I'm currently downloading the torrent of STO so i can play the demo, Why does it take so long to download? I'm using bitlord and it says the estimated time for it to finish is 17 hours? What's up with that?

17 hours??? I'm jealous. BitTorrent is giving me 5+ days.
I can't answer your question given I'm not a tech person, but this is the problem for alot of ppl (if you look at the other thread about this, 'Demo Client'..sadly, torrent seems to be the fastest option) so clearly this is just the way they're giving it to us at the moment. thanks cryptic. makes me want to buy the game even more/not

This download and CO AND the patching servers are awfully slow...its absolutley ridicoulus, I downloaded Monster Hunter Frontier from a Japan server with 4 mb/s and I have a 20 mb/s connection...seems that Cryptic's servers are from 2001 or something.

I work for an local phone company in my area that provides internet so as an internet help desk technician who has an associate degree in computer networking there are only two possible reasons that I can think of right now as to the reason why the demo download is so slow using the download client. The first reason is there is a bottle neck in their bandwidth that they are receiving. That can happen if there are too many connections coming into the server. the second one is that there server is way under spec to be used as a game or download server. If you get too many applications running at the same time it can slow the system down. Both are very likely reasons as to why the download is really slow. Also if anyone has a link to where I can download the torrent let me know because I have had the download client running for three days and its only 56% complete:mad::mad::mad:

For those of you torrenting the installer, you may consider limiting your upload speed if you haven't already. Depending on your connection, it may significantly speed up your download.

The "downloader" is nothing but a small UI on top of libtorrent with the torrent file itself embedded in the executable (and it runs setup.exe when it finishes). There are no servers per se, I doubt those are what are making it slow :-) That said, many ISPs do filter or slow torrent traffic and our downloader isn't setup for protocol encryption or any of those fancier features. People seeing these issues might benefit from using a "real" client.

I'm getting the same problem as Meridian. It took 15 hours to download and then i get this acount error TRIBBLE. Not a good way to market your product. And the trouble ticket i put in mustve been answered by an incompitent fool because he told me to do what I already did. This is obviously a Cryptic side problem and they need to fix it now. Wasting 15 hours of my time for nothing. BS

Guys, I downloaded, took nearly 2 days, are you sure you downloaded the trial/demo version as mine worked straight away, after a few patches. I don't think you can download the full game with a demo account. To be sure, if you downloaded the demo version, it should say enter your cryptic account details, if it didn't, try reregistering on the site again, maybe something that simple.

to activate the demo you need to activate a demo account. Try this link:

What the nice horsey said :-) That URL should have been opened during the install process, but it doesn't hurt to do it again.

Indeed this URL did open for me after I finished the install process but I found that using Google Chrome makes the link not work. I got extremely frustrated for awhile. Ended up clicking that link shared in the above post in IE and bam! Worked like a charm.

    Thanks so much guys.

Hmm, what happens when you open it in Chrome? I'll ask the web ninjas to take a look tomorrow.

My issue came with trying to remember my Cryptic ID since its been awhile. Had to recover my password, and then I couldn't find a link to ever get back to the demo setup page again. Possibly adding in a link on the register or the /demo page itself would be incredibly beneficial to those lacking in their googling skills.
