I think the developers should take a lesson from GTA: 4. In STO you can run around anywhere in the known galaxy and explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and vaporize them. It feels more like Star Wars than Star Trek in the fact that it is so combat oriented. This game could be so much more immersive and have the potential to dethrone WOW, but I don't believe that it has been living up to its full potential. I think back to GTA: 4, a totally immersive world that you can run around in and do almost anything. I would like to have a more GTA: 4 type experience, not so much in the gratuitious violence that was present in those games, but because of the immersive environment in which you played. There are the paths you can take, the minigames, the relationships that you can develop with NPCs, etc. Why should I have to join Starfleet, or the Klingon Empire for that matter? Why can't I be a pirate, or civilian trader? Why wasn't the Romulans introduced from the very start of the game? It feels like it has been rushed to me. I'm not ready to cancel my subscription yet, but I am paying for it and I think that I should be able to put my two sense into something that I enjoy playing. There are so many things that you should be able to do in STO besides missions. Things that so many fans, myself included, were really looking foward to doing once this game came out. Things like the chess games, poker with the bridge officers, goofing off in ten forward, roaming the hallways of my very own starship, visiting the holodeck to hone my combat skills, or play a game of velocity with an NPC or a human player, engage in a holonovel with myself or friends. Give me a reason to visit Quarks, or the resort at Risa, or the Vulcan Science Academy. Let me explore those locales that I've only seen on TV or the movies. Let me explore an entire solar system, or at least the 9 planets of the Sol System, I want to walk around Paris and see the Federation Capitol. I want to visit Starfleet Academy. I want to go New Orleans and eat at Sisko's. I want to go to Captain Kirk's home town in Iowa, or Captain Picard's vinyard in France. I know that I'm asking a lot, and it will take some time. I also understand that there are things that the folks at Cryptic are fully aware of and are working to correct, but the community can only wait so long. I am eager to see improvements made to the game, and I would really like to see more ground covered in the quest to make this game the vibrant Star Trek experience that it has the potential to be before I deploy to Iraq in September.
