Batteries the bane of the loot drop.

Why are batteries still being dropped from very tough encounters such as battleships or mobs higher level ?

I ramped up the difficulty to get away from pointless battery drops and still thye drop thick and fast, although they do come in handy now and again cant you just buy them from an npc vendor on the starter zones now.

I would prefer it if Cryptic nixed the battery drops and put them on vendors instead.

A while back, a developer posted the adjustments made to the drop rates based on difficulty level. As I understood from its comments, a battery drop is not "competing" with other items drop. Basically, every rarity/color of item can drop with a certain percentage - so you could theoretically have a drop of a battery, a white item, a green item, a blue item and a purple item. The chance of that happening is basically non-existing, though.

So, you'll find just as many batteries as before on higher difficulties (if not more, but I think the drop rate is not affected by difficulty), and more other stuff.

The only part where I would prefer battery/hypo/charge drops really gone would be participation-based rewards for PvP or Fleet Actions. I'd rather get nothing than a battery that reminds me of my general ineptitude. ;)

I tried finding that post you mentioned, but I couldn't find it specifically.
However, I also remember reading about how a battery drop will not take another item drop.
It said something like, if you were supposed to get an item, you will get that item, and possibly a battery in the same drop.

I read the same post. I also have noticed sometimes when a item drops the batter drops as well. So I think it is working as intended.

Nothing at all > a battery.

Stick 'em on a vendor so I can buy a stack of 20 to last my entire STO career.

Same goes for hypos, et al. Make 'em one size only and sell 'em on a vendor. Three sizes of each at every single level of the game wastes too many slots.

So far, though, I DO like the repair component drops. I hate paying for repairs,

I use my batteries, and I'm glad they stack to 20 now, let em keep dropping. I DO hate the 3 sizes of hypo, shield and weapon boost though and wish that was just one size.

they could make battery only loot drops look different, so you wont bother picking it up or flying back to get it n get yer hopes up flying there. just a quick thought ?

I was wondering when this would pop up as a thread. :p The batteries are the bane of loot drops, but they do sell. Loot drops in this game are most likely like in others, a percentage rate for the gear and accessories. The loot is decided by the program at the time of the MOB spawn. There has to be a cheap drop, it might as well batteries. They're not gonna set it up to spew blue hyper impulse engines at you now are they? They can keep the hypos and shield charges coming, my ground skills are pathetic, and with difficulty ramped up, I need all I can get to stay alive, so I can keep reviving my away team

I like batteries... always run out of them and too lazy to fly back to DS9 to stock up. The drop is indeed seperate from "loot drop". Three types of drop, battery drop, loot drop or battery and loot drop.

Don't worry.... it don't affect your loot luck or chance of getting a certain loot. It's not a bane since it affect nothing, err maybe your ego perhaps.

I've had drops on both, battery and item, but more often than not, it's a battery after destroying a battleship or a cube:mad:

I use lots of batteries in PvP, so I never have enough. It is dissapointing to get one after blowing up a cube, however.

i played yesterday for three hours at Advanced and only got one non-battery drop. I have noticed the number of Shield Battery drops has diminished though. Is this the way the developers are forcing you to tank so that you have to purchase repair components? Just curious why i am swimming in Aux and Enginer batteries but my backlog of Shield Batteries is almost down to zero.

whoa..they stack to 20? I knew they stacked more than that while in Inventory, but do they also stack more than 5 on a ship?

They stack to 20 there too. Was a great change. I don't throw them out now as a result.

Battery drops wouldn't be so bad if we could use them in crafting armor for our ships. Hey, if they can survive a Borg Cube explosion, then my Escort would be awesome if I could armor it with whatever batteries are made of :p

Do you equip your away team with hypos, food and shield charges?

I would gess that your Shield Battery supply is so low because you use them the most.

Hehe yep, its pretty much all I ever seem to loot from them.
You would think a vessel that big there might be more than 1 battery to salvage, hell a 6 pack atleast :)

the loot drops DO look different depending on whats in it. A drop with green or higher will look different than a drop with just a battery, it's harder to notice in space since the things are further from you but it's easy to see the difference on the ground.

the thing is i apretiate that they are on a similar percentage chance to drop than other mobs but all they have to do is either decrease that they drop from higher end mobs such as cubes / battleships / mobs higher than you.

Or remove them from the loot table all together for those mobs, i suspect that every mob inthe game is effectivly on the same loot table with the elites such as STF end bosses having a guarentee drop along with some random rubbish.

batteries may come in handy in pvp but i really dislike it when you spend 15 mins dropping an enemy (or 10) only to see a battery for your troubles.

and it frees up a lotta inventory room. times I had so many that in order to keep what I needed, I had to toss out other things, ie: tribbles, to make room for drops

Although I did see a weapons battery on the exxhange for almost a million EC, I'm sick of getting batteries. (Aux batteries are the only ones I ever get). I'm also tired of all the mk ix jumk (dibirium hull platings rare etc). The only ones I like getting are the mk X antiproton mag regs uncommon or mk x biofunction monitors etc things like that. I've gotten maybe one or two mk x rares, and I play on elite only.........the loot drops kinda suck.
