Well, that truly was an informative, and funny video/dueling sequence. Thank you for taking the time to test how .... changed.... things are on Tribble. Amazing, instead of small tweeks, fine adjustments, they decided to go all (SWG) out. PvE'rs win again!
question; I see a lot of Fleet Support coming randomly for Fed ships, even in this vid the Fed ship under fire gets 3 Fleet Support ships(iinnate ability, I know). Does Fleet Support favour Feds in a certain way? It seems like Feds have a higher chance of getting it then KDF players?
This change is not driven by PVE concerns. No one worries about player vs player balance there.
It's driven by the learning curve for PvE'rs who dabble in PvP, who needlessly and endlessly whine about whatever ability or tactic killed them last. These changes are to dummy down pvp even more than it already is, to make it "accessible" to the "majority" of the player base. For those of us who dedicate our game time to pvp, who have fought in hundreds upon hundreds of pvp matches only to be called "exploiter", "hacker", "cheap", or my personal favorite a "noob" as in "noobs use SNB..noobs use FBP, noobs use TSS, noobs use (insert skill of your choice here)".
The current state of the game, save for the stacking of TSS, only allows for instant kills when the target is inept, unfortunate (crits), or lacks the appropriate defensive abilities. For those that think they should be able to survive for exceedingly long periods of time while being the focus (without support) I say bah humbug. It is possible to stay up against directed, disorganized fire in a pug vs pug, but in a premade vs pug, you are (without the support of your teammates) going to die, and it's going to be quick and messy but fear not, you will not be alone, the rest of your team will be joining you very shortly.
I'm not here advocating the necessity of premades, however if players are judging the fluidity of combat and the durability of their ships from a pug vs premade perspective much as those who whine ad infinitum about D.O.B. or (insert cockey 5 man of your choice here) the balance and enjoyability of the pvp in this game as it has in countless other games will crumble to the way side replaced by loner FotMs and mindless point and clickers.

Ultimately this is what many fleets are tired of, even with proper support the "crazy" crits these escorts can do by themselves on a single ship is insane. In PUG PvP there is some level of competitveness expected in any match, when 1 escort from a premade can lay waste to 5 ships that are focus firing it is insane. I am talking 60K crits after shields are down almost every volley and since most ships cannot survive the first volley how is that fair and balanced. Cruisers only weapon that can do that is a quantum and maybe a BOv but the regularity is one out of 8 to 10 beam shots if you are lucky enough to find hull and usually during a focus fire wher 3 or more ships are keeping the shields down. Now from what I have read on tribble the nerf bat is bit heavy I have been a proponent of nerfing the burst damage but not by the methods cryptic propose I felt that the AP(X) shouldn't stack along witht eh TS(X) abilities shouldn't stack. If the stacking of these abilities especially AP:B were removed it would have slowed the burst damage by a good bit. I do not expect to survive against 2 or 3 escorts for very long but a cruiser or science ship has to be able to survive 1 on 1 against an escort long enough to click what is needed. Right now I have to use HE1, EPtS and ST to survive one escorts Alpha that may be running TSS2 we won't mention the added clicks for an escort running TSS3.
if they are doing this pvp will or better would be boring as hell....
its anyway pretty sad that we pay 15 a month for a game that i probably wouldnt even open for open beta at this state. just continue like this and better rename cryptic after that or start making games for cellphones.
i thaught the balancing of things should go in small steps.... well i´ll probably edit this again after going to tribble now to make it more constructive^^
i was on tribble now :
listing a few changes to Science class and ship:
-SNB recharge goes up 1:00 to 3:00 now and looses 50% of the recherge effect (last part is good first part meh but maybe ok not in combination with the other nerfs though)
-Starship Dampening Field !!!! This is one of the worst changes. recharge time from originally 1:15 to 4:30 and doubling the effect??? what are you guys smoking?
-TSSX1 (sci-ship innate power) recharge time up to 1:40 from 1:10 and i dunno about added counters to it...
begin to see a pattern? heh if you increase all the cooldowns what should i do?
-Jam Sensors and Scramble Sensors: duration lowered by about 30%
-Photonic Fleet buffed? rechareg reduced to 6:00 from 15:00 (as its a kinda stupid ability it should have just stayed at 15:00)
-Energy Siphon duration reduced didn´t even bother to look at the recharge time her as i was already totally ****ed.
and i think damage output was also reduced slightly.
THANK YOU dev´s for showing us this.... if it goes live i quit, i don´t want to farm for a reskill again and i can totally TRIBBLE my current build. also wtf why slow down everything that much and were sci ships really so OP? i could live with the SNB change and maybe dampening field to 2:00 but all the other nerfs are totally unneccesary. How about trying a soft approach fix to problem abilities like TSS stacking or SNB, but tatally changing everything in one patch ugh... no!
furien......photonic fleet bud....notice the science ship??
to the rest the problem really comes down to programers with a lack of understanding on how to make a game good.
IMO from my years of MMO playtime with many different games says
never nerf skills or powers / abilities, buff other things up to par so that the skill is jnot so OP.
So, instead of nerfing all DPS is foolish when buffing the ship hull, ship shields and maybe even innate resistance would be better, if anything add a passive skill for pvp that does that and only works VS player ships as to not affect PVE. We get hit every now and then by the phantom quantum torp salvo 3 and die when it crits.....guess what its rarer than people like to think but since the amount of people in this game that flat out suck at playing is so large it happens to them all the time. They do not distribute the shield power constantly (which is the #1 skill that should be spammed at all times) they do not turn for a stronger shield facing they do not EM just for the defensive buff or brace for impact....these are all clear signs of people that are "captain kirks (scrubs)"
these changes will now make those players think they are great because it will take longer to kill them in pvp because they spam RSP. wil they still die? yes they will fal to premades with 15-0 scores as they do now but the difference is that the match will be 25 minutes longer.
AS of right now if those changes go live I think I can safly speak for most of DOB in saying that we will give it a month or so and then boldly go where everyone else is going...to another game.
Are you sure that's Fleet Support and not Photonic Fleet? I thought Fleet Support spawned only one ship.
Correct...what you're seeing there is Photonic Fleet. Since it is now on a 6-minute cooldown (versus 15-minute cooldown on Holodeck) it is now being used with a higher frequency. In the over 20 minute 5v5 PvP battle testing we videoed for another post there were three Science Captains in various ships. During that battle we saw no less than nine Photonic Fleets in the battlespace during that time...and three were mine.

