STO pvp competitive ladder

EDIT:: Testing domain is www.n4r.net

Greetings,

I am currently looking for ideas on a domain name for an STO competitive ladder. In order to boost the importance of PVP and to see who the top players are we have been developing a competitive ladder for Star Trek Online. I am reaching out to the community for ideas on what they feel would be the best domain name for this project. The database is set up, and the script is currently in testing.
About the ladder
-There will be max of seven members per team and minimum of five to compete. (allows for small fleets to compete with the majors) There are two alts allowed to sub between maps.
-If a player drops the map will continue at 4v5
-All members that participate in a match must be eligible on the roster. Eligibility is obtained by being registered to the specific team for two hours prior to a match.
-Fleets are allowed to have multiple teams, but user will be on only one teams roster at a time.
-There will be two ladders, FvF will stand alone, and the other will be Fed/Kling. In the Fed/Kling Ladder you can FvF, FvK, and KvK
-Matches are 5v5
-Matches are best out of three
-All maps will be private matches with ranker hosting the first map, it will then alternate.
--If no ranker, lower team id will create first private map. Creator will then alternate.
-Ranking team picks first map, lower team picks second, and ranker picks final map if it goes that far.
---If there is no ranker, default maps are salvage op, cracked planet, then salvage op again.
-Losing team is required to report their loss within two hours of a loss, failure to do so will result in a lock/ban from the ladder
-Victorious team must confirm victory within three days of the matches completion.
---If a challenge is made winner is required to provide screen-shots of the scores.(no exceptions)
-You may challenge the same team four hours after reporting a loss and confirming a win.
-When the site launches there will be a ladder staff application process two weeks prior to the Fall 2010 season.
All rules are subject to change at any time

Everything is nearly ready, all I need is a great domain name that the community will support and promote. Any ideas or tips please post

While I like the idea of a ranking system for PvP, doing it unofficially is......difficult and would require a significant amount of dedication. It is one of those things though that I hope that Cryptic will institute in the future at some point.

As for the name you're looking for, a few ideas:
    1. Trek-PvPers
    2. ST-PvP
    3. Alpha Quadrant Fights
    4. Cryptic-War
    5. Mortal Trek :p
    6. Trekkies vs. Trekkies
    7. All your PvP are belong to us
    8. Throwing Photons
    9. ST-Ladder

just a few thoughts, hope this helps :)

Great, It will be hard work but once it is up most of it will runitself. The site admins will handle the few challenges we get.

I like what your'e doing, and might even participate if I can, but as mentioned this is Cryptic's job. If players track it, sore losers will eternally claim that it is invalid for one reason or another.

Speaking of Cryptic needing to track PvP stats, here's a great article from Sanya Thomas, former Community Manager at a game well known for Realm vs. Realm combat. Cryptic would keep a lot of PvP players going if they'd take this to heart.

True, but look at gamebattles.com, and MLG, most pro gamers made it big from external gaming ladders.

As long as the needed people remain dedicated to this, I think it's a great idea. Hopefully Cryptic will add an official ladder at some point in the future. :)

as far as domain names go, how about captainslaughter.net? it's about as clever as I can manage on a Friday afternoon and the name is available. :D

The more I think about it, the more I like the name I suggested: Throwing Photons (I don't know, just makes me smile, lol).

    Here are some more names:
    1. Resistance is not futile
    2. Alpha Champions
    3. Admirals and Generals
    4. Shields Down!
    5. Fire at will
    6. Chuck Norris got vaporized!
    7. Trippin on a rift
    8. Incoming!
    9. Victory Toast
    10. STO Champions

    just a few thoughts :)

I for one want a ladder or rating system for pvp matches. Both ranked and unranked options.

This would give pvp a purpose other than just something to do besides leveling / STF's / alts. I love pvp but it really has no purpose other than winning individual matches that have no real bearing.

I love your idea and leadership. The unnofficial nature is problematic though as pointed out. An official source could not only implement a team ladder type system, but also a pug individual point system...or whatever official delineations are popular....Different ladders. Which is why it probably needs an official source to track.

But at the same time, what else can you do if the official channels aren't up to it? And no, they aren't aren't unfortunately.

Throwing Photons is also my favorite with Admirals and Generals being next. Although the latter is a bit ambiguous for Trek, could mean other things.

This tyoe of thing has always added interest to a game. And in this case, the glorious history of PC game fan based involvement shines.

Well, reservations aside, all I can say is go for it. Unfortunately it's probably the best we'll get on this front....for whatever reason.

    Good luck to you.
