Greetings Captains and Generals!

We're gearing up to do our next round of Ask Cryptic and this time, for our 23rd installment, we are purposefully not limiting your questions by a topic!

Let's try to keep this discussion on-track, and stick to actual questions you have concerning Star Trek Online, and the features we're developing now and into the future. Otherwise however, the galactic barrier's the limit!

    With the level cap increase, will there be a new tier of ships, and if so, will they make the current 5th tier ships obsolete (IE: Inferior?) I think this is a valid concern after people have purcahsed variants for these with C-Points. And with the level cap increase, will there be new Mk gear? Mk XI/XII etc?

    Are you going to balance DPS between beams and cannons? Right now it is rather easy for an Escort to complete an Elite space-based mission, but take a Science vessel with Beams in there and they get torn apart.

    When will the weapon specialization talents be balanced so Tetryons etc don't cost more than Phasers now that they are all equally available?
    And on the same subject, can we have a look at changing the Tetryon proc because it is very very weak compared to all the other weapon type procs right now.

    Are you ever going to fix the space traits on Bridge Officers? why are Uncommon Saurian BO's the only BO's that have Efficient? why are there no other space traits on any BO's? Where are the Benzite BO's?

    Are you ever going to revamp the skill system after adding the arbitrary skill cap? Like splitting ground and space abilities?

    i would like to know along with alot of people and fleets, if cryptic has any intentions on putting in defendable fleet owned bases in game? we dont want to hear your thinking about it or discussing it we would like a straight answer either yes you are going to implement it asap or it is too much trouble and we can forget about it and move on to playing another game.

    second- we submit bug reports. we get computer responce. only a few time we get a dev responce. i know there is alot and you cant answer them all. that is ok. however the same bugs reported over and over by alot of people are not being fixed or addressed to the public and is becoming fustrating to at least me. is cryptic going to do something about this?

    Will we see ship crafting?
    Will see more missions to stretch out the leveling?

    I find that when I'm doing a mission, like defending a base from waves of hostiles, frequently a Bridge Officer will have something to say, even if its just a sentence or two. While I'm potentially engaged in combat, a huge screen pops up that takes over my entire combat window, often telling me that I need to continue fighting, or some other really basic information. Has there been any talk about modifying this system so it is potentially less instrusive? For example: Having the text pop-up on the side of the screen in a small area would allow me to access the information, but would in no way inhibit current gameplay.

    Because I'm a goober with a short-track mind:

    Are there any plans to release new weapon types (as in, a beam cannon? or a beam equivalent of the turret? (@_@) )

    What other sorts of mini-games is Cryptic looking at? Stratagema, tri-d chess... dare I ask it, klin zha?

    Is there an approximate percentage of content that Cryptic is looking at for release in the C-Store vs. what will be generally available to subscribers? (20% C-store, 80% general content? 50-50? sqrt(-1)-pi? More, less, something else entirely?)

    What sorts of changes or improvements is Cryptic considering implementing to make Exploration missions more enticing? You did a good job with the Aid the Planet missions, are Explo missions going to be given some additional zing?

    Are addiitonal ship types beyond the cruiser-science-escort troika being looked at or considered?

    Are there any plans for increasing the number of available ship classes at lower tiers? Will we see fourth models for heavy cruisers, tactical escorts, etc.?

    Hello, I would like to know how the game overall is doing in terms of personal views. I hear much negativity in the forum posts. However I find them often times to suffer from a chicken little effect AKA "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" This to me fails to note one major point of this game, I enjoy it and have fun playing the game. I fully plan to support and enjoy the game for a good time to come. My question is how do the powers that be for this game handle this wildly disproportionate negative flow of information?

    I would like to know, with ship interiors due out in Season 2, will it be possible to hitch a ride on your friends ship acting maybe like chief engineer or chief medical officer fixing damage and healing injuries whilst enroute to your destination? Or is this feature available only to the captain of the ship?

    Why can't the potential players who demo the game have something that will keep them playing more than 1 hour? Level 3 and just 1 mission out of the tutorial is hardly enough and turn people off who have to download for hours just to get 30 minutes to an hour of playtime.

    this is of course the biggest question around.
    Will be getting classic ships? Nebula, Ambassadors, the Excelsiors?

