If we take all the ships and break them down in componets ie : Hull / Nacells/ Pylons/ Bridge/ Saucer for each type of ship Tac/ Science/ Escourt. Think About what ship designs may come. Now add ship componets from ships we destroy. The RnD guys will go nuts. For instance you like the golf ball on the science ship (level 2) and the Nacells from tier 3 ship. Now tie in your choice of Bridge officers slots and consoles into your design (max in line with Admirials settings) You would be the proto type new ship for Federation or Klingon
Example: Science ship tier 5 ( USS Para-Rescue)
cost: 492,000 double the cost of normal ship purchace
4 front weapon slots
2 rear weapon slots
3 slots in each Tactical/ Engineering/ Science
Please consider the possibilities of ship and kit design at higher ranks. By doing so you will have longer subscriptions and a better in game economy. Please post to this your ideas I have left the idea wide open for improvment
I agree that ship parts shouldn't be tier specific...I can see ship parts opening up to be used and customized as we rank up and be limited to the tier you're in but I think that once you've opened up a tier of ships you should also be able to use parts from starships from the tiers you've already been promoted through.
As a player, I do not like that I am pigeonholed into the top tier ships when I reach my max rank when I may not like any of the classes in that tier.
I'll use Captain Kirk as an example. He commanded the Enterprise for many years and his officers were all promoted up in rank and became more skilled as they gained experience and rank (both Spock and Scotty were eventually Captains). Kirk didn't move up to a different class of ship...he was able to use his BO skills even though he was in a connie.
I don't see why we can't be rear admirals and have our bo's gain skills but use the designs of lower tier ships.
If we could customize using all ship parts from all of the tiers, there would be a lot of starship diversity which would be great...space suddenly wouldn't be so full of star cruisers and deep space research vessels.
Last time I check ship parts were bind to account and limited by rank. not tier Which is the way it should be, It may have change not really changed much on my ship in a long time. This is one of the few thing STO has done right.
what Beoric is refering to is also known in the Modding universe called Kitbashing, and was also used in the series (aka the Yeager Calss Starship, saucer and nacels of an Intrepid class, and the Hull and struts of a Maquie Raider). Also what he is sugesting instead of just making weapons but also have a group of people that can actual be Ship Builders, which I would love. To also use parts from diffrent command level ships, Such as the Saucer of the Soverign the hull of an Akira, the pod of an Akira, and the Nacels of the Excalibur class.
In a game that is pretty much about Star Ships, having a crafting class to do these things makes perfect sense. It doesnt mean a Science captain can make his own ship but a true crafting class that can reach admiral and control a dry dock birth is something Cryptic would be foolish to discount.

I agree. Cryptic should look to the MMO Pirates of the Burning Sea. It is a good example of complex ship construction and I would like to see something similar in STO.

ship parts, ship builders, resource gatherers.
