currently any average mmoer can run through the content in sto casually within two weeks.
this means most likely within two weeks of playing the game everyone will be a rear admiral with a tier 5 ship.
you'll hardly ever see lesser ships running around due to the low influx of new players.
why cryptic chose to have 5 classes of ships with 3 cosmetic variances each messed up the diversity of the ships a bit.
theres no reason to use a lesser tier ship and no advantage in anyway, unless you want to handicap yourself. might as well cut off your arm one handed and play like that if you like to challenge yourself, because the game cannot.
ships should have been delegated into frigates, cruisers, battlecruisers, battleships etc.
with smaller ships being more maneuverable and being able to avoid incoming fire better.
id rather see a rare battleship with an escort of frigates and cruisers in the game than everyone in their biggest baddest ship possible because the others are useless.
star trek canon has so many ships they could have like 15 classes of federation ships alone.
ranging from norway class to excelsior to sovereign. but they chose to dumb them down to be incrementally good over the 5 tiers, and give them 3 cosmetic variations of each.
You sir, are ridiculous. While the set up could have been improved a bit by allowing ships like the Defiant class escorts to use all of your admiral abilities, I don't think anyone should be bored with the game in two weeks. There are so many things to try, different combos of captain and ship types, different Boffs and their abilities, if all you care about is end game you're missing half the fun. I'm a casual MMO player and a big star trek fan and I love this game. I'm so tired of the jaded mmo players and over demanding fan boys ripping into a game that is still in it's infancy for the growing pains of the game. I'm sure Cryptic will change it up eventually, and what you've said here is nothing new. Just go enjoy the new content they worked hard to put out. Jesus Christ, why do I even read the forums!
A casual gamer is someone who plays around 10-15 hours a week. A TV Guide poll from last year showed the average time gamers are playing was roughly 19 hours a week - and this time was generally taken away from watching television. Assuming the 80 hours of playtime needed to get to RA5 in the Fed side (Klinks get more XP and can do it quicker) the casual gamer is looking at 5-8 weeks to get to cap, and the average gamer is looking at around 4. If you did it in 2, or less then 2, you're certainly not an average gamer. You're a power-gamer just like me.
clearly someone touched you inappropriately my post was about the ship system making the earlier tier ships useless, the ways its built.... how this translates into jaded mmo player and whatever the hell else you ranted on makes no sense to me.
what do you consider a life then? cause id say i have a life and i did it in two weeks, so clearly our definition of life is different.
I'd say his definition of life means that you spend less than 8 hours a day playing STO to get to RA 5 in two weeks... and I would agree with that definition.
I have to agree about the lack of ship options, but the only way I could see them creating new ship classes would be to create variants within the three main classes. Adding an entirely new class would require creating a new character class as well, and I don't see that happening (EDIT: To some extent variants were created within the two T5 ships for each class, but I think it could go further than just a console and an extra Ensign BOff).
Also, as cool as it would be to pilot a federation battleship, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be canon and quite a few people would dismiss it for that reason alone (assuming CBS even signed off on it).

Not sure I see how this is all that radically different from a MMO where you outlevel armor/gear?

19 hours a week = 4 weeks then. suppose one week you play a little bit more than the other, it shouldnt bump you up.
suppose i play only 1 day a week but play for 24 hours straight that one day.
i think i did it in 2, could be wrong, probably 3, but it also comes down to skill, if you keep dying and go through the ground portions slowly, your missions will take longer. because lets face it alot of people complained how difficult it was...when it really wasnt. so skill has alot to do with how far you progress in the hours you played. i might well have done it in 3 weeks, but at less play time than you.

i probably played 4 hours every other day, i remember some days not playing, but i think it was closer to 3 weeks. usually from 10p.m till 2a,m
im not sure what else in life there is to do between those hours other than sleep. so i sacrificed sleep to play, so i have no life? lol...seriously some people are just really ignorant.

And I stated that what you've said here has been brought up by countless people on these forums time and time again and that you are complaining about essentially nothing. What difference does it make what ship you have at T5? You get to play through all of your favorite ships, and then at the end you get the biggest and best. That's called a progression. If you don't understand that sometimes canon has to suffer a little for the good of the game then I don't know what to tell you.

Average means some days you play more and some you play less but when the hours are added together and divided by the number of days the "average" comes out to around 19. Someone who plays one 20-hour session a week or two 10-hour sessions is fundamentally no different then someone who plays seven 2.5 hour sessions, or any other combination.

Fixed for you.

Nah. Two weeks is simple with average gameplay. Now the people that have done it in days... they scare me.
