I'm considering retraining my captain into a new set of skills, one thing I wanted to know was what skills add benefits to Mask Energy Signiture (MES). I like the ability and would like to try it out with as much beneficial skill mods as possible.
My question is this: In the skill info boxes it lists MES to gain benefits from Ship Sensors, while in the contribution skill selection it shows bonsus' to MES from Auxilliary.
I don't have enogh skill points to both, so which is the most benefical for me. Thanks.

You should be able to access a drop down somewhere within your Skills tab of your Captain that says something to the effect of "Show Me Contributions to" or something along those lines. That tells you each skill's impact on the ability in question.
Auxillary is a power setting, I'm not expert but try Weapons to full, Auxillary power to 50 (before adjustments) and shields and engines can stay at 25 while you aren't in combat....

This is part of my delima. there is a contradicition between what you just described and the default list of skills. If you look at the contributions it Highlights a set of skills. BUT, the description of those skills does not mention MES, in another set of skills that are not highlighted by contributions to thingy, It specificaly mentions contributions to MES. so my problem is there is a contradiction between what is adding a contribution to MES.
What I need to know is which is the correct contributor. I know from using my Klingon that auxillary helps with cloak, but this isn't a cloak this is Masking Energy signiture, something that it shows under ship sensors, not auxillary. Also Auxillary is an Engineering ability Sensors is Science, the ability is on a Science BO. I'm trying to figure out which is the correct contributor, its either what shows on Contributions Skil, or the actual Skill group. They both in thier text claim to add contributions to MES, however only one can be correct. So whish is the trump card so to speak.
I could have sworn MES benefited from sensors not Aux
That's what the text in the actual skill blocks on your character skills list says, but if you do the contributes to as mentioned above, it shows that Auxillary is what gives the bonus' to MES. So i'm trying to find out so I can move on with my character.
There are skills that give you more "power" to the mask energy signature. I think those skills are mostly sensors. You can put points into those skills, and your MES will be stronger. But if you also put all power into auxillary, it will be even stronger.
Just like for example, weapon skills. If you put points into phasers, they'll do more damage. However, if you put max power to weapons, they'll be even more powerfull!
That's my explanation, although I'm not really sure if MES benefits from Aux. I tried MES on couple occasions, and I didn't really like it. Best thing is to go to earths orbit, pick MES, mouse over it. It should give you numbers, stealth points and so on. Now switch full power to Aux and see if the numbers change.
You can also see your Stealth value in your ships status window. Those numbers change depending on your current power settings.
I appreciate the help so far, and yes using full power to Auxillary dose help, I guess I need to be more specific with my question and here's the best I can do.
There is a skill in the Starship Engineering tree called Starship Auxilllary Systems Maitenance, when you highlight the skill MES in the "Contributes to" Page of your skills tree it shows that this skill adds a bonus to MES. The text for this skill in your skill tree dose not mention giving a benefit to MES in anyway.
There is a skill in the Starship Operations tree called Starship Sensor Array, the test of this skill says it will improve MES, however it does not show up in the "Contributes to" list when you highlight the skill MES.
So one of these is the proper one to give the bonus to the BO ability but my question is WHICH one is correct. Which one actually improves MES, both claim to do so, or they could both give a bonus, however if that is the case then why do they not all show up in the "Contributes to" list?
IF anyone has any clue as to which set of skills improves MES I would appreciate the help and again I appreciate all the feedback thus far.

sensor arrays, and sensors, also science operations . all 3 improve mask energy signature (as well as jam sensors )
also aux power affects how good your mask is, so adding skill points that boost aux will help too, if you don't feel like running around at 100 aux all the time....

I don't know if I should trust the skill discription text or the Contributions To text.....
Which is it!!!!!

Just keep moving the numbers around till you get what you want. Notice the window at the bottom showing you what the skills do.
