Holodeck STILL CRASHING!!!!!!

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I can't play this game for longer than 30 minutes or so. It's always the same, I hear a crackling in my speakers then I get a server not responding error. Then it's fine for five minutes, then it crashes and hoses my internet connection. This is the "stable" version, the same thing happens on Tribble. I play Aion on this machine, same drive, it RARELY crashes. I've played Guild Wars on this machine for YEARS it NEVER crashes. Alll yoooooooouuuuuzzzzzzz!!!!!

That has never happened to me before, maybe you should try reinstalling STO.

Also I suggest bringing this to the PC and Technical Issue forum.

    *cough cough*
It is considered hard canon that holodecks malfunction.

    What? It's true...

Use the STO Launcher options to force verify your game files. It sounds like corruption to me.

This^ I haven't crashed in a month now, and that is playing for hours at a time

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I have never had an issue on my comp, and this is a 3 year old dinosaur. You know, it could be your internet provider, and not your comp, too. Just a thought :)

all that means is that the client is crashing on your machine. It works well enough for many of us.

Perhaps you should be keeping your crash logs and seeing where the area causing the problem lies. You would be surprised at how simple things like a faulty memory stick or a faulty GPU don't show up until put under load or heat stress.
Nobody likes to hear it but it's usually your PC when you are the only one with a persistent problem. ( And yes, you'll tell me now of all the other games that work. It's not the issue, they may not be stressing the PC in the same manner as the STO client.

Um, looks like you client install is crashing, not the server. And FYI "Game X run fine" means nothing.

    Some questions:

    1) Where are you playing from? (In the U.S. outside the U.S.; and what's the area?)
    2) Can you post a DXDiag so that we can take a look at your hardware and driver setup?
    3) Who is your ISP?
    4) What type/make of router/modem do you use and how are you connecting to it?
    5) Are you using any of the Proxy setting in the client?
    6) Do you have any sort of Firewall or Antivirus software running as you try and play the game?

Bit of a long shot, I know, but is your video card mounted on your motherboard?

This is a fresh install of windows on a fresh download of sto so I guess it's a hardware issue.

What's a dxdiag? Cox is the isp, new cable modem via ethernet no proxy settings, no antivirus...I've used forced verify and it's worked in the past but doesn't solve the problem. Just did a clean install of windows 7. It was working fine before, I guess something on my computer could have gone bad.

If you dont have antivirus. Try Avast its free. You can use it for 60 days without registering. Then all you have to do is submit any email address and viola they send you the Key for free. Its good for 1 year and you just send for another code. I have used it for free for three+ years now. I have not lost windows since I started using it. Personally I dont mind paying for Antivirus. But Macafee Norton and all the others I tried out always either infered with other programs or crashed windows al together. Try Avast its the best Antivirus I ever had and its Free. I am consideriing the paid version to be more effective. But to date I have not needed it. Im no system build expert. I hope you can fix your problem. You might consider another gig of ram. I dont know if you need it but it might help.
Also you might go over all of the installed programs that run when you start your comuter. I know I have to disable my printer software to get my internet to work fast. The less programs you have on while you play the better. It may not be a questions of system resources if its another program interfering with STO. One last though, try running it in window mode at a lower resolution. It miaght stay stable until you can figure out why this is happening.
    Good Luck!!!
