I've heard from some of the friends that I invited to the trial that the demo was far too short to get any real feel for the game. Going through the tutorial and the first mission only gets you to around level 3 or so and greatly locks you out of much of the content that might entice players to buy the game in order to experience more.
Why not raise the level cap for the demo to five or perhaps six so they can run a few more missions under their belts, experience how the skill points system works, how working with your bridge officers works and some of the other things that you can't experience in the early 'straight out of tutorial' parts of the game? I think this would really interest and excite players a bit more and whet their whistles to more readily purchase the game.
Definitely agree. I think it should really let you get as far as your first new ship before cutting you off. The game doesn't even really start to get interesting until then.

That may be the problem. The first 10 levels are quite dull, so it wouldn't do them any favours.

Right, the game doesn't really 'pick up' until you get your 2nd Tier ship. That would also give new players something to experience since they'd get to choose their ship class and get to play around with the customization system a bit more.

Well, in my opinion, the whole game is quite dull (which is why I didn't buy it after Open Beta), but it's less dull when you finally get to your first ship. This weekend I figured I'd try the demo to see if things improved, but I blew through the demo content in an hour and a half.
I think you should have a much greater variety in ship choice at the beginning of the game anyway. The Miranda variants should be the Science-class ship for the 0 Tier. There should be a cruiser and an escort ship in that tier to choose as well.

Heh, I've been so busy being ****ed about other stuff that I forgot about this! Idunno, maybe the demo could also include a premade higher-level char with access to one mission to show off? (we all know which one would draw people like a zombie to brains)
