A group of several players, including myself, have been trying to beat Infected every weekend for three weeks. We managed the space portion without any real trouble, but we can not defeat Rebecca. Yes, we suck, we're losers, whatever. Cryptic can design their game however they want. And for the STF content, they've clearly decided to follow the "players vs the Gamemaster" route. You know, the type of game you hear about, where the GM gets his fun from one-shotting the player characters in every fight and having every third door open onto the surface of a black hole for no apparent reason.
So, after about twelve hours of trying to beat just Rebecca, I admit it. I'm not worthy. Cryptic wins. I've deleted the mission from my journal, and I'm never going to attempt it (or any other STF) again. Unfortunately, that leaves me with... well I guess I could keep exploring B'tran, if the Exploration missions didn't seem to be mostly broken. I could try leveling up my Orion... except the exploration missions are mostly broken. I refuse to have anything to do with PVP.
I'm kind of stuck. I want to like this game. I don't *want* to quit. But I can't bring myself to run though the Federation missions again. The random exploration missions are just as absurd, but at least they're "mad libs" silly rather than just badly written. (And in my opinion, some of the story missions are really, really awful. I'm specifically looking at the Guardian of Forever and Admiral Zelle and Department 13 here.) So no, this isn't an "I quit" post. But I am beginning to wonder what else I'm supposed to do.

Wow my group has ran infected in 30 mins. It is really not hard. Really if you cannot beat infected maybe MMOs are just not for you. How much easier do you want it to get?
If you can't beat Rebecca, then you're doing it wrong. You have to realize that your tactics are flawed. You need to break LOS with her if you have the blue circle. You need to break LOS with your teammates if they have the blue circle. If it takes longer to kill her because you're running around or trying to be tactically aware, then that's how it has to work. Its not an encounter where you can huddle up together and hope for the best, because that just gets you killed.
Beyond that its hard to know what you're doing wrong. I know some people just do not use their kit or captain powers at all, when they should be used frequently, and that kind of player does not help the team. Engineers who don't use their reroute power to shields ability for example, and you can see this because they are the engineers without shields for long periods of time.
Run with some people how have done it.You are just doing it wrong, A Voice Chat program may help you as well. Many groups will not take you unless you got one.

True, but some people are uncomfortable using voice programs for various reasons, not least the profanities often strongly used on such.
That said, I agree voice chat could be usefull and that doing any STF with an experienced group could be good - so long as that group knows you are a 'newbie' (not a 'noob') and accept that you may make mistakes.
Through experience on other games, I have seen that inexperienced players are often not tolerated in established groups or even in random groups (they either get kicked fast or the 'better' players drop out to make a new group) and this can lead to a type of elitism that ends up with a stiuation whereby if you are not in an established group / guild or such, it can be very difficult to group for such instances. Hopefully STO will not go that way, but from statements seen on the forums and in game about rigorous conditions for joining an STF it seems it may have allready.

You're stating the obvious there. It's very easy to say "you're doing it wrong". It's much better to ask the OP what they are doing and offering advice.

Perhaps you might offer suggestions on how to "break LOS"? Covershields? I've seen her 1 shot them. The corners are no longer a viable place to be due to the plasma streams and respawning drones. There isn't a lot of place to run and duck for cover.
I've run this with the OP several times now and I can understand their frustration. I can also assure you that the team was "tactically aware" that they were hit with her Uber Borg debuff circle, nor was anyone "huddled together".

There are a few guides posted to the forums that say if you're hit with her debuff, you shouldn't do anything... including using kits. You're saying use the kits. Which is it?
Again, it's very simple to reply to these kinds of posts and say "you're doing it wrong" versus asking for and offering advice to actually help those who are attempting these STFs for the first time.

Uh huh... I'm sure it took you 30 minutes the very first time you ran it too.
Very nice, very helpful attitude. Please go back to WoW and stay there.

Yeah its hard to offer specific advice when there are no details offered, and sometimes the obvious needs to be stated. I mean a lot of people run infected with ease. A lot of people hate the cure, and those people have done infected first. And while I can appreciate the OP is frustrated with infected, its not impossible by any stretch, and it is the easiest STF. I've killed her in a group of just 4 tactical officers (which took many tries, admittedly, but we did it).
LOS is the only sure way to stop Rebecca's attack in my experience. The guides are wrong, and yes I have probably even posted in them saying not to shoot. But it doesn't work. After having done that mission enough, I have learned that. I have played the lame duck and still she shoots off her torpedo. Whether shooting, or healing, or doing nothing, as long as she has LOS, she fires. But every time I break LOS, well she can't shoot what she can't see.
There are plenty of ways to break LOS, from using the conduits or ramps that most people use to try and escape the plasma, to cover shields, to the pillars on her platform, and if you're careful even the corners can work. Honestly the person with the blue circle can probably go for a swim, get killed and lose the debuff, get rezzed and save the team a wipe if all else fails (not that I've tried that, but it should work if you plan for it).
Her platform is my favorite. I stay up there and wiggle around the pillars to break LOS with her or whoever has the blue circle.
But without seeing the specific situation, what could I offer? I have no idea what the team is doing wrong or where they could improve.
