something I came up with at work a few days ago. it's something the the Empire only.
METHOD:
use Guardian, or slingshot effect
OBJECTIVE:
prevent/stop enemy (possibly a resurgent hurQ in a last gasp gambe on revenge) from killing Kahless, otherwise the Klingon peoplee would not become united following the death of the tyrant Molor, who would have maintained a fractured society resulting in no future Empire.
SETTING:
approx 1550 yrs in the past on Qo'nos. equivilent time period on earth would be 12-14 centuries technologically
SIDE QUESTS:
do/do not do things that would alter the future or timeline in general
END MISSION:
return via Guardian/slingshot effect or remain in past to explore/continue other side quests not related to main mission while not interfereing with the past
LOCATION:
region of Qo'nos as depicted in the ST novel Kahless
SIDEKICK: optional
there could also be a NPC to accompany the player at some point during the mission who must be kept alive as that NPC would be a direct multi-great decendant of the player character. should the NPC die, depending on difficulty setting, player character would have no future to return to, and perhaps no longer exist requiring a completely new character be created.
END

I would hope the devs give serious consideration to this proposal, as it's something that can be done, as already evidenced with a Federation mission requiring the use or the Guardian of Forever. since they had a time travel mission, I see no reason why the Klingon Empire can't do something similar as well.
