I HIT the WALL!!!

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
It happened; I hit the wall and I just can't play anymore..

Maybe I played too much. I played the demo. I did the "head start"..

I played at least 5 days a week anywhere from 2 to 6 hours a session.

I love the game, I loved the missions, I loved the space combat, the ground combat - I saw so much potential for it to get even better and better!.

I got 2 characters to RA 5; Tactical and Science. I played a Klingon too, just to see how it was...

I did a PvP session everyday. I loved it!

I bred Tribbles and got multiples of all that are available, distributing them among all my Bridge Officers.

I collected my drops and built up my "crafting" at Memory Alpha - but not to the point it yielded anything useful.

And now suddenly, this last week, while leveling my Engineer character to Captain, I suddenly did not want to play again. I didn't want to fight another fight, push another button. I just couldn't bear it!

I still like the game, believe in the concept and would like to continue.. I just can't!

Guess I'm burnt.. This happened in WoW and I did go back there several times.. guess I'll have to wait & see what happens..

But right now, there is nothing that is inspiring me to get back into my ship... :(

    Burnout happens. Allllllll the time.

Think about how many video games you've played in your day.

I used to love the heck out of Caesar III. A little city building game on my comp. I could lose 6 hours of a day just tweaking my little town so my citizens would stop complaining about being hungry.

    That game absorbed me.

    I don't play it anymore.

I have fond memories of playing it.

It happens. It's the end result of any video game. The good ones keep you around for a bit. But the story always ends the same.
But right now, there is nothing that is inspiring me to get back into my ship...

Hopefully ship interiors might inspire you to once again want to be inside your ship.

But seriously, don't stress about it. Put the game down for a bit. Come back to it later. Refreshed.

It's ok to be burned out.

Completely normal, I've "hit the wall" in so many MMO's....some I go back to, some I don't.
Sounds like you played an average of about 20 hours a week (you said between 2 and 6, so I cut it in the middle at 4 X 5 days a week).
Games been out 3 months, so 20 X 12 weeks.....you've probably played about 240 hours. That's like 10 play throughs of normal games, or 6 weeks at a 40 hr. job.
At some point I'll burn out....they could add new content daily and it will still happen. Then I'll go back to LotRO, or WoW, EQ II .....over the years I've built a stable of games I rotate through.
Take some time off and wait for something that catches your eye.

Sounds like you have MMOADD as it's called....the cycle of burning out and coming back. Normal, IMO.

You are right - I used to get very absorbed in INTERIORS:

setting up bases in CoH/CoV was wonderful!

The home in EQII was really fun to decorate.

SWG had the best: Ship interiors, homes, factories, heck - whole cities to set up...

I am most certain that STO will havi it all...

    Interesting ...

To a point if we're not all careful it can happen to all of us. IMHO that is one reason why there should be more varriation of activities in STO. Some of it could be purely social. Some activities could be R&R themes (ie: Bass Fishing... can you imagine a well done fishing game inside of STO .. ??? ) How about some interesting Klingon "side themes" to add to the game?

How about several different themes within some of the missions of STO? ie: instead of scanning 6 of the same alien flowers ... you scan one of them and it springs a trap that sends a player to another world, or deminsion. That trap could take a day or so to unravel and return to the "normal" game.

Just a few thoughts... Yeah .. IMHO there needs to be a little spice added in there. I'd like to see a bit of that to help break the pace a bit .. AND it just might extend the life of the gaame as well.

    (just my own opinion)

It's unavoidable. The saying, "All good things come to an end".

I was stunned at how fast it happened here.

    2 years for SWG
    5 years for EvE

    6 months for LotRO
    5 months for DAoC
    3 months for Rhyzom
    3 months PotBS
6 months out of Runescape (4 paid sub)

    This one? A month?
Same for AoC, they only lasted a month. Still not bad. I think I got 4 hrs out of Tabula Rasa and it was in the junk CD pile. I do see a pattern though. Decent games with well done crafting systems seem to hold me longer. Ya win some, ya lose some.

If you've got opiions (and who doesn't :D) you might want to post them on Saving STO. It's a thread with the premise that STO doesn't have the "holding" power (i.e., fast burnout as Loci said) as other MMOs and is about discussing the underlying causes why that is. Hopefully, it's something that can help Cryptic.
