Quesiton regarding population

I tried the Welcome back weekend thing.. I played for my first month back when the game released, but didn't subscribe (I got to Lt. Commander originally).

There were things about the game I liked... but felt the game needed more time in the oven... so to speak.

Having played again since I left for those 3 free days, I was having some fun again.. enough to at least make me consider a subscription for a month...

But I did encounter 1 concern... when I reached the Regulus sector block and tried a few deep space encounters (namely to finish my mission)... there were NO instances at all with other players... there was just 1 instance for regulus sector defense, and I was the only person in the instance.

In the Sirius sector, there were a good dozen or so and I had no trouble finding other players to fight along side (I find these types of mission sorta fun.. just random people to hang around and fight enemies alongside).

But as I moved out of Sirius sector (the starter zone basically)... it was dead.. no other players in defense missions .. let alone for story missions.

Back in the game's first month, Regulus sector was loaded with dozens of instances for defense missions.. so were the higher level sectors of space... and finding auto-teaming missions wasn't overly hard either.

Yet now I'm finding it nearly impossible to do defense missions since there's usually just 1 or 2 instances (and for some damn reason.. there's level 36 enemies mixed in with the level 8 enemies I'm fighting in regulus defence missions... what the hell is that about??? )

Does it get even worse later on? I rather enjoy the defense missions, as brief as they are... there's just something a little fun about it... but if there aren't enough players to even team with (as there wasn't on my weekend back).. then it's not really worth it for me.

You probably already know this, but I was well up to CDR before I figured it out, so I'll mention it anyhow - If you're in a DSE by yourself, click on the instance name and number above the minimap and select "Change Instance...", find one with 3 or 4 people (5 is the max on those anyhow so you'll never find a crowded one) and join it. Also I think your difficulty level setting controls which instance you find - at least in Gamma Orionus, Normal difficulty will get you a DSE with probes and a few spheres, where Advanced will get you spheres and cubes.
That said, most people are going to be in Sirius Sector, Gamma Orionus or Eta Eridani...everywhere else is mostly for leveling up, and that goes by fast enough that people don't end up spending much time in each sector.

Thanks for the reply.. but I know about changing instances.. what I mean is that when I clicked "Change Instance" ... there was only 1 instance in the whole list... (compared to 12+ in Sirius Sector).. and I was the only person in that instance.

I flew around in there for 30 mins trying to finish the instance, but couldn't since there were level 36 enemies mixed in with the level 8 enemies (why are there level 36 enemies in a zone meant for level 10's anyway? Regulus sector missions are levels 6-10 from what I gather... not level 36).

But my real question is... does it get better later on? Or does the game get emptier the higher level I get? As of now, I can't find anyone in Regulus sector really... Sirius sector seems not so bad.. but that's the starting zone.

i always struggle to team for story missions yet teaming for patrol missions is easier to find people to auto team, no idea why. for story missions its always an idea to shout out if anybody wants to do it with you before you eneter, someone is bound to say yes

make sure you have your team option set to join any difficulty, otherwise you will only join teams of your own difficulty. i think many people dont know thats there

it also depends on what time of the day your play as well. it can go from very busy to very slow

i cant say ive had too much trouble with DSE but the higher end enemies in a low zone is a bug