    And a bit more:
    Will season bring in a change of gameplay or a revamp in gameplay?
    Can we get a third voice option for the computer voice? something a bit more direct than the second computer voice is currently doing.
    Talking about voices, can we change the AWARENESS of the voice too? because when i am attacking, it should be not saying that i am under attack :P

    what? this is working as intended of course. you give people a taste of the game and then they buy it to play more. that's why it's a demo.

    with all the feedback coming from both the forums and other places,i'd like to ask
    #1, is this feedback mostly good, or mostly bad?
    and #2 how do cryptic's employees* feel about the feedback and celebrity?


    * by employees i don't mean cryptic as a company, i mean the people who work for the company, i feel that we (the gamers) often forget that cryptic is made up of people too and is not just some faceless corperation, and i want to know the opinions of some of those faces. while we have already heard some of the interviews from some of the bigger names at crytic, how about the less known people, how do they feel?

    At the end of the episodes, are you guys going to include a cinematic scene where a few of my bridge officers gather around my captain's chair, and chat about the daily lessened learned, and then we all laugh at the Vulcan because he said we were being "illogical" about something.


    Because that would be awsome.

    You work for Cryptic? NO.

    And if you did, I'd hope reading comprehension would be a job requirement so you'd be fired.

    It's not a long enough demo being less than 1 hour. Link to any other demo being less than 1 hour. Even Cryptic's other game CO isn't just less than 1 hour.

    1) How much of a priority is going to bug fixing, like the gameplay affecting Overload, Sniper Weapon, Elite Mode bugs?

    2) We going to see more loot drops on Elite mode, as promised?

    3) We going to get more money drops for mobs on Elite mode, so people won't be losing money in getting healed?

    4) There a chance we going to have the Chief Medical Officer moved to a player's ship, so we don't have to constantly run to a Hub after a bad run on Advanced and Elite modes?

    5) We going to increase the time it takes to get ADM5, or we still going to see new players getting to High-End in 10 days?

    6) We going to see more PvP balancing?

    7) We going to see more parts on a ship available like Warp Cores? High-End Efficient Engines?

    8) What is Cryptic going to do about the Market Saturation with the flood of uncommon and rare drops? Commo gear seems rare compared to their numbers.

    9) Is the Borg Hunt zone going to get revamped? So that its not favoring faster ships like Escorts. Or players there to PvP without undergoing the War Zone missions?

    10) We going to see missions on Cannonical worlds like Vulcan and Andoria?


    11) Aside whats already mentioned on the calander, what does Cryptic have instore for STO in the near future?

    I have two questions~

    1. I believe a lot of people are asking a similar questions what is cryptic planing when it comes to ship interiors? Due to i believe a recent poll on ship interiors, i wanted to know when cryptic plans on or if cryptic plans on releasing ship interiors functions.

    2. Are there plans for cryptic to release a way for players to earn C-Store points? I understand that their was a past survey that gave C-Store points. i much enjoy if their was a way to earn C-Store Points.

    • I would like to know if we are going to see voice chat. I find it hard to fight my ship and text at the same time. Voice chat seems a standard on most MMPOGs.
    • I would like to know more about specific changes to Memory Alpha/crafting. What changes are coming and how soon?
    • The level cap issues have already been raised. I can only second (or third etc.) them.
    • This may or may not be within the galactic limit and on track...but I would like to know if we will ever be able to have full pitch and roll control of our ships.

    Might we get something like a holodeck mission selector to test builds / officer assignments / ship loadouts / tactics? For instance, a click-button menu interface letting me say 'Give me five squadrons of elite Terran Empire and treat my ship like three players'. Thoughts?

    If / When will we be seeing a graphics overhaul for DirectX 10/10.1/11? This game needs some work in the graphics department and my Radeon HD 5850 is itching for some DirectX 11 goodness.

    So I bring to the table BO Trait questions...
    1. Is the Human 'Leadership' Trait ever going to help with Ship Hull repair???
    2. Will we ever see more 'Space Traits' among Bridge Officers?
    3. Are we ever going to have BO 'Trait re-spec' for those of us who have missed any new BO Traits that are implemented?
    4. Will Saurian Character generation be updated to match 'Saurian BO Traits', as Player character can't get 'Captain Efficient' or 'Reptilian Strength'??

