Don’t offer functionality that’s not obtainable via in-game activities for actual cash; generally available game expansions being the exception. Pass it on.

This coming from the lifer who has access to the Captain's Table which is not obtainable via in-game activities.

Note 1: I could care less about the Captain's Table, I am just pointing out the hypocrisy of your statement.

Note 2: I know non-lifers can now get access to the Captain's Table after being subscribed for a few hundred days, however this is a recent change. When the Captain's Table was first announced it was suposed to be lifers only but was changed. The same thing could happen with the RAF bonuses (Galaxy X).

What exactly are you talking about? Did I miss some news today? Or is this another post about the referral program being unfair?

It can't be about the RAF. That has nothing to do with in-game activities. The only thing I can think of is some of the talents C-Store PCs can have - but I think most of them can be gotten via the Alien template anyway.

It has an exchange and bank and NPC shop in it. Granted, those are all functions that are available in other places in the game, however it is more then just a static environment (aka an environment with a lack of functionality).

Hmmmm so in that case all pre-order promotions and any other promotions shouldn't be made available because they can't be obtained in the game?

If that is the case then I have to disagree with the OP. Promotions and C-Store items are all ways for Cryptic to make money, which is fine. The things that they do offer don't give anyone an unfair advantage in the game. If they offered a "one shot kill weapon" for 5000 points and only a handful of people could get it than I'd understand his frustration and agree, but that is a different scenario.

Sol station has an exchange, bank, and NPC shop in it (plus many other useful things in it) and it just as close as the CT when your in Sol System. I go into Sol Station almost every day. I've been in the CT twice between all my characters.

It was a note to whomever might be reading at Cryptic. I was pointing to the RAF brouhaha. By "functionality" I didn't mean fluff like the Captains' Table. It offers nothing not available elsewhere.

Some are livid about the Galaxy X being made available only or firstly to people who recruit five others and get them to stay for at least one paid month. I don't personally desire the ship, but it will have at least one feature other tier 5 ships won't and is a much requested design. I don't blame those upset. It's bad customer relations to shut out the most loyal of your ongoing paying customers who most certainly have already trumpeted the game to whomever they thought might be interested. I know I have.

The Marketing Gurus(TM) at Cryptic and/or Atari should know better by now than to chum the waters.

Also, it's hardly hypocrisy for someone to point out that it's bad to litter in someone else's yard just because it's not yours. And pre-order promotions were available to the general public to freely choose amongst; apples, oranges.

As well: the C-Store is great! Love it. But it should remain full of account management convenience items and cosmetic enhancements. No items desirable for their additional functionality belong there.

Have no idea what the original poster is on about, but think I'lkl hijack the post from the non-sensical ramblings to proposed an idea.

As we all know the Kobyashi Maru Scenario, is probably one of the most defining parts of Star Trek Lore there is. From the non-canonical introduction to the "real events" where Captain Archer was faced with the very situation of rescuing the Deuterium Frieghter along the Neutral Zone before being Ambushed by 3 Romulan controlled Klingon Cruisers... to it's legendary introduction in Wrath of Kahn as the final test for Command Officers to take as a way of testing their character.

With how the game stands right now, it wouldn't be possible to really re-create the said inccident/test in quite the same way that it appears in canon; however it could make for an interesting replayable score-based mission, where the actions of the captain would change their score.

The challenge being less about actually saving the crew which could be made difficult/impossible at best to achieve, but rather about what the captains do to attempt the rescue. Points specifically add up as you accomplish more. The objective of the mission would simply be to rescue everyone from the Maru and escape without being destroyed, might sound like a simple objective but should be set in a scenario that would require very creative thinking in order to accomplish this goal (if possible at all)

I personally find the STF quite a challenge, but the suggestion would be to make it that sort of a challenge; where your abilities as captain really become the cornerstone of your survival during the test. Those who score well, could come away with the "uberloot" they want to get from the STF, but for those who actually accomplish the impossible and Win at the No-Win-Scenario could get something special such as a title and/or ship for bragging rights.

Can't honestly think of something that would be more "Fan Service" or "Appeasing for those who are driven by a challenge"

The key aspect here being that, you can't team up to do it and you only get a single life. To increase the difficutly could in-fact throw in that whenever the hull drops below say 10% a Death-Penalty Buff (damage debuff) is activated.

Could see it entertaining a number of people for quite a while, especially people could see your score somewhere (like a leaderboard) to see where you stand against everyone else, friends and fleet members. :)

    Just a thought

As far as I've seen, there are no promotions making either an S.S. Kobyashi Maru freighter ship or skin available.

Nor is there any Kobyashi Maru mission, or task force.

Nor is there any Kobyashi Maru power/skill/manuever offered.

So I think they took your advice and pulled their planned Kobyashi Maru special promotion.

    Congratulations.

I believe it has been stated by a dev that the forward beam cannon will be replacing one of the ship's forward weapon banks. So, instead of being able to put 3x beam arrays and 1x torp in the fore weapons you can only put 2x beam arrays and 1x torp with the cannon.

It is now. You can access it after 400 days of paid play time. Just play the game for 400 days and the door is open for you.

That would make me super super happy. Because that would make it less effective in combat than a Sovereign.

    LoL.

    Cruisers. With cannons. Yay!

The real imporatant question is: Will the AGT Enterprise be able to go straight up like we saw it do in the episode? :D

It's not really a cannon. It's more like a big phaser with Beam Overload always on. :)

dstahl said i could hit multiple targets, so it would probably have Beam: Fire at Will always on. Plus he said it might have an out of combat cloak.

Actually he said "I believe" rather then "can" hit multiple targets. He wasn't sure when he stated it and, to my knowledge, hasn't posted additional information about that since. If you know where he has since verified the information please post the link. The same goes for the cloak.

So long as it doesn't confer a significant advantage, why not?

Edit: never mind. Upon rereading the thread, I see that you're referring to the projected capabilities of the Galaxy-X class.

it has a mkII store it last I looked, if it had all marks and medals and whatnot then it might actually be useful
