So...
now that we can buy all Purple Items at Omega that exist, what's next?
I realy just want some justification to continue with those daily PVP matches and those daily B'Tran Cluster Missions or even a real reason to do the Fleetactions and STF's again!
You can just stop reading here. long boring rant follows:
If i can just buy everything, then at some point i am maxed out and then the question is "what am i still doing here?" and "do i have any purpose left in this game?".
There is nothing in the game that has a higher purpose, like Open PVP or doing real Open Space Exploration.... i only play with random NPC's, or in random instanced PVP matches.
Nothing that i do ever has any impact on the *MMO World* (as in "Sandbox")
So the only aim in this Game realy is to get the best gear you possibly can and to respec the Skilltree perfectly to the skills you finally choose for that Char you use.
...and then?
When i look at the Memory Alpha update on Tribble, there is nothing Purple or better so why should i bother with it when i know that i will just BUY those Purples in Omega?
When i look at the Exchange, Blue Items are TRIBBLE now, Greens and whites are cheap basic TRIBBLE and you almost cant buy or sell Purples there because they are all "Bind on Pickup".
Beeing able to BUY Purples makes Memory Alpha and the Exchange pretty much USELESS.
Beeing able to BUY Purples makes Fleetactions and STF's USELESS.
Beeing able to BUY Purples makes B'Tran and PVP dailies USELESS (as soon as you have all the purple gear that you want from it, no reason to continue this boring daily stuff...).
Conclusion: making the "Very Rare" Purple gear avaible for everyone to buy borked pretty much the complete Game.
*Constructive*:
I realy would like to see that random drops are still needed to get the best gear, that Fleetactions, STF's, PVP still have a chance to give me something better... and if i dont get good drops that i at least could buy some of it for extreme high prices at the exchange, so that i have a reason to at least grind for EC and dont feel like everything i am doing is just waisting time. (i probably should not say that out loud in an MMO forum

)

Generally speaking about Singleplayer RPG's (Gothic 2, 3, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Fallout 3 etc.)
I allways feel the same somehow.... I played those Games multiple times to get the best char, to max out everything... but once i am there the GAME is OVER.
I have build the super uber duper char and nothing left to do... even in Fallout 3 which is "Open End" there is no Strong enemy left to beat (you can only so often kill the same 3 kinds of Supermutants and Enclave Soldiers), there is not even a Diablo 2-Cow Level.
This happens every time in singleplayer RPG's...
This should NEVER happen in an MMO.
Either i should have a reason to continue the *grind* for better gear, or i should have some kind of Impact on the Sandbox World so that what i do matters in any way to my Faction or my Fleet or atleast to Me.
Since there is no Sandbox in STO the only thing keeping me going is the Grind and that is what you took away with selling purple gear for daily marks.
People who complain that there is no Content are wrong, there is lot of fun Levels in the game to do,
but with the low rewards there is just no reason to go there ever again.
Why should i go back if that DS9 Fleetaction only gives out Mk VI Blue gear?
I cant even sell that TRIBBLE on the Exchange anymore because nobody wants it!
...you may say that this is a "casual" MMO Game and that you dont want a long boring grind in it, but even a casual Gamer will want a reason to continue to play once he gets to this point.
Another, smaller point is, why even care about having the best gear when you think the game is to easy?
I can go through the whole Episodic Content without ever caring to upgrade my Items and when i get better gear it only becomes even more easy -> because of PVP, everyone in PVP is maxed out so i NEED to be maxed out to compete...
Final Word:
Now we have the Purple Gear, it wont go away anymore!
With Season 2 we get 5 more Ranks as it seems.
But we still will be Rear Admirals so there is no chance to get Mk XI and XII in the game?
Cryptic, please once you bring the next Tier of Items, make sure that the Rare Items ARE Rare and the Very Rare Items ARE VERY RARE.
Don't put a Shop in the Game for those.
-> Bad basic Game Design.
Comments
I can't seem to find the vendor offering Very Rare Mk X Tactical Consoles.
do you have proof that they exist?
