Before I start I have been playing PvP matchs as the Federation since I first hit RA 5 on my cruiser. I also play a Tact/Esc & Sci/Science Ship which are also RA 5 in pvp so I think I have alot of credibility to speak out about the problems at hand. So here we go.
My main problem right now is escorts and klingons based escorts.
Lets get real here, I think the damage is a little too much right now because of "mechanics" to most of the abilities in the game. My escort blows up ships left and right in a matter of seconds before people can react. Exactly why is that fun? Wasn't this game designed to be slow paced to an extent? I find absolutely no joy killing a target with overpowered abilties in a few seconds making me feel actually bad for the target because I want to have a good fight. Abilities like Beam Overload, APA, APB, APO, TSS ( whatever type ) and etc need to be toned down a bit.
I think alot of the escort abilites in mechanics need to be toned down especially target subsytem shield 3. And that goes for ALL of them. They should NOT be stackable by any means what-so-ever. I'm tierd of seeing a fleet of players load of 2,3,4 or sometimes 5 different version of stack Target Subsystems of any kind on one target. I think the time to fix this is long overdue. It's getting really out of hand and it will only cause more undue stress to both side and there resulting in longer waiting times, less participation and overall quality of the basic core concept of what pvp should be really like in a game.
Sure you can use EPS to counter it ( if that's what you want to call it ) which is suppose to repair but does VERY little let alone engineering team. A battery ya 3-4 boost but by the time you hit that battery the average player will be dead or dying. Most people cannot react that fast to such a ridiculous circumstance and as I said before it's getting out of hand.
As I concerned player I like pvp on both sides to be balanced but right now my faith on the issues not just for escorts but ALL problems seems to be right now hanging in the balance of trying to do the best with what I got or coming back in 6 months to see " IF" anything has changed. So far I have very little hope.
Hopefully Cryptic will respond to this post but I doubt it as to be expected in customer satisfaction.
Thank you for allowing me to voice my concerns about this issue and lets hope it gets fixed soon. I will not be responding to replys because this is just an informative post but feel free to discuss everyone.
Since this is the 12th post about Beam target subsystem I will make it simple and quick for you.
Yes, they need to made unstackable and the bug needs to be fixed so their no longer exploitable.
No, this is not the biggest problem/ highest concern with the game atm.
At least BTsubsystem abilities can be used by any captain type. SNB is 10000x more powerful, and overpowered and only sci captains can use it. As the actual population changes here soon, there will be ZERO tac/escorts and only sci/escorts. SNB is now the only buff strip in a buff based game and has no counter, Beam :target sub whilst overpowered in it's own way, DOES have a counter.
Chaining - stacking of any ability needs to be reviewed and corrected.
I just hate the way Science/cruisers can chain-stack so many self-buffs to enable a near- invulnerable defense and yet the Escort is the villian in PvP. If dammage is to be lowered for escorts, then the defenses of the other ship types should be lowered respectively, or its just a baseless change that solves nothing.
Nobody complains about Engineer/Cruiser because they don't recognize the threat? If E/C's started dominating in PvP and hurting peoples feeelings, they would cry nerf to them very quickly. Or so I can imagine.

the threat of an E/C combo is that they can mitigate the threat of another player. People don't realize this.

Behind the escort captain going "I never died, I rock!" was an exhausted cruiser captain going "By Sulu's Beard, don't make me heal you like that again!".
It all depends on the attack. escorts of course has the highest DPS. neft that and what do they have.
If they neft it they have to increase defense by a lot. I can take a punch but not for long. we all have our waekness.
I agree in a group they are dangers. But it is hard to take down a cruiser a lone if they know what they are doing.
All ships can go down quickly when under focus fire. escort are the first to go and are the first targeted.
Each ship as a role and i believe that it is right. No escort is taking down a cruiser one on one in 2 second unless you do not know how to use your BO'S or you are to slow to react.
An escort is more likely to take out another escort in 2 seconds then any other ship.
if any thing needs to change it is the stack of BO's and Shields. Or we need more BO's for counter measures.
As a escort captain there are many Bo's I hate when used against me but it is the worst against a Premade Team or a team was vent. Because they will stack Team BO's.
the ship I hate the most to go against (one on one) is the science ship because of those powers. tuff.
But in PvP, it is all about your team mates and that effects the match more than anything.
But I agree that there are problem and they need some work.
Behind the escort captain going "I never died, I rock!" was an exhausted cruiser captain going "By Sulu's Beard, don't make me heal you like that again!".

