You are not alone. Having the same issue. Clicking the billing support link on the launcher just takes you to the main game page, which is pretty sad.

I'm lad I didn't buy this game too. If they can't get a free demo weekend working how is the game supposed to be any better. I'll save my money.

I think DEMO and FREE TRIAL are misnomers ... they imply that you never bought or had an account for the game before. Some press releases say 'Welcome Back' and other say 'Demo' or 'Free Trial' the latter implying that you are wanting to the try the game out... like before purchase. If someone here has successfully installed the client, found where to locate the 'free trial' key that the installer asks for after 8 hours of download, as much a step by step (url by url) would be appreciated cuz all I'm finding is atari/cryptic circular FAQ/links.

If you already have an account that was active prior to the release (usually from beta), go to http://www.startrekonline.com/user/free_demo_start/Cryptic to activate the demo.

There seems to be some confusion in this thread about the demo vs. welcome back weekend since both came out simultaneously.

The demo offers you unlimited time to play through the tutorial, one followup mission, and hang out in Sol. Chat options are severely limited and all other missions/systems are blocked. No retail key is required to play.

The welcome back weekend is a three day event allowing previous retail customers (a retail key MUST be activated on the account) to try out the changes in an attempt to entice them to come back and subscribe. AS far as I know, it has no boundaries on the content except for the closing time on Monday.

I am also having same problem. Downloaded demo, logged in with my cryptic account... and I get ERROR CONTACT BILLING SUPPORT. I was holding out on the demo to see if this game was worth my money. Thus far I am unimpressed with Cryptic...

Exact same problem, unlimited free trial not working, returns account inactive. Downloaded and setup a new account correctly following the prompts diving during the install. pretty bad sign considering this is a few days after the event launched and no sort of notice announcing a problem on the page.

The purpose of these things is to bring more players to the game who didn't try it out at launch, and unfortunately you pretty much just told those players the game sucked.

If you had an account that a retail key was applied and you let your account go inactive., you need to sign up at the welcome back page to activate the welcomeback weekend.

If you never had an active account with a retail (purchase game) key then you needed to download the demo client.
as part of the install it take you to a site to activate the demo account. On some installs that link to the activate key page is not happpening. Reinstall on some corrected that.

Try this link for the demo activation (will not work if you have a retail key already applied to the account) : http://www.startrekonline.com/user/free_demo_start/Cryptic

Your account does not qualify for the demo.

When i D/L the DEmo it had bad files from the cryptic server i tried numerious times to patch fix them
    Via the Verify
After many crashes.. I DEL the Demo and hit set up when it came to the register [as i already have a cryptic/atari accout for another game i recived this error [Your account does not qualify for the demo.]

But it continues the install and the Launch comes up
When I hit the quick launch it Shows an earlier version of the launch client 24a.9 i believe
Then it shows its going to D/L 11 GB of files
this is what we had to do in Open Beta.