    Would it be possible to get the DeepSpace Science Vessels turn-rate slightly increased to be on par with the recon science vessel? there's no reason why there should be such a disparity between the two when the other ship classes are all the same as their counterparts (Fleet/Advanced Escorts, Star/Assault Cruisers)

    Hrmm....well I'm pretty sure we'll see content and items, it only makes sense. What I'd like to see is the ability to use any ship skin you'd like. Keeping it within type I guess....so you'd not have an escort with a cruiser skin etc.

    Where's my ToS style bridges?? And where's the nifty sensor echo SFX when on an older bridge model???

    I'd personally like to also see the ship's weapons represented more accurately. Beam weapons coming out of the beam strips, or say it's a Constitution, then from the correctly facing weapon arc, fired from the phaser mounts (my Imperial skin has all torps shooting from the rear end btw, even the forward facing ones).

    There was also a photon dispersal in TNG that acted like a shotgun or canister round.....ten warheads were loaded into the prefire chamber, in a row, then launched. They come out looking like one warhead but then travel about half a ship length (Galaxy), and disperse into a pattern.

    And running lights. The new strobes are fantastic, the week before Cryptic broght them out I was telling a friend how I'd like to see them......ok so why is it only SOME ships that have them? :)

    And, personally, looking at the science ships. I think the ability to target individual sub-systems would be a >tactical< ship ability IMHO. WHO would be told to target weapons or enginse? That's right WORF and last I checked he's not a science BO nor is the Enterprise a science ship :D:D of course....neither is it an escort...hmm....so maybe this ability should be available for ALL classes even if in a limited fashion. With some classes being able to target ANY subsystem and some can only target others for example.

    How about some more martial arts for ground pounders? In the timeline, we can use transporters, fly thousands of times faster than the speed of light.....is the palm strike and foot sweep really all our boys are traind in???

    Orbital strike.....engineering ability......really???? "Mr Worf....patch me through to Jordi, I need some directed ship's fire down here" *rolleyes*

    Anyway, that's all I can think of atm :D Otherwise I greatly enjoy this game and even have my wife playing it.

    Just three simple questions really:

    1. Will you be making Tetryon Beam Based weapons more readily available?

    2. Will you be making Phaser Cannon based weapons more readily available?

    You can get each of these by extreme luck in a drop or by paying through the nose on the exchange. I don't get it why these two weapon typs can't be gotten as a minimum through the exploration store.

    3. Plans for the Klingons. I have read about this and would like an update concerning the specific plans you now have and when we can expect to see them implemented.

    As for myself, I would very much like to see an adjustment to the way Feds and others fight in PvE engagements, as well as how BoFF's operate. Feds stand there firing phasers but don't do anything else. My Boffs spread out in a line around me and shoot their disruptors, but do nothing else. Are you planning to fix this in the upcoming changes to the Klingon portion of the game...hopefully before you introduce a new playable faction.

    What is in the works for bringing Science and actual Exploration into STO?

    Will a science officer in a science ship be able to do things other than destroy other ships and humanoids? Will we be able to really find new worlds, species, or life forms and do more than just scan or kill them? Will we be able to use tricorders to gather information or help solve problems? Can tricorders be a part of crafting to improve their functionality?

    1.) I see lots of planets in each sector, but darn few you actually DO anything on. Last space game I played was Freelancer. Each planet had a place to get random missions, buy/sell trade goods, & repair your ship. Any chance that planets in STO get a bit more used other than just something to fly by?

    2.) Can we have a hot-key for changing BO's on our ships. Something like how there are 4 power schemes. So we can swap out BOs between battles w/o having to go to the Assignment screen and use the individual drop down menus.

    Any time line four questions?

    1.) Is the Klingon factions ever going to get real PvE storyline content that isn't basically do 3 missions in an off zone?

    2.) Are you folks going to ever fix scanning so that Klingon's can use it in space to find things like the destroy 5 "X" abandon ships against the dark space sky, or beam on to the a ship that is out in the middle of no where, or even the ever popular find anything that is a glowy or clickies on mission maps?

    3.) About 50% of the missions that I beam down to a planets surface have nothing on it as Klingon's that I can do (ex: clear out 5 parties of "X"). There is nothing I can do on those missions but beam out because they don't even show up in my mission maps with a name so I can restart it.

    4.) Borg drones on the kill 5 ground group mission that spawn inside and on top of buildings, so that they shoot and kill my party but we can't shoot back at them.
