The changes to the mission system are actually something great. The carebear mode of "Normal" should frankly be permanently deleted. Advanced is challenging and Elite is very very fun.
That being said, PVP is dead. As a Fed, you can just join the planetoid instance, sit and wait to get completely obliterated by decloaking, taking down shields in one burst, chewing through hulls, and then RUNNING FROM THE FIGHT to start again and get points. Free SP.
And who made it a law that ALL Klingon ships had cloaking devices? It's completely against their nature. They should have ships that are bristling with weapons and fast, forward facing. Enough of the Romulan **** in Klingon. Running from the fights is so anti-Klingon I don't know where to start.
EVE is the gold standard for PVP and space PVP at that. It celebrates 7 years now, and it's gone through alot of iterations. If STO has anything going for it is that most of the reviews and players actually LIKE space combat, which is no small task. However, without this PVP element there is no future for STO and EVE will continue it's amazing journey.
So, unfortunately to the Klingon players now, Feds please boycott this mode of play until Cryptic fixes it. I know they have a roomful of fixes but it has to take priority.
The Klinks still have KvK so there really is no loss there.
That is true, but the balance issue is definitely apparent in FvK. It's not a build issue, as losing a group instance where we go 0/15 or fail to keep any of the territory is assuming at least 1-2 have a good build. I've seen Klingon ships slaughtering things 7-9 levels above them.
If you don't think it's an issue, fine. Just please post why PVP is so dead, why Klingons appear to be dominating, and any kind of data you have.
But as for build I'm "armor tanking" in EVE parlance of our time, as an Eng and have been very successful in PVE encounters and FvF. Shields are decent, but once it gets to armor I'm pretty much set. Why they Klinks are eating armor now I don't know.
We have a tight run a few nights ago:
Klingons won by 2 in a Space PVP
As for Hold and Control:
Klingons won had 200 influence left by the end but I came out with 380k damage and >200k healing.
No one grouped once inside either map - we simply did our own things. I even got accused of cheating for a nice build on my end - took a while to explain I hadn't.
I'm a Fed Eng RA 5 in an Assault Cruiser - if it helps.
. The carebear mode of "Normal" should frankly be permanently deleted. Advanced is challenging and Elite is very very fun.
Why? Because you want it gone?
If people have fun on Normal, let them play on Normal. It doesn't benefit you in any way, shape or form, nor do people playing on Normal detract from your gaming experience at all.
Let people play the game they pay for the way they want to play it.
I play nothing bu Fed, and have to ask - just how is it sooo unbalanced? I have a fairly good FvK 'victory' ratio; and nothice that IF a Fed group understands the tactics that are advantages to the Federation faction; and work together - you can steamroll Klingons just fine.
Also, (and as someone who tried EVE for a year - including a few large engagements) - I have to laugh at the EVE has the 'Gold Standard'... comment. EVE PVP = Gankfest followed by a regrind. But, if that floats your boat, I suggest you PvE here and PvP in EVE. The LAST thing STO needs is to copy EVE's PvP system.
My suggestion: Form a pre-made and learn to work together - AND take a good set of BO powers for PvP (I have my PvP BO and a very different PvE BO crew). Is the PvP balance here perfect? Nope; but I've yet to see one that is (and no, IMO EVE isn't all that 'balanced' either) - butit's fine if you can get a good goup of players that can work together.
That is true, but the balance issue is definitely apparent in FvK. It's not a build issue, as losing a group instance where we go 0/15 or fail to keep any of the territory is assuming at least 1-2 have a good build. I've seen Klingon ships slaughtering things 7-9 levels above them.

I didn't say I don't think it's an issue, I'm saying that boycotting will not work. The point of a boycott is to abstain from something make people take notice of a problem. But when there are ways to circumvent the boycott (in this case Klingons going to play KvK) then the boycott really isn't going to work, because there is no stoppage of PvP to help get your point across.

Easy there chief, it's more a statement on the game's survivability than anything about taking away from your experience. There's no way they would get rid of it, but it certainly has hurt the game in the extreme as far as how the overall population viewing it. If we are the 1/10 of players left from the 1-2 month exodus, I don't see how those enjoying a "grinding" spacebar mashing zero loss/all gain scenario can keep the game running. 1 million accounts down to 100k. Not good.
every klink ship, even civilian ones, are depicted with a cloack in star trek. so yeah.
there is honor and there there is practicability.
Klinks like to fight, sure, they even accept death as a result of that attitude. but they wont charge in blindly (well most of em anyway...) and sure as hell will not shy away from using a tactical advantage that their oppoent miss out on on their own free will.