You told me they did when you posted:
So I was hoping you could point them out to me, since I sometimes can't find all the ships in there properly.
This game does put in more than a few updates that go unposted in the patch notes. So, I thought you found something cool?
just checked the exchange there are no Rare or Very Rare consoles at all. Not Tac not Sci not Eng.
i am pretty sure they dont exist.
seems like the max you are supposed to get is +30 XYZ damage and that is done with Common Consoles that you get everywhere.
Now the second question becomes, did they set the prices for the items to low? Let's assume the following: You are a cruiser captain (so 8 weapons) and you want full gear for your ship and yourself but not your bridge officers. We'll also assume that you're going to use one of the Memory Alpha Deflector Dishes rather than one from an exploration mission (this is not guaranteed since it's build dependent but for a lot of builds the Memory Alpha ones actually offer better itemization than the ones through marks).
Given those criteria you will need a total of 202 Marks or 41days of play (if you PvP as well this comes down to 21 days). Now to me that feels about right, if you play every night that 1.3 months of play. If you play only 4 nights a week (which a lot of people do) it'll take over 3 months to get fully kitted. To me that feels about right as a length of calendar time to fully kit yourself out. I don't want to have to spend months or years grinding millions of mods in hope that I will get a lucky drop, at that point an MMO stops being fun and becomes a job.
if there was Open PVP,
if ther were user generated Holodeck Mission,
if there was exploration that meant something to the rest of the Universe and not only to my (capped) XP count.
But there isn't...
so all i can do is random missions... "for fun" ? or "out of boredom" ?
From Diablo 2, Sacred 1 + 2 and Torchlight i am used to more diverse Items so even if you have real good gear there is allways a chance to randomly find something a little better and that is something i like. Nobody ever has the ultimate best gear.
If you can say... ok Mk XII Purple Item Nr. X is THE BEST then this is also bad Design.
STO is pretty limited in Items and their Bonuses & Abilities... i can see how this would end up in everyone wanting the same 5 Items so yeah maybe this system is better.
But the Problem persists that there is nothing worth doing after that point.
So either give me the grind back or improve the basic Game to a point where it matters what i DO.
This, in a nutshell, is the problem. Put this in, and there's a reason to play after RA5. Whole new game. Unfortunately, no amount of tweaking will fix this.
You should try reading that a second time before you quote it, friend. He didn't say that very rare consoles exist, he said all items that DO exist can be obtained simply for purchase. Thus, upgrading gear ceases to be a goal after very long because all the gear that can be gotten, can be gotten very quickly.
There are an infinite number of theoretical items that don't exist, but since they don't exist from any source, it's impossible to claim that they represent a goal to be pursued.
Not only that but PvE is so TRIBBLE. It's just a hundred romulans cluster****ed in the hallway of a horribly designed spaceship interior.
yet.
The game is two months old.
Did you play wow when it was two months old?
I rest my case.
Tactical consoles do exist. I should know. I have some equipped right now. Hence why I thought he'd found a breakthrough that I had missed.
My first 60 days in Star Wars galaxies ...
I was a commando.
I was on Naboo.
I really don't think you want to continue down this path of comparison.
The issues with mission consoles ... the fact that some professions, like Commando launched incomplete ... as in I couldn't even gain XP in the profession properly ... the fact that factions were broken, and not recording properly ... the fact that PVE was an even bigger joke than the one you claim STO is suffering from ...
No sir. You want to stop right there. Just because YOU might have been a bounty hunter using carbine cheese when not trying to cyber with dancers in the cantina, does NOT mean SWG makes a good comparison to STO.
Most people were still trying to get to max level at 2 months. 1000 quests (approx) take a lot longer to work through than 80 or so.
Playing the same amount of time that I play on STO, it took me about 4.5 months just to hit 60. STO took me 3 weeks. Keep in mind this was before the new dungeon system made leveling easysauce and also on a PvP server.
Max level was 60. It was stupidly easy to max level in WoW at launch. The larger grind was the gear grind. Which was the design.
