Thanks for the free demo...

...but, after rescuing this stranded ship called "Azurro" or something like that I can't do much more. Is this the end of the avaiable missions in the trial account? I thought it was open end, but with nothing to be done it's pretty useless. Did I miss something out there in space

I'm in the same boat (or ship, I guess). After doing that mission you just get dumped in the middle of space and you can't go to any sectors, except the Sol system (you have to figure that out by yourself though). I love everything Star Trek, but so far this game is more depressing than being late to a party and finding there is no cake left! I really don't get it. Oh well. Thanks for the demo. Saved me some money I guess.

It's a DEMO...of course you can do more in the full game. Sucks that the demo doesn't give you more content, but there's plenty of other stuff to do

None-the-less, it would be wise for Cryptic to consider teasing a little more then the Tutorial. Three to Five Days and an account cap at Lt. 10 (Literally just before they get a new ship) should be sufficient.

I can't think of a better carrot then dangling a fresh, shiny new ship in front of their little eyes and making 'em go "OooOOooOOOoo".

If they like the game enough, then hook, line and sinker. Fishing's an art form man, and Cryptic left the bait off the hook.

If you can run the Azura mission, it's ahead of Champs where the only thing you can do in the demo is the tutorial. Cryptic has to draw the line somewhere. The idea is to get a taste of the game to let people see if they might like it. It isn't to let people play for free.

Aye, but if they draw the line too early, you run the risk of lowering the number of people you draw with it.

Too long of a demo would be just as detrimental.

Industry standard is a 14-day trial. Obviously that's too much here (for now) so just a few days and a level cap of just before they reach the next rank should be good enough to judge the game on.

just past the tutorial isn't enough to whet the appetite. As an example, I didn't start to enjoy the game until I'd flown a few episodes and played around in Delta Volanis. Lock the trial accounts into the first sector block (plus Delta Volanis) and let them level up to Lt. 10, let them get a good feel for the game.

I don't spend money on MMO's that limit me to 2 or 3 hours of play because that simply isn't enough to feel out weather or not I'm going to enjoy playing said MMO or not. A person who cannot provide feedback on their experiences in the game, is a person who cannot commit to playing the game.

Thats why other games offer free trials instead of demos. I play all sorts of games, from shooters to MMOs. I have played WoW on and off for 5 years. The thought of a Star Trek MMO got me excited, but I was going to wait for a free trial.

I played through the demo and still have no idea of what this game is, how the gameplay works, what the objectives are, etc. For a 10gb download and 2gb patch (which you need before playing), this was the biggest letdown since we went to the moon and found out it wasn't made of cheese afterall.

If you let people play for 14 days, or get to a certain level, that isn't "letting them play for free", that it teasing them. This is an MMO. If they get bored after 14 days or level 10 or whatever, obviously they aren't going to be a recurring customer. The trial is supposed to get them hooked so they will buy the game and play for a long time. I don't believe the demo achieves this goal. it certainly didn't with me.

after waiting so long for a free trial, i just got done with my free demo. my opinion? i cant wait for the free trial. i have been wanting to play this game forever and the ... i dont even know what to call this, taste i just got done with left me wanting more... demo.

I feel like i can safely say that there is a huge number of players out there just like me that are looking for an escape from WOW. but after getting burned by so many other mmo's thinking they were going to fill that void i find that i am absolutely unwilling to donate more of my money to a bad product. For all i know this may be the best game anyone has ever thought of making. But with that demo, i just dont know. its not a question of cost, its a question of content. IMO Cryptic has demonstrated a severe lack of belief in the quality of their product by providing such a tiny tiny taste of what this game has to offer. Sure hope we see a 14 day trial here soon. Cant wait to see what this game is like. I for one would rather give my money to Cryptic than blizzards next expansion ( right around the corner ).

If you're too cheap to pay $10-20 for a 30 day trial the you'll have to wait 1-2 years if/when it's free to play or move on. Those are your options.

I would have to agree. $10-20 is not very much for a months play (given that most games are more expensive and would be put down after this time). If you don't enjoy the game after this, well, nothing much lost. I do agree however, that the demo should be longer to get people hooked. Try finding some trial keys out there.

This question has come up before, and for now, S.S. Azura is the last mission of the Demo. Cryptic (in person of dstahl) mentioned that the demo is considered too short and there are plans to extend it. But that will be a while off, I am afraid.

Ideally I could see them opening up the entire Sirius Sector Block and leveling up till Lt.Cmdr1. Lt.Cmdr 1 gives you a new ship, and I imagine that that is the moment where people might get an additional "motiviation" to keep playing - a new ship and nothing to do with it? Just 10-15 $ for using it? I am sure that would be a nice "advertisement" trick.

Just restrict access to stuff like the Exchange and Trade and maybe exploration and sector defenses, so gold farmers don't abuse the system by collecting stuff to sell on the Exchange (and not even having to pay a subscription).

1-2 years? LOL I'd be surprised if they make it to Christmas without going F2P.
