I decided to start this thread to discuss the possible in-game appearance of the Galaxy-X class. This thread is -NOT- to discuss if you're for or against the RAF, to flame Cryptic or anything else related to that. This is purely a discussion of the ship as it was seen in AGT and how that might translate into the game.
Now, that being said we know that the Galaxy X will have one of its weapons replaced by the 'Phaser Lance' weapon. This would lend me to believe that if it's got the same weapons slots as the Tier 4 Galaxy it will have 3 forward weapons + phaser lance and 3 aft weapons with everything else such as hull, shields and crew remaining essentially equal to the original Tier 4 ship. There's also the possibility of it having an out of battle cloaking device.
One thing I think that should be done with the Galaxy X is that I don't think it should be able to use saucer separation if that system is ever added to STO. Looking at the design it seems to me that the bore of the phaser lance links the saucer to the neck of the secondary hull and so would make separating the saucer impossible. If it -does- have saucer separation then I think it'd be a solid idea to disable the phaser lance weapon while it's undergoing it as the cannon would probably need the extra power from the warp engines which the saucer itself cannot provide.
I hope it will have universal slots cuz my two toons are sci and tac, not eng captain. :P
I hope that uber phaser of doom can provide two options: multi-targets (mediocre DPS) and one shotted target (insanely HIGH DPS).
If those will be in that ship, then this ship everyone must own asap!
I doubt the slots will be universal but I suppose it's possible. I also doing thing the phaser lance will have two modes of fire, from what was said it looks like it'll be a thin cylinder which can pass through multiple targets.
Yeah, I doubt it will be able to separate sections if they ever introduce that into the game. The cannon would seem to make that impossible, unless it can also somehow separate-- it connects both the saucer and the main hull.
I would imagine the Galaxy-X would have a similar layout to the Tier5 ships; which is normally 4 forward and 4 aft weapons, but instead being 3 forward and 4 aft... with one of the original four forwards being taken up by the Phaser Lance. It would probably have crew and hull comparable to a Star Cruiser, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gave an extra Tactical Console and Ensign Tactical power like an Assault Cruiser-- would be especially juicy to have Beam Overload 1 with that huge cannon
I'm not sure how I feel about the Galaxy-X having a real Cloak-- certainly not a Battle Cloak like Birds of Prey. Power-level wise, I think it would be wiser if the Galaxy-X had an innate Mask Energy Signature power, kind of like how Science Vessels have innate Subsystem Targeting. Course Mask Energy Signature is a terribly ability... should probably be Rank 3.
The special cannon is perk enough to use it, unless it's hull and other slots are going to be similar to a Tier4 vessel, then a real Cloak would be warranted for balance purposes.

Ideally, I think keeping some of the stats down to T4 and giving it the canon and cloak would help to offset a lot of the balance problems. In that fashion you get a couple more tactical options while not being as able to slug it out on the same level as your average T5.
