Hi there,
Just thought I would give my 2pence worth of what I think of the comeback weekend.
I unsusbscibed after my 30 days laps in March but every day I read the forums and see what updates.
I decided on Saturday morning to give the game another chance and staying in my Defiant class as an RA1 I have to say I still love the thrill of fighting, full cannons going flat out and I like the auto fire now.
However after an hour of playing and doing some missions I sighed again and left not to resubscribe.
TBH even though I have knocked the game and would not recommend it to any of my friends I can still understand why some people still play especially if you liked SFC3 (like I did).
However as a hardcore 40+ a week player on most MMos, STO is not for me and this is because I don't like heavily Instanced games. Some of the missions I did were open and even though I tried to engage with the other people, it was not reciprocated and this was the main problem I felt from the first time I played. It felt lonely

and I don't think you should have to join a fleet to feel like your in an MMO. This is the main reason why I don't think it will ever be for me.
Finally one thing I have been dying to say on the forums for months is I read all the negative threads from some of the big hitters and I agree with a majority of what they say either constructive or none constructive but I also agree with some of the people who defend the game to the hilt. What I don't understand is why the people who love the game so much, spend a large amount of time on the forums? When I am playing an MMo especially a new one, I rarely visit forums as my time is spent playing. Could it be the game is not as gripping as they are claiming

Okay sorry I was just joshing you defenders. Good for you.
Anyway I don't know what I want from STO and don't think I will return after season 2 as I think the instancing is the problem for me. Pity as I want STO to be a long term thing for me, my next big fix but it looks like I will have to wait for Kotor. Now before people say this will also be heavily instanced, the fact is we don't know how much so it's a wait and see. Also Defiant Vs Purple Lightsaber well sorry but Sam wins all the time.
GL to all.

Also, I am a forum addict. Doesn't matter what forum, if I find one on a topic I like, I have to go there.
It's unlikely Kotor will be the kind of fix for a 40+ per week hardcore gamer.
There really is only one or two MMOs that fill that need. If you're not playing those MMOs and searching the likes of Cryptic games for some sort of fix ... I have to wonder what happened to you in those 40+ per week MMOs that were designed for your playstyle.
Aye it possible that Kotor will be like this but we still don't know.
I work 9-5 mon-fri and have 2 kids and a wife to feed but I go to bed very late and play a lot on weekends when the kids are in bed or bits during the day so I am not a layabout scab. That said only UO, EQ, SWG and WoW have held my attention for hardcore gaming. Since I quit wow 6 months ago (have gone back now though
I like to try all MMOs out to find my next crack and STO was defo going to be it however it's not and that depressses me. Aion - Poor - LOTR- Didn't like it that I couldn't have a black elf
Gonna try Age of Conan when I can be bothered.
Ahh well who know in a years time this could be a totally different game and I may come back. I still keep both eyes open on forums.
Laters.
Not a bad time to try it. New expansion comes out this week. I left that game in disgust back at launch but its actually quite good now and is on an upswing.
Which does prove that it is possible for games to survive a poor launch and improve substantially.
