Fleets and Fleet Actions - A WTH? Moment

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I've just read the latest ER, and I'm considering giving the game a second chance, although I have another day to decide.

Under investigation:

Ability to set a private instance for Fleet Actions (so Fleets can do Fleet Actions)
---

When I saw this, it was a relief because fleet actions are mostly dead. Then I thought, "WTH!" Shouldn't Cryptic have designed fleet actions to be playable by fleets in the first place?

So many people have commented about how un-fleet-friendly this game is. In fact, it's pretty hard to play STO and feel like I'm playing a multiplayer game in general. It feels like a single-player game, and I certainly don't feel like I'm part of a gaming community.

Isn't it kind of strange that Cryptic is finally starting to wonder, "Gee, guys, how can we make our fleet actions playable by fleets?"

It's like if they put this in the next ER:

Under investigation:

How to revamp our Klingon missions, so that Klingons can play them.
How to make the Captain's ready room accessible for the Captains.
How to revamp crafting to allow crafting... er... wait I guess that's also in the current ER.

Is anyone else dumbfounded by this? It makes no sense.

Better late then never comes to mind.

these were things that should of been in here but it wasn't. nothing we can do about that because it was in the past, now that they are working on it is a good thing. It's better then them not working on it.

Perhaps they need to take each pillar of the game and make it fleet friendly.
    1. Fleet based exploration, let fleets do missions and eventually raise the planet's reputation high enough for them to apply to the Federation.
    2. Fleet based PvP, let Klingon houses compete for status and glory, and Federation fleets compete for titles and medals and whatnot.
    3. Fleet based episodes, let fleets do a Special Task Force designed for 20 people.
    4. Fleet based fleet actions, like the mindless spacebar fest it is today, except fun!

Just my thoughts, why limit fleet activity to fleet actions?

This seems different though. I can understand things like the social sectors, which will hopefully one day become social sectors.

But prior to even designed a specific fleet action, the logistics of how fleets could play them should have been step one. If they spent time designing a fleet action, there should have been some thought into the fundamental game mechanics regarding how fleets could play fleet actions.

They are 'fleet actions,' after all.

Fleet actions meant large group of ship actions not guild actions, people want guild actions so they are giving them that. Not in a guild myself, don't want to be,and fleet actions are what I do if I want to 'commune'

Also it's funny how everyone cries instances are bad but ,'hey we want an instance'. 8')

I'm surprised you weren't all excited about seeing Chase on the latest Engineering Report. Not a confirmation, true, but at least they're taking it seriously.

But yes, Fleets doing Fleet actions are only sensible. But I think it was simply a case of making a connection between two unconnected usages of the word 'Fleet.' Good change regardless.

I've been on the forums quite a lot, but I've only logged into the game twice in the last month. The first time was to try out the difficulty slide and the second was to give away all my stuff.

If I give the game a second chance, I'll have to create a new character. My current ship is stranded at ds9 with no weapons or consoles. I can't go anywhere, and I have 0 ECs, lol.

If you're that cleaned out and uncertain, you might as well hold off til the Season 2's release in a few months. Then you're guaranteed lots of new stuff to check out and can probably test it on another free weekend to boot.

Contact @Eulif_Davis ingame, assuming I'm online when you come back. I can probably put together a care package for you, courtesy of my Fleet.
