welcome back weekend ruined. error in sign up process.

welcome back offers after 3 months of live? how many people can leave in 3 months.

id start the welcome back and mass ads and marketing campaign somewhere like around season 3. and continue it at season 5.

season 2 looks promising. and season 3 should expand even more on 2, if 2 delivers, so yeah market at season 3. not now

still no content now.

I agree it's to early. at least after season 2 would be a better time.

Yeah. I checked out the Beta. Its very disappointing and doesnt show 1/100th of what the game is or give people the concept of how this game can be.

There is no content in game and even less in the beta. It is seriously a half hour of game play. If that.

I'd have to think this is another marketing department SNAFU....

Marketing:"Hey, the demo is going live, let's make a free weekend, we'll get some old players back with new demo players"

Dev: "Isn't it a bit early for a free weekend...let's get more major updates first".

Marketing "hey, I don't tell you how to do your job.......oh btw, I need, 2 C-store items by Tuesday and a promo item for the T.J. Hooker DVD release by Thursday, need to shift some units. Make them your top priority".

    Dev: "........"

In order for Cryptic to get that fat $20million bonus, they have to reach a certain amount of revenue by a certain date.

I don't think Cryptic has reached that mark yet, and are desperately trying to.

STO was developed with a 100,000 subscription target. The excelled that, plus they stated there was much more interest in the game than they expected. So it's not that.

Its just a marketing attempt to increase subscription figures, nothing more.

Of all the people I know that cancelled sub, only 1 came back and thats because his sub was cancelled by finance problems not discontent. The rest played Eve.

It's doubtful STO will even be around 5-6 months from now the way things are looking. The game hasn't progressed much, beyond the difficulty slider which just is not enough.

Plus, they are announcing a new game (FFS IT BETTER NOT BE CTHULU CRYPTIC) to completely RUIN any hopes of CO and STO even making it. They will completely destroy that new license as well.

I lifetimed with CO and STO, big big mistakes. There's no way I'm buying another Cryptic product ever. And don't even THINK about an expansion for these two POS titles.

To me, a welcome back weekend, a referral program, and a "demo" within 4 months of release all scream desperation.

If I remember correctly, the bonus is suppose to go out in July. That would mean the cut off date would probably be in May or June.

Which could explain why Cryptic couldn't wait until Season 2.

    Just a thought.

Clearly you've not been keeping up on development activity. Especially with CO given its already had an expansion, with the second announced. There are a lot of happy players over there at the moment. Its getting a lot of focus and its subscription numbers are climbing as a result.

Welcome back weekends, etc this soon after launch isn't uncommon in the MMO industry. Plenty of companies have done it.

I've played many MMO's, don't remember one that had a welcome back weekend this early.

    Care to provide some examples?

You know how everyone always likes to say that things don't get tested enough around here?

    Well ... fancy this ...

What if this free weekend event was a dry run? To see if it worked? And to get the bugs out?

So that when they do it again (and they will do it again, since they keep doing them in their other game) ... and tie the next one to a big patch possibly ... everything will fall into place smoothly for once?

Nah. Cryptic sucks. That's always the answer isn't it?

    /sigh

That's absolutely wrong. I am sick of this horrible posting (well, it does go with the horrible game) that never cites a real reference ever. Prove it. In 10+ years of MMOing, I cannot think of a single major title (if you put in web browser TRIBBLE.... no) that did this THREE months after launch. You people are hilarious how you keep defending it. Just play the junk game for what it is, and leave it be. Cryptic is by far the worst MMO company in existence, and has destroyed two beloved licenses.

I'm sure I'll get some crying reply to this, somehow trying to think that it's still salvageable. Go play CO, realize wow it's fun and has SO MUCH POTENTIAL, and realize that this horrid company has STO now to save and is actually announcing another title in less than six months. Game over Cryptic.

I do play CO. You've clearly not played it since Revolation was released. Its a hell of a lot more polished these days.

    Nice edit.

Clearly you have never been to Singapore and clearly you have no clue what you type. The game is dying and they don't release sub numbers. Keep spouting misinformation.

LoTRO had a trial not that long after release. You could play through the introduction.

I don't think cryptic sucks, but I think it's still to early for a dry run. I would of pushed it back at least to 1.3. but I could be wrong.

You don't need to know sub number, to see there's more people around. CO was dieing, its not anymore.

LOTRO started their trials in Aug of '07. 4 months after launch.

Their first welcome back weekend was a year + after launch.

And Turbine isn't "Plenty of companies". If so many companies have done it, surely you can pick others?

I know you don't think they suck. But the general response to every move they make is either "this isn't good enough" or "this is far too late."

It's a catch 22. Every move they've ever made as a company has been a total failure according to the combined grousing of the crack analysts on the STO forums.

    ;)

I think I finally started to get confused by all this when I started to notice how things went on the Klingon issues. It would seem that Cryptic sucks because they are not updating the Klingon Faction. At least that's what I read in four or five different threads. But then when someone points out that there's this huge list of updates that Klingons are getting, Cryptic still sucks because they are not addressing Klingon Customization. When it is pointed out that they are doing that, and it's even confirmed that they're doing it for 2.0, Cryptic still sucks because Klingons don't have any good PVP.

    It's a merry-go-round.

And I find it in a lot of other conversations. The only constant is ... Cryptic sucks.

Another example was ... someone complaining STO needs more story arc content. Cryptic says they're working on it. But ... they suck because the game needs more story arc content. But they're working on it. But they suck. But they're working on it. Doesn't matter, they just plain suck.

That's where so many threads end up.

That's where this thread seems to be headed.

I find it all very confusing. I don't know what to make of it. Where's the hope? Where's the suggestions to make it not suck? Where's the ideas on what will help?
