AHHH! Zombie thread!
It's a good story. But since we have had two season updates since then, is it still valid?

(Yes, I know this was a necro.)
