I got off of work, went to log in and saw the new patch ready. Patched it, started the game to see what new stuff there was, and it crashed.
It now crashes every time I try to load the game.
Fatal Error:Fie read from disk has bad CRC. Verifying Files in the launcher may fix this issue.
Technical Details: ./piggs/bins.hogg: Bin/Dynmoves.Bin:
Verifying the files does no good. What do I do here?
General CRC errors are hard drive related, meaning you either have bad sectors or ECC has failed(error correction control[buffer]) on the hard drive. If you can find/buy it, spinrite is a very good program at fixing bad sectors but if the buffer has failed, hate to say, you will need a new hard drive.
I can't access the game either, post patch, but I get a different error. I'm told that "%1 is not a valid Win32 application". Now, I'd done a search, both automatic and maunal, for anything called %1, and found nothing. Force verificationof all files, and still no joy. Running a virus scan now to see if that's the problem, but the last one I did got up to 98% complete with no viruses found, so not holding out much luck for a solution that way

Generally that is a problem with the systems files. If your running 2k, xp, vista, or windows 7. Try this.
2k or xp:
Start -> Run -> type: CMD -> after dos screen comes up type -> SFC /SCANNOW
That will perform a system file check to ensure operating system files are intact and not corrupted.
Windows vista or windows 7:
Click where the "Start" button normally is, at the bottom of the windows, you should see a place to type(search for files/folders) and Type CMD but dont click enter, above this youll see CMD with a Icon to the left of it, right click it and "Run as Administrator" Then opens up a dos look alike screen, where you type the same thing. SFC /SCANNOW
Well, I ran the scan, as per suggestion, and got a report back of there being some corrupt files, and the system unable to fix "some" of them. I tried to look at the log to see what files were corrupt, but it wouldn't let me, either through the command prompt, or through windows.
I thaught I'd boot up STO anyway, just on the off chance that a corrupt file relating to it was fixed, and it didn't work. Still got the same message. I plan to run the defragger next, in the vain hope that it'll do something.

Ta for the suggestion, though!
I am going to take a stab in the dark here, but I assume your running Vista. This can be several issues:
A. Memory/Cpu/mainboard is generating errors, you can test this using a free program called memtest(google).
B, You have bad sectors on the hard drive. Without a program such as spinrite its hard to test this, windows hdd check or chkdsk is unfortunately only good for system file check, not bad sector checks.(even though it checks for them, its NOT effective)
C. If your able to test both of those factors and no corruption on Either cpu/memory/mainboard/hdd, Open the side of your computer and check for blown capacitors, if you see any blown replace mainboard/computer.
**you can google my suggestions to see/get a better description.**
It is also possible this corruption could be due to non-proper shutdowns, power outages. Rarely does virus try to corrupt system files to that degree, but its also possible, just not likely. Im afraid to give out advice for viruses due to Cryptics ToS, dont want a infraction. You can PM me for that if you so desire. You can see the extent of file corruption by right-clicking on "computer" selecting manage(left click) and left click on event viewer then windows logs then system or application to see errors(sort by the time and look for when you performed the system file checker).
In a lot of cases, most people are running corporate built machines, I.E. not built buy someone like yourself, sold at stores like Bestbuy/Staples/Walmart etc..., if thats the case, you may AFTER checking hardware to ensure no issues, be left with the task of a reformat and reinstall or "system restore" The manufactors either A. Give you disks to do this, or B. Give you a seperate partition to boot off of for the restore, refer to the documentation that came with your computer.
**If you built the machine yourself, boot off the Vista disk, and when it finally loads, select repair computer, again AFTER checking the hardware and seeing no issues.
If all else fails, check locally for a computer repair store, call around, check for someone that does FREE estimates, dont pay for a estimate as this is a practice I am very much against, and dont charge myself.
I am afraid this is the extent I can goto on a forum post, I hope some of this information can help in some way. Let us know what happens.

It might help.

From what i can gather u need to delete the problem file manually and then re-patch/verify.
- Load launcher and hit options
- Go to "Force Verify"
- Let it try to find bad files
If that fails:Generally that is a problem with the systems files. If your running 2k, xp, vista, or windows 7. Try this.
