Alas, Cryptic know this too.
So how do you think it'll be added? 1000 points in the c-store?
Perhaps if you get 2 "friends" to buy a lifetime sub.
New retail promotional item?
I imagine it will be simply a skin in the C-Store. I can't believe they had to actually have us vote on this ship to appear.... it should have been a no brainer.
I really would like to see it be unlocked in-game somehow. It would give me a goal to work towards. Have it appear in the C-store or a RAF reward would be extremely disappointing to me, and I probably would have to go without it then.
I am guessing a TIer 3 cruiser. However there was an episode with the U.S.S. Lakota and the Defiant fighting each other in DS9, and they seemed to be on the same footing, so maybe a Tier 4?
I have actually posted this idea before of a mission that involves rescuing an old Excelsior-class that has been missing for decades. During the mission you have to figure out what happened to the crew, get the ship operational, and maybe defend boarding parties(klingons, borg, whatever) during the process. At the end, the ship is recovered and added to your fleet roster. It could be a tougher mission, maybe requiring a group. Just an idea I had on it.
I would love something like that, not just buying a new ship in-game or the c-store or having to do a freaking STF but special missions to earn new ships, items, boffs, etc (a mission requiring a group doesn't necesarrily have to be an STF)

And a very good idea! That would be a very nice "reward" for completing the mission! See, it's cool ideas like this that are missing from the game.
As it is now, it takes a total of 3396 points to buy everything in the C-store. ( granted you mite not buy the name change. ) and that comes out $43.75. ( minus 6.25 dollars if you got 500 points from the game ) this is what we have now. which it will go up over time. what i want to know is why do they need the extra income? I want them to come out and tell us. ( I know there are costs, but isn't that what the 15 bucks is for. what I want to know is why should I support the C-store, is it the reason we are getting patches faster then normal, if not what does it support? )
In my view, they need the extra income because they simply don't expect this game to last.
Making the game have lasting appeal would be too much like hard work, so the people in charge like the ex-SOE/SWG staff that they are have decided to make as much money as possible before STO dies.

Gah that's a pessimistic view, my guess is royalties to CBS, vacations for the CEOs at Atari, or food for the interns. :D:D:D ( also the pessimistic thing was a joke )
Because the Sovereign is the ship created to replace the Galaxy maybe?
So Excelsior should be at what tier now?
The Sovereign was never meant to replace the Galaxy, the Sovereign is simply a more war oriented cruiser.
But even then Galaxys dominated in the Dominion War's front lines.
At this point canon is out the window and plummeting to the ground while Cryptic screams "UNLIIIIMITED POWER!" anyway so eh.

As I mentioned before, you see a refitted Excelsior going head to head with the U.S.S. Defiant, which with its battle cloak and legendary officers, would make it fit in at least Tier 4, and I dont think Tier 5 is that big of a stretch.

Then lets rephrase it...
Sovereign is a step up from the Galaxy.
Galaxy is a step up from the Ambassador.
Ambassador is a step up from the Excelsior.

The Soverign was NOT created to replace the Galaxy. The Galaxy is a large long term exploration ship, the Soverign is designed for combat hence why its an ASSUALT cruiser.
The reality is Cryptic would be better having a selection of ship types at Endgame rather than fixed ones like we get now.
Additionally, no, it should NOT be a C-Store item because this should be an entirely new ship class and thus not a reskin. Earning it ingame either by reaching the appropriate rank or completing an Accolade would be the method of getting it.
Heaven forbid we actually have CONTENT added to the game that everyone can get WITHOUT paying extra for it. What the hell is the subscription paying for ?

Well if it was a c-store item then the proceeds from the c-store would go to the designers of the ship and all the free stuff we get, like the new sector block, klingon episodes, diplomacy system, ect. would be what your sub is paying for.
Personally I don't really mind if it's a C-store item, I think about it like this. At my job if I earned minimum wage I'd get around 10 dollars an hour, if the excelcior has an allocade that takes me six hours of in game playing to get or 400 cryptic points it either takes me half an hour at work or six ours of my free time. I know it doesn't quite work out like that because allocades can be fun to get but 400 points in the c-store is overpriced anyway, they should make it 300 at most.
If it was something I had to unlock in game(accolades, a special mission, etc) I would have a bigger desire to do these things, since I would be working towards a goal. I understand some people might not want to do this to earn it, so maybe it could be both in game and c-store?

Which Chat corrected herself in the post above yours...
If Cryptic want money, raise the subscription. Its that goddamn simple but of course doing that would actually make people balk. Instead we will paper cut their wallets with $1 - $5 items AND their subscription.
Its only sad that the playerbase is all too willing to roll with this practice and has been indoctrinated to the point they even ****ing suggest Cryptic add MORE items to charge them for. Whats worse is the fact this is ACTUAL Star Trek stuff that should'nt NEED to be charged for.
You want a custom varient - fair enough
You want an actual ST ship design in a ST Game - what the hell ?

Those two options are not even remotely the same. Everyone has to pay the subscription to play, but you DONT have to have ANY of the C-store items to play.
You can get the Non Exclusive, but unique Excelsior class ship if you spend $200 on a lifetime subscription to Champions LOL.
They should offer this ship as mid tier ship.
Comments
As in which tier will the ship be?
I would love to be able to use it at Tier 5, but not as a C-store item.
As would I. It would be great if you could earn it in-game.
But the realist in me tells me it's going to be a c-store item. If we're lucky.

It should be a tier 5 ship, just like the galaxy class should have been, dont know why they made the galaxy a T4 ship. Doesnt make sense.

I hope they just offer it as a in game item, I hate getting nickled and dimed to death.
