Im New to STO, but not the MMO scene. My old mmos are FFXI, WoW, AoC, and Runes of Magic. My thing with StO is where to start. Is the game solo or party focused? Which is the best balanced service with a decent "Guild/Fleet"?

ummm, You can solo or you can group. Be prepared for different answers.

Most of the game can be played solo but will scale for larger groups. If you're going to use the Damage Slider it's helpful to build a helpful group. Certain aspects, such as Fleet Actions, require many people to be in the particular zone and STFs (raids) at RA5 generally require a full five-man team.

Either way will work. I personally play solo due to my hectic schedule. It's hard to be on at a specific time. That makes group hard for me.

Yeah, the majority of the game can be soloed. Difficulty for a mission is adjusted on the fly and dependent on how many people you have in your group. There are certain missions and task forces that will require a group to complete, but not doing those won't impact your leveling experience in any way... might impact your fun experience though as a few of those were really entertaining! :)

It's more a choice thing, you'll be able to do either pretty easily :)

Welcome to STO. I hope you enjoy your stay.

I mainly play solo but there are instances where you automatically are grouped with others, as in Starbase 24 and defending sectors.

I have my group settings set to auto-join so if someone is on the same mission we get through it faster.

With my captain rank captain I normally will stand back and only attack when someone looks like they are going to buy the farm. And since I am a cruiser captain I will shield and/or repair new captains. The reason I do this is so I don't grab all the loot.
