STO and Champions Online cause my PC to 'die'

Hey,

Started the demo only Yesterday and at first it was working well, managed to get to the end of the Demo area and enjoyed what I saw. But today I log on to create a new character and try out a new class and as soon as the in-game part loads my computer starts to 'die' the sounds become garbled and stutter and my framerate becomes unplayable.

I have checked my temperatures and hardware and there is nothing wrong with them. GPU is idling at around 40-45c and only 55-60c at load and CPU staying around 40c so I don't think thats my problem. Also, Star Trek Online and Champions Online are the only games I have found to cause this. So maybe it is something to do with your game engine?

Was there any hotfix/update at all last night? I have updated my drivers and still the problem persists and what makes it worse is that the problem doesn't go away when I close the game. Only after a full restart does it return to normal.

PC Specs:

AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE
3GB DDR3 RAM
ATI Radeon HD4890 1024MB

Any help would be great!

Check the 12v rails on your PSU.

Just checked, everything is fine :/

And remember its only these two Cryptic games that cause it none of my other games are having problems at all.

EDIT: Is there like a Repair tool or something for the Client?

There should be a force verify option in the launcher, I also only had my computer just shut off for me in STO, but after swapping the PSU it has worked flawlessly. The game uses a lot of power.

I actually found the problem in the end. Its quite bizarre really...

The problem turned out to be having my USB Wireless Network Adapter plugged into my FRONT USB 2.0 port. I have no idea why or how but when I unplugged it the problem stopped occurring, and when I put it back in to test it out the problem again happened. So it was definitely somehow my Wireless Adapter causing it.

I have the adapter plugged into my back USB ports now and it no longer causes a problem. Wierd though right?

front USB ports are most often fixed to the motherboard via a wire system with a plug, whereas rear USB ports are soldered direct to the board.

The problem could be something stupid like they've built the computer incorrectly and the wires have been put in the wrong place, the wire is broken, or the polarity is incorrectly installed.

try plugging something else into the front port (usb stick, hard drive) and see if the same problem occurs.
try to avoid using something which broadcasts a signal (wireless donlge or bluetooth dongle).

I have a hard drive which you can hear spin up and spin down through my headphones when you plug it in or out. When it starts up it sounds like an angry bee, and when data is being written to it, it sounds like a very fast dial-up modem.
