I've spent a couple of hours this evening playing the demo that I obtained through Steam.
STO seems interesting so the idea of an introduction to the game was a welcome opportunity.
Having spent a couple of hours working through everything that I could do, it seems that one does a final mission that gives you another crew member, and then one cannot appear to do anything else.
I eventually found my way back to sol and then the space station and looked around for more missions but couldn't find any. Is that the end of the demo or am I missing something?
I'm in the same situation. Got a new crew member and added something to my ship but no more missions to play. I thought I missed something also... I looked around but couldn't find a thing...
I also had the feeling that it was alittle short to really judge wehter I like this game or not...
I mean, reading all the reviews and tests and playing the demo, I still don't know if there will be anything worthwihle in terms of longtime motivation.
How is the state of the game now? Are the things you see in the demo everything there is?

I gave my friend a referal key for the demo. I was very surprised that he did the tutorial and USS Azura and told me that was it. Ofc i don't have to explain that he will NOT subcribe since he found that he didn't get a good impression of the game after a tutorial and 1 mission.......
Yeah it is a bit silly how short the demo is. I don't see how anyone who didn't want to buy it before playing the demo would be convinced by a tutorial and a noddy little starter mission. I mean, I'd be wondering, "seriously? this is it? you want me to pay £10 per month for this...?"
I agree! I needed at least 1 more mission with some hard ship to ship combat to see if I really like the game.
Same here, I did the Azure mission and that was pretty much it.
I will keep the game installed in Steam for a while to see if anything changes but otherwise I'm going to have to pass on STO for the moment I feel until I have an opportunity to experience a more substantial part of the content to know whether it's for me or not in the long run.
I think they're missing a trick here because someone like myself is evaluating whether this is going to be an MMO that I'm likely to play for the next 18 months or not; it's short-sighted to think I'm going straight in without more than just a little lick at the spoon.
I think it's a Cryptic thing. I played there Champion's online demo and it was short and end a little quick. Whoever, the game is pretty damn nice. Still considering this purchase tho....
You really aren't missing anything, you do one quest and the rest all the way to level 45 are more or less the same with the odd story line chain. Flat, simple and very shallow.
why cant people get a free one week trial to see if they like the game? it almost seems to me that cryptic would entice people with a small taste and make them pay to test it more by having to sub to get more time to see if they like it or not. win win.
which gets them more cash short term, but long term spells death.
I sent my brother a "Refer A Friend" demo and the game quit after the tutorial. He won't buy it now because he really doesn't know what to expect from Cryptic. I suggest that these demo's be a tad bit longer to generate a greater interest. Especially during our present economy.

That would work indeed, instead of a tutorial (fed side only.....) and 1 mission.....
make it at least 5 days WITH the change to try out some Klingon stuff, cap the level limit to Lt 8 or so or LC1......

That problem is THAT is the way Goldsellers get their accounts usually.
On the other hand, Gold sellers dont care much about STO any more....
The demo is long enough to give a good impression. Maybe crafting, economy and PvP could be added.
Played the demo and it was a nice few hours into Star Trek and basically it stopped there for me. Tbh, I am not a huge fan of space MMORPG games. That being said, in my opinion the game is sluggish and unresponsive. Would be nice if there was more "speed" in the game.
Graphics are nice, but does not reflect realism in any way though. The huge shields around your ship are just an example of it, just awful
Game play and ease of play is good for a space genre if you like it.
Did not find anything annoying except for the unresponsiveness and the invisible walls. How come you can't fly where you want to go, never knew there was an end in space
Overall not a bad game as far as the demo is concerned. I won't buy it though, but that's mainly because it is the same old game style which I am quite bored with. Get quest, kill NPC's, get levels, get quest .... and so on. And without any exploration, good economy, crafting and other fluff, I will get bored on this game within 10 levels.
If you like Star Trek then this game can have a few hours of fun, therefore I hope the game will succeed.
So I just finished the demo. What makes me mad is when I see, 'ten day trial' I sort of assumed that meant I had, you know, a ten day trial, or at least a level capped play time (like every other MMO does). So I burn almost 2GB of my download cap and a few hours of time getting it installed, then I play the game and literally 60 minutes later it is all over. All you can do is fly around space, you can't even re-do an old mission. To top it off, the missions I got to play were sort of boring.
I just want to shoot space-ships with my space ship for a while and see if it is worth money...from what I just saw there is no way I'm shelling out 50 bucks for a retail copy plus a monthly sub.
I'll swing back around in a year when they open up a real trial.

I agree. I didnt have much of a download cap. I waited 2 months just to try out the demo. When i was about to play, i was really excited. but when i finished the SS Azura Mission, i was really mad.
There are tonnes of other MMO's that give way better demos than this. I wished they would extend it.
For Example: You should be able to explore every system in the Sirius Sector Block and have the ability to get promoted to Lt. Commander and get a Tier 1 ship.

I'm liking the demo so far...

Questions, question questions...^^
Did you do the Azura mission?

Well, the problem with the one week free demo thing is that you could possibly play the entire game in one week since it's still growing.