thanks for the normal version of the explanation Bounty. Did not know the cooldown timer was reduced that significantly, good too know, thanks for sharing.

ps" Mise, I'm using this in my signature unless you so no.
Extract from STO EULA: "S22.3 -- Cryptic will continually nerf every class, ability and ship until no combination of class, ability and ship will be able to kill any other combination of class, ability or ship. Should any combination of class, ability and ship be able to destroy any other combination of class, ability or ship, that class, ability and ship will be nerfed."
This does make me nervous. I've had the misfortune of being in a 5v5 pvp battle with all of the ships being cruisers. I'm not making this up. Twenty minutes into the battle it was 6 to 3. Since it's moderately difficult for a cruiser to do burst damage to another cruiser, everyone had plenty of time to help each other out. It was really strange in a pug, lol.
Though I like the idea of slowing down the insta-deaths going on, I really don't like the idea of every pvp battle turning into half an hour ordeals.
As a matter of personal taste, I've always felt that the really big burst damage to hulls should only be done by torpedos.
Still no respect huh, for a Fleet Marshall, ur kinda childish when someone asks a question.
And yes Photonic Fleet, but no one ever hardly uses it in PvP situations, but thanks for clarifying Akumarev
.
respect is earned not handed out, seeing 3 ships and a DSSV would for sure give away the photonic fleet skill usage, as for peopel not using in PVP....that shows how many scrub players there are then. its one of the best PVP skills a science officer has even with its current incarnation.
as for insulting me over the way I answer your question.....get real kid. It is not my fault you lack any understanding of the game mechanics but insist on spamming your opinion all over the forums.
feel free to get a premade and sign up for the tourney on the 29th. beat my team and you will EARN my respect. Until then your just another ....NM i've been reported enough for posts.:D

Taking stacked TSS's out (a single TSS 3 shouldn't be enough assuming you are running EPtS or float your power at all times ~95 or pay close enough attention to shift to 100 when necessary) a cruiser against a single escort you mentioned the abilities you may or will need to survive while not mentioning the pre-buffs and number of abilities that escort just had to prep to do that damage to you. Assuming all things are equal (and we all know how unlikely that is in real pvp) that fight between you and the escort can be easily won with an RSP + Full Imp/Ramming above or below the Escorts limited arc, once this is done an ascending/descending spiraling battle is a sure win for you as you will be bringing 3-(4 or 6) banks to bear on him at nearly all times and your defensive capabilities are far superior to his.
Essentially, in a 1v1 situation (CnH, Borg Zones) that escort needs that damage, if he doesn't kill you with it in his initial volley, he is most likely dead or dying. This is an entirely different game when comparing Escort to Escort, in this case it's preparation, order of attack, and cooldowns that dictate the winner here.
Now, do I think Quantum/Tricobalt/BO III crits are excessive, yes I do with AP:A on a target with stacked AP:B, and as you mentioned, removing the stacking of same buffs and debuffs is part of that solution. I am advocating small, specific changes to address issues of excessive damage AND survivability (RSP Chaining or Extend 3 with 125+ Shield Power) not sweeping generalized re-tooling that reeks of ignorance by the developers about the mechanics of their own game.
respect is earned not handed out, seeing 3 ships and a DSSV would for sure give away the photonic fleet skill usage, as for peopel not using in PVP....that shows how many scrub players there are then. its one of the best PVP skills a science officer has even with its current incarnation.