Cloaking warships is against Klingon nature? LOL!!! Guess you haven't watched Star Trek since the 3rd movie. Or TNG. Or DS9.
I also love your style of FedWhine. Instead of trying to figure out exactly WHY you're getting obliterated in one pass, instead of ASKING for advice as to how to defend against or avoid such a problem, you b*tch and whine on the forums. You one of those guys that whine in a PvP match also?
And please, don't act sorry about your *ahem* boycott that will adversely affect Klingons. This GAME is an adverse affect to Klingons enough already.
If you like the PvP system in EVE, fine. It's there for you whenever you decide to return.
Gold standard for Andrys != gold standard for everyone.
Different players have different thresholds of what they enjoy in PvP - some like level/item loss. Some prefer rankings but no loss. Some prefer honor systems to prevent ganking. Some want the wild west experience.
STO isn't tryng to cater to a hardcore PvP audience - it seems antithetical to Starfleet at least (and even Klingons feel ganking is for "unworthy opponents").
Whine, whine, whine, QQ, QQ Klings are over powered.
This is so BS I don't even know where to start.
Klingons are not overpowered. Take tonight for instance, I have spent a good deal of the evening in PVP, Salvage Large... Want to know why the feds lost the times I was playing? I will tell you. Because you guys are too busy trying to get kills instead of working together like you should. Sure, you will have three or four head to the same objective but you don't support one another. You don't coordinate your targets, nor do you tend to help one another.
As Klingons, we hunt in packs if you haven't noticed. We have team leaders that designate targets and we support each other. Case in point. Tonight, myself and one other were supporting a carrier. We would stay cloaked until a lone fed would come to engage and then we would concentrate fire. The interesting thing is we didn't have to speak to one another to do that. We weren't technically in a team together. However, based on our individual experiences we knew what to do.
Stop complaing that we are overpowered when it is your tactics and lack of coordination that gets you killed. Focus on what you are doing wrong and fix it instead of crying on the forums for a nerf that no one wants or needs.

when i pvp on federation side the thing which i notice the most is how all feds are set up for pve they have very few group abilities as well as that they have a "im a soloer" mentality and will go off alone .
Playing klingon the play style is totally different first thing that happens is everyone groups then they stay as a pack and wait for a single fed whoever targets the first ship everyone will assist that target until its dead.
because feds feed into most pvp instances 1 at a time they dont stand a chance.
When me and my bro play feds we normally allways win , because we work as a team my engineer admiral is set up with group abilities to ensure the team stay alive.
klingons have the same abilities as feds they get the cloaking device as a boost. I also recomend you start loading up with shield / engine / weapon batteries then you can get away from the fight.

I was playing quite a bit of PvP with my Fed alt, using a Star Cruiser. For most parts, we were steamrolling the Klingon players. All because the very surprising amount of Fed support for each other and staying in 1 of 2 large groups roaming around. I've arrived in on a teammate on the last sliver of hullpoints only to pop ET, HE, use a Shield Battery and ES on them. I've been focused by some dangerous BoP & Raptor players, and should have blown up several times but I was kept alive by bandaid repairs from the Escorts who then turned around and cut to pieces the KDF. Another big surprise, especially in PUGs, is that respawning players went into a fight where they were needed for most parts. Instead of 3 players arriving in a fight that's well in hand, they mostly went to fights where they could make a difference in dicey situation.
You can read my posting history, and I rail constantly about quite a bit of Fed PvP mentality. But tonight was a good example of the opposite.
The Federation lineup of ships is fine. Nothing wrong. The biggest hurdle Fed PUGs have to overcome is the mentality of the average Fed who isn't that much into PvP and may not be as team / group oriented, keeping in mind how support wins a fight just as much as DPS. When Feds do support each other and do stick together, they're very hard to crack.
One of the major reasons why players get killed so quick in a single pass is because they're caught by total surprise. Another major reason is that support isn't being done by their team.
EVE is not a good example of PVP. Do you want to loose your ship every time you die?
I dont have problems PVPing as long as people are smart enough to know their roll. People need heals and you need to team up so you can see the status of other players. You also should stay close to each other. Some heals require a 5km distance or closer (transfer shield strength for one). You also have to use tactics. Target the same target. Take them down. Use science to buff and debuff.
Premade fed groups work really well.
I havent made it into a pvp queue in a while (I have tried). Classes, even the seemingly weaker ones, can excel in pvp depending on how good you are.
Work as a team and you win. Think you can nuke everything all by yourself you loose.

That's what I am saying, and I agree. When team support each other there is a better chance they are going to win. Teamwork, support and coordination is key in PVP.

Another reason is that they don't know their enemy.
For example, most KDF use Disruptors (in part because the critical is a massive debuff to resistance).
Now, a smart player might realize that a few abilities can help mitigate that:
Reverse Shield Polarity (turns damage into shields)
Emergency Power to Shields (gain a resistance buff)
That's not even getting into:
Group Skills
Debuff removers
Engineering Consoles/Shields spec'ced for disruptor damage (which is most KDF energy damage I encounter, even at RA5).

This is very true. Knowing your enemy is important. Sometimes I will care various sheilds with me, with different resists and use the one the majority of the enemy is using.
Personally, I don't use disruptors because I figure that most feds use sheilds and resists for disruptors.
Funny, I have had about 50/50 as to whether we(Feds) trounced the Klingons or vice versa. Of course there are those really rare times when it ends up 15/15- 14/15 too.
Personally, I don't use disruptors because I figure that most feds use sheilds and resists for disruptors.
Unfortunately, most I've seen don't. Also, disruptor specs free up skill points for higher tier skills (like Weapons Performance, Maintenance, etc.)
If the OP could post his:
BOFF skill layout
Ship Item layout
Personal Skills
We can then accurately diagnose his woes in PvP and offer insight on how to improve for *most* not all PvP matches (again, there are counters to counter to counters).

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't disagreeing with you. I agree, he should post his build as you are right, there are counter to counter to counter and so on. On my fed, I stuck with phasers but not disruptors on my Klingon due to I would have thought that more feds would use resists against disruptors.

Feds have access to the same BO powers I do.
Feds ships have more hull on a ship per ship basis
Feds ships tend to have stronger sheilds
The only difference is the battle cloak and that is on BOP only and that starting at LTC.
Where is the problem?
