I voted Excellsior primarly because it was the work-horse of the Federation for a Century or more. But. . .
1. I do believe that all ships "featured" in the various series should have some representation in the game. The justification for an NX series ship can be explained by the utter collapse of the peace in the game and StarFleet found itself in the enviable position of having more trained StarFleet personnel than it had ships to put them in. So they reserrected old mothball fleets as well as museum ships.
2. Before they add more ship hulls that I'm forced to switch to because I F'd up and got promoted, I would like to be allowed to stay with a hull class and refit it with my new earned abilities. Visuallly this could be very pleasing because the fleets would truly be made of up ships of all different sizes and shapes and would be more consistent with the "reallity" of how nations field their Navies. Basically, you upgrade and refit until you can't, at which point, its off to the mothball fleet or men's shaving equipment factory.
3. I don't know what the licensing arrangment is with the ST people, but the Devs should take a look at the old StarFleet Battles board game for ship types to add to the game. In this game, the Federation is at war, thus they would be trotting out their war-time specific ships.

Thats fine. I'm sure there are others that may disagree about the Excelsior, but as long as enough people want it, Cryptic will(try to) add it. And if you dont like a ship that Cryptic adds, you dont have to use it.
Well, we do have the Enterprise-era Romulan BoP in the game as an 'updated' model of some sort or another. So, it's not impossible to think that Starfleet would dust off and modify older plans if a ship was easier to construct and could be easily updated to 24th century standards. A ship based-on the NX-class would make an effective scout ship as its small with a relatively light crew complement.

But what about this point, wouldn't it be nice to be able to stay with a particular hull type throughout much of the game? Of course, it would be the players choice to refit your old ship at each promotion rather than taking on a new ship. I've read several threads regarding people complaining about a lack of immersion or connection to their ships/crew/the game. Wouldn't this be a step in letting players connect with their avatar?
If the original Enterprise is suitable for combat in the game then the Space Shuttle would be too.
I just want the ships that are in the TV series and films to I can potter about in them and make pretend I am Jim Kirk or the slap head in TNG. When it comes to doing real work I will use one of Cryptic designs.
Might be interesting if they could get the rights to that old Starship Creator game, update it, and integrate it into the STO. Then, whenever we get promoted we could either choose one of the standard designs or design our own. Purely aesthetic, of course, with the same number of console, weapon, and BO slots as the standard ships of the same class. Just thought it would be nice to have a ship creator to compliment the character creator.

The Klingon Raptor is also an ENT era design:

Why, so it is.
