Since when does it cost credits to be treated for medical or ship of the line repairs in the 25th century?
Is it not enough to travel to the medic or mechanic but to burn 20,000 credits on healing and repairing, seems excessive. I was about to complete a mission on elite but my staff was injured badly and the heals depleted my account and still I need more.
Also, if the severs can keep track of the officers injuries, why can it also remember mission objectives when relogging on to a mission after a disconnect. My Officer were injured during the near completion of a Romulan mission but a long ground mission and work forced me to log off. I returned with a crippled crew and all completed mission objectives gone.
Since when does it cost credits to get ship upgrades in the 25th century? Since when does it cost credits to get new Starfleet ships in the 25th century? You can ask the question about anything. Ultimately STO is an MMO and it must have certain MMO tropes to it to make MMO players happy. A living economy is one such trope.
The reasons why you pay credits is due to a rider passed onto the Health Care Bill recently passed in Congress. Due to the expense of health care reform it was necessary to refinance the loans needed to cover those costs. Therefore, the payments for health-care were extended to the 40th century. As of now, we are still paying the interest.
This is the last vestige of the capitalist system still in use inside the federation. Although there have been discussions in the Federation council to outsource the costs to the Ferengi Banking Commission.
Don't thank Cryptic for this.. Thank thoose who wanted a Death Penalty... They brought this on you... Cryptic just gave them what they wanted...
Certain people wanted a Death Penalty that forced you to go back to starbase and pay for getting you patched up...
So thoose are the ones you need to blame.
On the bright side, if you play on normal difficulty you get tons of ship and character repair/healing drops which you can then sell for a good profit.
I have no problem paying but there are the above problems of mission objectives, injuries and logging off/on servers. I enjoy the high difficult but the meds/repair credit cost is very high.
If I have 4 officers with heavy injuries, then 10.000 credit are not enough.
Anyone have a idea on how to make quick credits ie; which type missions product the most moneys ad Commander level.
The only way to make credits in STO is to sell drops since playing gives you nothing. Outside of doing Fleet Actions and PvP there's no guarantees you'll get drops for doing something. I'd personally focus more on the Exchange and trying to pick-up Repair Kits at a price less then what it costs to go to the medic or mechanic.

Since Star Trek was made into a video game. Keep in mind also that there are no costs for repair/healing on the normal setting, so you actually impose them on yourself by changing the settings from default.
No cost for normal - take a Ferengi to inform me, lol.
I may have to go back to normal and with a crippled staff, it may seem like difficult setting.
There are many different things you can do to make it more challenging on the normal setting. You can use a lower tier ship, lower level shields/weapons for your ship or on ground.
you can also take some time and understand your ship like a captain is suppose to do. if your dieing alot then maybe you need to u pgrade your officers with better equipment. Your BO powers should make you a nice tankwhile your BO goes forward to cover your attack. Change BO powers and up get more BO. gear them up right. Heres a hint have 2 sceince officers when on mission with heal buffs. have your engineer as a commander with torrets and drones along with mines and malfunction buffs. tactical officers should have 2 or more grenades. the tacts with grenades should have tacyon weapons to drain sheilds while the science officers should have plasma or poloron weapons to affect body damage. the engineer can have anything you want as hes a tank along with yourself. if you use your enviorment and learn some tactics you can have the edge in the game. if all fails try the advance settings to ease your pain.
BTW Moneyas in cash money was not used after WW3. Credits are the norm. each starfleet person has credits and is paid credits. did none of you see any of the TNG and DS9 shows.
Tthe DP needs tweaking but is a good start. star trek online was way to easy to beat before hand. An MMO is suppose to be easy at the beginning and become harder as time goes on.
Thansk for the advice. I should respec my officers.
Repair costs are not really that steep. In any given mission you normally have enough junk drops to raise at least 20k selling them to vendors most of the time even more. ECs are very easy to come by in this game. Got a few white/green drops. Sell the green on the Exchange or vendor it all should net you enough to repair. Exchange though will be your best bet to make a lot of money. I rarely sell my stuff so I by no means maximize my EC earning potential and I have over a million credits. I earned that without even trying. I have friends who have 50 million since they play the exchange all the time. But just simple play on elite should get you enough drops to pay for you DMG unless you were unlucky but that shouldn't be like that every time.
Now as far as why do you need EC in the 25th century? Aside from the it is a game answers I look at is using Voyager for an example. During part of their journey they had depleted energy reserves because they were continuously under attack and had no means to replenish their energy where they were at. As result they had to conserve energy rations to the crew. Only a limited time on holodeck or limited replicator rations. And an economy developed on board where people used their energy rations to trade for favors or items during this time.
I see the current STO war torn time line being similar. We are at war and mining operations are often destroyed or under threat of some sort and energy usage needs to be monitor closely and rationed. So EC are used for these purposes.

But, I need the Doctor "Robert Picardo" to fix me up, and your telling me his programming is now as greedy as a Ferengi?!
But seriously, your right. You got to have some sort of money sink, and it doesnt even effect those whom play on normal. I dont see this being a issue.
