You should contact NCsoft, and NOT by using any link in that email, just in case. But just by reading that... yeah, it's a scam. Check with NCSoft just to be certain, but anytime you get an email asking you to click on a link and verify ANYTHING, you can probably safely assume it's a scam.

But for future reference? STO isn't run by NCsoft.

And if you're paying NCsoft to play STO... lawyers are gonna be in a feeding frenzy to-night!

yep. thats fake as fake can be. in a different mmo (to let you know my experience with false accusations of illegal money purchases), i was given a fairly huge amount of gold to craft a particular armor, but the purchaser didnt show up for a good long while. my account was then suspended and i had to send in a query about why that happened. they told me i was under suspicion of RMT (real money trade) and if i wanted to clear it up to state what had happened and fax in a photo of identification for them to know that i was the actual owner of the account. after doing so they reinstated my account. provided ncsoft is as reputable they would never ever ask you for your account name and password as those two would be in their database, so more than likely they will also ask for identification through a photo id (or any other id that would let them know the account is registered to you)

The site is safe. And it IS NCsoft's official site. Just no page like that exists on the site.

    http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.ncsoft.com%2Flogin.Only&x=0&y=0

Also, why post this on the STO forums? It doesn't even mention Star Trek Online.

As it turns out, NCsoft publishes City of Heroes, which was developed by Cryptic.

did you play City of Heroes at any point?

The first sentence, and how it's constructed grammatically, is often very telling whether or not an email is fake. This sentence tries to be correct, but ultimately fails.

Who ever said high school English Composition wouldn't be useful?

I think I see what you are talking about

instead of saying "we have evidence that suggests that your account has...."

they say "we have the evidence to prove that your account has...."

its a slight variation in the wording that makes it sound scarier, but ultimately sounds unprofessional

It's actually more like, "that your account involved in the controvercial" rather than "that your account was involved in controversial". You are correct, though. That was another blatant error.

not to mention that the word "controversial" is used in a very odd context here.

As mentioned NCSoft doesn't handle STO, and it's a scam; the same question and email gets posted a lot on the City of Heroes boards. See the COH Announcement here:

    A Word Regarding Phishing Sites
    Greetings Heroes and Villains,

We would like to remind our players to be on the lookout for phishing emails and links to websites that appear to be from NCsoft (like http://ncsoftinternational.tk/ or www.secure-ncsoft-zone.com for instance) and ask for your personal and account information. All such communications should be looked at with a skeptical eye and any asking you specifically for your password and/or special question information are NOT from us (and therefore, might be a scam). We never ask our players for this information and recommend that you never give it out to anyone. We also recommend that you not reveal your email address in either your profile or signature on the boards as it makes it much easier for you to be targeted by those attempting to phish information from you.

On a related note, we would also like to remind you not to use the same usernames and passwords across multiple games (especially widely popular ones) as it makes it incredibly easier to steal accounts that way.

If you experience anything like this, please feel free to contact us at cohmoderation@ncsoft.com with the specifics so that we may look into the situation. Thank you very much for your cooperation - we appreciate your assistance regarding this matter!

    ~The City of Heroes Team~

    It's fake.
And don't even go to that website.
It's probably got a keylogger on it, at the very least.

lol, that's even meaner than the mails I get. So far I only got emails telling me that maybe my account was compromised and I should login to change my password or something. I got tons of that for my WoW account and a few for Aion. The funny thing is: I haven't played WoW for 3 years and I never ever played Aion. :D