Ya, as soon as my Rotate Shield Freq. starts healing for 20k over 30 seconds, or MW gets a 90 second cooldown (and they fix the crew system), or Nadion Inv. stops being a colossal piece of ****, then people can complain. Until then, engineer skills will be complete TRIBBLE in space.
Let's get one thing straight. Engineering was never a problem. The only real draw is being able to train ET3 and ES3 for me, otherwise, I'd drop it for my science or tac characters in a heartbeat.
The real problem is cruiser pilots making the rest of us look bad, stacking 4 RSPs and a single ET1, and acting like they can tank. Most are so terribad they forget to equalize their shields, or get hit by a single TSS and it drops a facing, and they cry that "someone shot thru their RSP."
Occasionally you encounter someone really good, and still stacks 3 RSPs, and then it becomes slightly unbalanced in their favor if you meet em 1v1. Fortunately, I can count the number I've run into someone like that on 1 hand.
You can't really overstack engineering abilities to kill someone. That's why no one complains. You can't stack a couple sci abilities on someone and them subnuc em to ruin their day (and stacked buffs). You can't stack a couple attack patterns with rapid fire and HYT3 and vaporize someone in 2 seconds, and then do it again 15 seconds later. Engineering has almost no offense to speak of, and nothing to even annoy someone with, barring Aceton Field, or a real lucky boarding party.
Engineers are drowning in total TRIBBLE for skills and BO powers. No wonder some rely so much on RSP in cruisers.
Behind the escort captain going "I never died, I rock!" was an exhausted cruiser captain going "By Sulu's Beard, don't make me heal you like that again!".
Engineering has three good skills worth investment in; extend shields, engineering team, reverse shield polarity.
the rest is TRIBBLE, especially when compared to tactical and science skills.
I believe you're wrong, faithborn. Aceton Field is so full of awesome I want to have its babies. I mean, imagine for a moment you've got a BoP on you. All you have to do is wait the 45 or so minutes required to turn the cruiser so your front is facing the BoP and BAM! you take out like, 30% of his offensive power. It's super cool.
And Eject Warp Plasma is epic win. You fire it off and you can trap a BoP directly behind you, which, I can assure you, from talking to hundreds of Klingons, is not where he wants to be...ESPECIALLY against a cruiser.
And Boarding Party. This is the most coolest ranged CC skill EVAR! It's especially effective if you trigger it from max range.
This post brought to you by the Pax_Aeterna Industries Department of Sarcasm.
On the other hand, there are times, when cruiser captains yell on the intrepid escorts, which is trying to survive alone with its speed so the heals are used on someone else
Just admit it, you like healing, and even if you sweat alot, you still like it.
I've probably had way too much vodka tonight but it is my drink of choice. That being said if you want to nerf escort damage than go ahead but you better boost the hell out of our defensive capabilities. Right now all I have going for me is good burst damage and that is it. If I can't destroy my enemy very quickly then I'm going to either die or break off the engagement and try to run. I have TRIBBLE shields, TRIBBLE hull, I'm marginally faster even though I put a lot of energy into engines, I Fly a Raptor so I can't battle cloak, I actually fly the worse pos ship in the game as far as escort/BoP's go. In my opinion my burst damage is pretty damn good but against someone who knows what they are doing it still is not enough.
Maybe If I ran TSS3 it would help but I won't based off personal feelings toward it. I felt the same way about BTSX as I did to the old FBP for instance. It was a crappy game mechanic in my opinion and I'm not going to use it. There were plenty of TRIBBLE Klingons that depended on FBP3 like a fricking crutch and I've seen these same players post patch look worthless now. I understand you want to slow our damage down but you might as well start redesigning the entire game because the list of issues is a mile long once you start down that slope.
You guys who make fun of Faithborn go ahead but he does know how to support his team. DOB....in particular Khreed , we started off hating each other but I learned to actually respect them. I definitely do not agree with them on the current BTSX take but that doesn't mean I think less of their teamwork or capabilities. Some of you other Feds and Klingons talk a lot of TRIBBLE but some of my experiences have left me wondering about you too. Truth be told, I'm not sure If I could come up with 10 good Klingons that I actually know who are worth a damn. A good number of you are carried by a select few 9 out of 10 times.
I have wandered off topic but like I said, It was a night of 3 Olives Vodka and it happens. I guess in short all I
would say is that if you suck TRIBBLE in your Cruiser maybe you need to accept that fact or talk to some of the pilots who don't. I have never popped Faithborn, unless maybe he has everything on CD, while I regularly kill 4 or 5 Feds by myself in the initial attack on a Cracked Planet. Why is that? Well my guess Is because those players are inexperienced or slow to react....that's a nice way of me calling them ******. So you decide what category you fall under than let me know so I can refine my target priority checklist.
And if I offended anyone you can go **** yourself....There only is a handful of Klingons left in T5 anyways.

Ur right Blackjack, Faithborn does have a good attitude when it comes to healing/teamwork. Klingons are a warrior faction, thus the majority of Klingons go Tactical or try to achieve really high dps figures with other classes. So even if they are engineers of Sci captains, they will mostly fit their ships and skills with offensive qualities in mind. This is totally understandable for lone-wolf PvPing.
What I don't agree with, is that players can't be taught to fit to certain roles if part of a premade. If not part of a premade, healing can be a very ungrateful gesture too most.
U urself are a very heavy DPS dealer, together with Wrath and Rouqe, u score generally highest in most PvP matches on KDF side.
I've seen Devorous do miracles hookep up with his 182nd fleet, but I've slaughtered him when he was in a PuG. Still I know, he has good skills. they just don't "sparkle" in Pug PvP due to so many variables.
Deciding how u want to play any PvP match relates directly too their chosen gear/skillset, although I am pleasently suprised about the willingness to sacrifice some personally dps glory on the battlefield to support ur crew with new recruits on our side.

