Ground combat is broken...period. It's kinda pathetic that a group of enemies can wipe my whole team out in about 15 secs flat, but other groups won't on advanced difficulty. Cryptic.... actually you know what, i'm outa things to say to you your so horrible.
I started playing a week ago and the ground combat is outright annoying at times. There have been 2 instances where i had to use perfectly timed strategy on a normal difficulty. Stuff like that should be only reserved for high difficulty missions.
I wouldn't steak too much on cryptic, they have a really bad track record with their games. Theres a few key fun features, but as a whole they're not that great, I think to them they are just going to launch games and really never try and make one that sticks. Right now I can say there is nothing in the pipelines that interests me, The only game i really wanted to play was Star Wars: Galaxies, but when i finally was able to make an account, i found out the game had been reworked and ruined. It's companies like Cryptic, SOE, and EA that are driving me to pursue a degree in computer sciences so I can help to create a MMO that is actually worth what it cost to play.
Aside from the Reman Shadow Guard Captains (the ones that spawn those annoying multiple shadow forms of themselves), I really haven't found any ground combat groups that I have trouble with, even on Elite. The only time I have trouble is with groups that are just inside doorways in the underground base missions... those spots where the texture map breaks between the hallways and rooms. That part sucks, since it's impossible to get a sense of what the group composition is.

i had one group two days ago, and that was one group in a mission(on advanced), i cleared the rest of the mission easily, but that one group, if i got aggro, i was dead, in UNDER TWO SECONDS
no matter what decoys or even if i attacked very last of all, if i attacked at all, *SPLAT*, nearly instantly
in the end, after sevral tries, i managed to use my team for decoys, and they delayed the enemy just BARELY long enough for me to scan the objective, and then, i was the last one alive, and the team(which i ordered to FOCUS FIRE, on an ENSIGN npc, had not managed to even kill that one ensign
that was s'rellian npcs btw, not sure if that's what's broken though, the rest of the mission was easy
and that was just one mission out of i think 7 ground ones i did since that latest patch
when bug testing, or commenting on bugs, remember, just because you dont run into it, it dosnt mean there is no bug

For one Im not doing missions you get from Kurland or whatever, these are ground exploration missions. My whole team has the best weapons I can get them (antiproton lol) and has good sheilds/armor etc. Some groups are cake, yes I agree with that. BUT there are others that kill you so damn fast you can't even get BO's around to flank them. So sorry but I know it's not me.

It's being looked at. Several posts by Devs have been made saying this is being looked at. dstahl's latest engineering report mentions it's one of the top things being investigated right now. Hopefully a fix or something to address it will be put up onto tribble in the next week or so.
This has been cited, and feedback reported by testers since the difficulty slider first went onto Tribble. We know this problem exists. We told the devs. They now know it exists.
