I think they would have to get the rights to do this, which I think they said would be a nightmare. id also like to see music from first contact and the TV series to get added to the game...would go a long way to improving the ST feel.

the enterprise was last sent out on a mission to a far out star base that they had lost contact with.

They can get away with Enterprise already because the Sovereign is already STO approved. Plus in STO's story its been refitted so they can justify any futuristic alterations they want.

I think the tricky part is getting the Licence for Data and obviously Brent Spiner to voice him, Cryptic isn't exactly rolling in money.

Yeah I remember hearing something like that but wasnt sure if Enterprise was part of that deal. I know getting like actors/actresses to get into the game and do voice overs would be killer. Or even seeing pichard or data walken around chattin it up. I just think a little...ok a big element for the Fed side is to see the Flag Ship roaming around making its presence. Even something for the KDF as well.

    Simple answer:

When CBS allows Cryptic to put it into the game and when Cryptic is willing to pay Brent Spiner for his likeness and most likely voice to be in the game.

We've already seen the TOS Enterprise show up in the GoT Mission so it's not like there's any problem with the name. The problem might stem from other things.

The reason you saw it was because the mission was approved by CBS. Cryptic has the license to create this game, but any new missions/content need to be approved by CBS since they own the IP of Star Trek.

I'm sure there are some set guidelines that Cryptic has to follow so they don't have to ask CBS about every little thing. However seeing the new Enterprise with Data as Captain is most likely something CBS would need to approve of.

Brent Spiner is now old and fat.
    Data isn't.
Therefore, Data isn't his likeness anymore! Success!

Personaly i'm not a fan of the time line thanks to the new movie.

I know the books arn't classed as cannon but if you've gone through them then you can see the story they make up is better, as in Data died Worf becomes 1st officer on the Enterprise Picard stays in command and the borg are wiped out, well i soppose the rights they'd need to change slightly

The only affect the new movie has on this game and the timeline is that Spock and Romulus no longer exist. Spock would've died eventually so that really doesn't change any major things. I think the destruction of Romulus adds a new type of conflict to the timeline.

Other than that the new movie is a completely new timeline that was crated by Spock and Nero traveling back in time.

You are assuming that the Enterprise of this point in time is still the one that Data was in command of. The NX-01 was only around for 10, the 1701 40, the A 7, between 2293 and 2344 we get the B and the C and the D was only around for 8 years. It seems to me that with the one exception of Kirk's Enterprise and maybe the B and C, none of them have lasted more than a decade in service. It seems likely that since this is 20 some years after the destruction of Romulus that the the Enterprise in service would be the F and weather or not Data would still be a captain after 20 years is questionable since it's likely that by now he would be an admiral.

The Cryptic released source materials indicated that the E was in commission under Data's command as recently as 2408.

The only mention I see of Data and the Enterprise is a supplemental log based on 2390

But if you do have more info please link it for me I'd love to read more on it.

I agree, but music score rights are ANOTHER big royaltry and licensing nightmare - the same as paying royalty fees to use a star trek character actor's likeness/image in game. Thus probably net going to happen. :(

Guess I'll have to get a copy of it. If Data is still a captain after 20 some years the poor guy sure got shafted because Kirk was Admiral long before that and Picard got an offer for promotion on the first season of TNG and if the Enterprise, which is supposed to be the flagship of the Federation is still that 30 year old Sovereign they sure have dropped the ball because the A wasn't even in commission 10 years before they decided to decommission it and give the name to the newer version of the Excelsior.

Got the shaft? In almost every STO movie Kirk was whining because he TOOK the promotion to admiral.

Captain whats-his-name from ST: The Motion Picture about blew a gasket when Admiral Kirk kicked him down to XO and took the ship while Kirk was secretly living out his dream again.

Wrath of Khan he was all depressed cause he was behind a desk instead of in the captians chair... ect at al

Kirk HATED being an Admiral, in Generations he about orgasmed when he sat down in the captians chair of the enterprise-B.

He also told Picard to stay a captain

"Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship because while you're there, you can make a difference." Kirk -2371

So if data was captain for 20 years, I personally don't think he got the shaft at all.

he transferred his neural net / memories / everything over to B4 and eventually B4 essentially became Data

You need to get the comic book before the last movie.

    I lolled :p

Though it has been established that data *can* age, I'm not sure I'd like to see an iconic figure like him 'degrade' in such a way. It always breaks my heart to see/hear old spock. Is that weird?

Actually according to cannon that never happened. We know that Data transferred his info to B4. We know at the end of the movie B4 showed some progress to becoming Data. We never see B4 becoming Data except in that one comic book. As far as I know there was never on-screen info saying that B4 became Data, and only stuff seen on television or the movies is considered cannon.

IMO I could see B4 becoming Data, but don't expect to really see him in another movie because Brent Spinner has gotten old and wouldn't look like the Data we all know and love.

Umm, Just because the all mighty Kirk hated being an admiral doesn't mean that Data would have. If you ask me after watching all 3 season's of STO i think what Kirk missed was getting in the pants of females across the stars, not making a difference. I find it hard to believe that some one of Data's capabilities would not have been offered a promotion. Although in the last episode of TNG in the Alternate future he wasn't even in starfleet by this point in time, he was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University.

The comic "Star Trek countdown" is considered canon, it's one of the few off screen works that actually are. It's the official prequel to JJ's Star Trek. In it Data is captain of the Enterprise and Picard is an ambassador.

At some point in time we will see the Enterprise E and Captain Data. I'm guessing we'd see it in some type of STF, or series of STFs, though CBS would have to approve any such use. The issue isn't using the Enterprise E in the game, the issue is that Cryptic would need to pay Spiner for the inclusion of any likeness of Data that's based off of him used in the game- and Spiner doesn't work cheap. CBS owns Data but Spiner owns the rights to his image and voice. The whole point of seeing the Enterprise E is to see Data and whomever else we might know aboard her not just to see another Sovereign. :)

STO is also its own canon, there are more than a few things that have happened that draw on events both in Countdown and from All Good Things. Data is alive again as B-4, Picard was made Ambassador to Vulcan, Dr. Crusher now commands the USS Pasteur, Riker is now an Admiral and Worf has left the Federation. So some of the things we've seen from Qs Anti-Time Reality are still happening and being folded into STO canon.
