Poor Audio Geometry

Well I can't stay quiet about this any longer. (no pun intended.)

For a while now the audio geometry has been deplorable, especially in space. Weapon sounds are super quiet except when zoomed allll the way in and even then you're likely to have poor sound geometry, with the weapon audio always coming from the left or the right speaker but never both speakers.

I suggest adding a feature where it set's your character as the center of the audio geometry. SWG had a setting something like "Sounds from Avatar 's Point of View" Basically what this meant is you were free to zoom all you want and the sounds would always remain a constant level unless you character moved relative to the sound.

Now on the off chance that his is some kinda hardware bug, I'm using an SB Live! External USB audio card by sound blaster with a 5.1 system. Window's sound settings are set 5.1 and my audio jacks are all in the right cords. Drivers are up to date and each individual speaker is configured to their default audio levels.

gee, if II had know it would be so quickly buried by so many threads about the demo and download rates I wouldn't of even bothered posting this.

I submitted a bug and got the same canned response I get when I submit my usual daily regiment of "no enemy's spawned" bug reports. That doesn't give me much confidence that the issue is being addressed.

I have noticed this issue as well.

In the DS9 fleet action entering rooms in zoom mode changes the sound drastically. I think this might have to do with the way the camera handles in those situations such that it moves and all sounds behind the camera are often muffled.

Even so this loss of sound could be party my sound card being set to stereo or quad settings which I change often depending on if I have headphones or using speakers and so something is stuck in the game settings.

An example of this problem is a phaser being shot behind my character, or even my ship. I don't hear the sound of that weapon even though I see it pass by my ship. I don't see the point of origin so the sound is cut off. The only sounds I hear are the ones that would be visible on screen if you could actually see the origin of the sound.

If I spin the camera away from a fire fight and back or move the camera a lot this becomes very noticable.

(Disregard - nevermind I believe I found the issue in my speaker setup)