if respect is earned and not handed out as you say, you lead a very shallow life. You consider urself top dog while all others are meaningless n00bs, because they don't reach ur "level" in your eyes. Let me guess, from all characters in American Pie, u could relate best to Stiffler I am guessing?
And the Black Knights are a premade KDF crew, get ur facts straight please, we are just not as noisy as some other fleets out here playing the schoolyard bully because they were teased as kids themselves.
So no, I don't need nor want ur respect, since it is worthless too you, the gift in itself is as hollow as, well, u can figure that one out urself
Glad to see other members of Dob like Bounty that are capable of given a normal asnwer to a normal question, and if I played Science, I probably know it, but no.
so is that epic KDF premade crew planning on signing up for the tourney on the 29th?
I am sorry to hear you were teased as a kid int he schoolyard too. I didn't realize that the black knights as a whole was a bullied as schoolboys crew. I will stop being mean to you and you have earned my respect becasue I know given the current themes among bullied kids in America now I would hate to hear about some person from the netherlands commiting suicide because they were bullied on forums.
BTW I only play science and I still know the skills of others. Why? because I PVP and it is best to know your enemy as best as you can. Isn't that how klingons are too?
let me guess from all the characters from the twilight series you could best relate to ...Bella
gameplay is significantly slower, puts even more emphasis on team (read: if you think you have a chance against premades with the patch, think again), 90% of deaths will STILL be due to "sorry my stuff is on cooldown", And minimax will still think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
scrubs are saying that the top fleets won't be able to adapt to the new changes, but thats not the case. We most certainly will adapt to the changes - if we find gameplay entertaining. Nerfing the entertainment value is the most devestating balancing decision a company can make, and doing so was a baseball pitch then cryptic just sent it into orbit. If its not entertaining, its work. most people will not pay $15 a month to work, and most won't work for free.
Lowering the bar to increase mediocrity will not make the bottom feeders any better. It will just make them think they are. This is my impression of the current trend this game is headed towards. The cream still rises to the top thankfully.
Seriously if one is feeling insulted or hurt over some online forum talk then man take a long look in the mirror and remember this is the cold impersonal world of the internet where nothing can be taken seriously. About respect: It is earned on the field of battle and in the silence of space. Come and meet your maker FurianNL. We will be waiting.
If we decide to keep playing then we will still continue to compete, adapt and win as much as we can. I do not know exactly what will go live and how it will effect the game. However, if the same filth that is on tribble now goes live then I will indeed be a sad panda. I will go on a crusade and make sure I ramming Speed everyone to death because that will be the only way to kill anyone reliably.
The Black Knights will try to attend, although their Fleet Marshall will be getting married in Barcelona then, so any personal quirals with me will have to be before or after that date(spanning a week)
I am guessing Wrath, Rouqe, Stajgon, G'ravel, Kling and other Black Knights officers will be attending, but can't speak for their schedules. I will contact Akumarev ingame about this further since we are buds now
I will go on a crusade and make sure I ramming Speed
OMG !!! Ramming speed is OP. It should be nerfed to do only HALF the damage to my ship and 100% damage to the rammer. I mean - USS Hunley is STO canon right ??!!??
Okay - sorry WarPanda - I just had to do that.......back to normal reality now....

Actually the PvE'ers are even more butt hurt over these changes. They are saying that it now takes 3 times longer to do the STF's. PvP'ers usually adapt faster IMO. So It will really hurt them in the long run.

But should have tested with a Neg`Vhar and a Raptor and compared damage. Guess the results would have been very informative.

You can relate to either Will or Grace, but either way..
========================
I don't think I like what I saw in the vid.
gameplay is significantly slower, puts even more emphasis on team (read: if you think you have a chance against premades with the patch, think again), 90% of deaths will STILL be due to "sorry my stuff is on cooldown", And minimax will still think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
scrubs are saying that the top fleets won't be able to adapt to the new changes, but thats not the case.
I am guessing Wrath, Rouqe, Stajgon, G'ravel, Kling and other Black Knights officers will be attending, but can't speak for their schedules. I will contact Akumarev ingame about this further since we are buds now
182'nd space cowboys... damn that sounds catchy...