Easy now.
Your reply proves the point I was trying to make. No one complains about how deadly a cruiser is, only about how they over-protect themselves and become imppossible to kill.
If cruisers were in PvP killing players left and right, then they would be on the chopping block and recieve a nerf. Escorts are seen the same way. If they didn't have to ability to do massive dammage bursts, no one would care about them or complain that they are too over-powered. Only because they do, do they recieve the smelly end of the TRIBBLE-stick.
Cruisers are on one end of the spectrum for thier defensive stacking and Escorts are on the other for their offensive stacking, but only the escort is villiafied because of its capabilites.
Hence, STO is too ability oriented in combat, and I believe changes need to be made that move away from that aspect. If we can get away from the buff based game mechanics then its time to reinvent some abilities that make more sense, imo.
the threat of an E/C combo is that they can mitigate the threat of another player. People don't realize this.
The good ones know all to well.
My point was more towards the buff/debuff orientation of combat as it is now and how I think emphasize needs to be taken off the abilities and put more on player skill, equipment, etc.
The BO/Cap abilities should enhance combat, not be required for it to be possible.
Behind the escort captain going "I never died, I rock!" was an exhausted cruiser captain going "By Sulu's Beard, don't make me heal you like that again!".
This is not a part of the discussion above, but more for the OP:
Escorts and Raptors are suppose to be the DPS guys and need burst damage. The downside is that they need to count on their team mates bc of their weak shields and hull. That is MMO 101, you got healers, tanks, DPS guys. Now STO has made this mix a bit more...erm....interesting since you can mix it, like a Tact Cptain in a Sci ship. Anyway... some tips for you when you enter a PvP match:
1. Don't go in full impuls blazing cannons/beams, it is stupid.
2. pick your target ! pick a weak ship, hence, an escort or raptor (DPS kills DPS)
3. Don't go head on with a Sci vessel unless you like SNB and VM and seeing a respawn button
4. LOOK AROUND YOUR SHIP ! see what is happening
5 Evasive manouvers+Eng team+Sci team+RPS = survival
6. If 5 ships are ganking you, enjoy the show and save your skills AFTER the respawn button.
7. Team up, communicatie and take care of each other. If i fly with my fleet mate and he uses his carrier, i stick around with him, he is the bait AND my prime healer and he relies on my DPS, we call it team work.
8 Switch power setting is a lifesaver also (just don't forget to set them back to weapon again  )
Well, some stupid tips from an old dude with korsakov who flies a Raptor
Don't get to angry, took me a long time to know what i can and use my ship to my advantages, Ace captains are trained, not born, just remember that
yet the Escort is the villian in PvP. If dammage is to be lowered for escorts, then the defenses of the other ship types should be lowered respectively, or its just a baseless change that solves nothing.
like what they did with science  - lower shield and hull strength, nerf mes, nerf consoles, nerf VM, FBP, SNB., move turning to engine - " So tell me exactly what adjustment was made to Tactical or had done? Inquiring mind want to know

LOL
1. FBP was not nerfed it was buffed. It affects cannons and can achieve higher than previous damage. (if you know how)
2. moving turn rate to engine, that is where it belongs in the first place, not a nerf, it is a fix. Escorts are supposed to have best turn rate not sci
3. You have the HIGHEST shield strength out of all the ships and by a considerable gap.
4. Consoles were nerfed, yet they were grandfathered so if you don't have any, its your fault.
5. SNB? nerfed? ahahahahahhh... It is now the only buff strip in a BUFF BASED GAME. and it still has NO COUNTER.
So really science only player, I pity thee your class is so weak and useless, no wonder why 60% of the player pop and GROWING is sci captains.

1. FBP has been nerfed period. It sucks and a useless skill, more or less like MES. Though it does effect cannons it still doesnt deal enough dmg back to act as a efficent deterent.
2. Cant argue with you there.
3. Nor here.
4. SNB is countered with ST.

I wonder why that is
because 90% of the population plays engineer/cruiser properly. Instead they tank it up and bring no support skills.
Well I know you are not talking about me. I carry 2 hazard systems, 2 ET3's and extend shields 3...and a ST2 for good measure.
Last match I did 650k damage and 600k healing, when the top DPS was 750k as an escort.
I contrubute. But I am not OP. ES3 Pretty much paints a target on my butt

2. pick your target ! pick a weak ship, hence, an escort or raptor (DPS kills DPS)
Don't get to angry, took me a long time to know what i can and use my ship to my advantages, Ace captains are trained, not born, just remember that
like what they did with science  - lower shield and hull strength, nerf mes, nerf consoles, nerf VM, FBP, SNB., move turning to engine - " So tell me exactly what adjustment was made to Tactical or had done?
3. Nor here.
4. SNB is countered with ST.
misspelled ur name, apologies for that
