Anyway we can just bypass STO Tutorial Mission

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I was thinken and was talken to a few friends but I think it would be a great idea to do for STO. Its something not so important but never the less I would like to see it maybe implemented. Not sure if you guys would agree with me on this but. Would it be possible to have the tutorial mission segment in the beggining of the game able to pass so you can just go straight to Earth Dock. The only thing I would have to say is that if you havent done it already, you would have to complete it first by at least one of your toons. After that and you have done it, you could simply pass it and go directly to Earth Dock.

SWG has this setup and I really liked it. You had to complete the tutorial at least once and after you could go straight to mos eisly to begin the "legacy" quests ect.

discuss...

Most of Cryptic's games allow this eventually. I think it was done about six months into the lifespan of City of Heroes. Look for it about then.

Took less time in Champions....month and a half as I recall. But seriously, it only take about 15 minutes to do the Tutorial.

Yeah its not long, but when your maken a few toons..i kinda just want to skip the stuff lol.

Well guess time will tell, I do hope they add in the ability to pass it though. As long as if someone new starts and has never made a new as of yet, and does start a new toon they have to complete it first then afterwards on their following toon they can skip it.

But why make it easier for Gold Spammers to create bots by script???

    /sarcasm ON

Dude haven't you heard? The game is doing so badly, and everyone is dropping off so quickly, there's no subscribers left to advertise to.

Nevermind the 5+ messages of spam I get in my forums account and mail box virtually everyday. Because, the truth is, gold spammers and sellers love to make a profit on dying dwindling games.

I hear yah bro, but eather way...theyll get in no matter what. Iam just talking from a real player perspective. It would be nice to pass all of it and just head to ED. Again time will tell if they do implement it or not :p

Like they can't hang out in the mess hall at the start?

They do that too, but at least they can't Spam the general Zone Chat from there...

I only have one alternate (total two characters) and it'd been about two months since I went through on my primary. I didn't mind the tutorial the second time. Frankly, it was kind of fun (the first time through I was too busy actually learning how to play to enjoy the story/adventure. This second time I already knew how to move/fight so I could "enjoy the view" sorta speak.

That said, I could see down the line on my 3rd or 5th character, it becoming a bore.

I'd be for an optional re-run. On your first character you have to take the tutorial, naturally. But on your 2nd+ the system prompts you (or has a by-default-checked-on, but unselectable checkbox on the last new character creation screen) to opt out of the intro mission. That would be cool. Definitely need to keep this as an optional opt-in though too (as some people might need/want the re-train).

The tutorial is a waste of time when starting a new toon other than your very first toon.

We want to allow this at some point - but does require some special work since running through the tutorial sets up several aspects of your character data that you can't just do by starting directly on Earth Spacedock.

It's on our list of nice to have's that we'll get to eventually.

For symmetry's sake, would you be able to start a second character at level 5 and do a quick mission for BOs ala the Klingons?

They can still use the mail function, so if I see anyone standing around in the lobby, I immediately set them to ignore

    Who reads zone chat?
I turned that TRIBBLE off after the 50th Chuck Norris joke I had to endure? To me zone chat is for the kiddies and they can keep it all to themselves.

Correct - When we get to this - it will be very similar to how the Klingons start - in that we need to setup all the initial missions so that you get all the stuff you're supposed to have after the tutorial.

...so you're saying that's not the best place for me to write my first Captain's Log?]

What am I saying -- there's no chance you can actually see me to respond. :)

I say leave the tutorial missions in. If you take out the tutorial missions it would only open the flood gate for more spammers.

I have 7 Feds, counting a couple of experimental characters who haven't left Sol Spacedock since their arrival. At this point, going through the tutorial is essentially automated. It doesn't actually become interesting until the ground mission, and then only because I have to think about which kit power I want and how it'll interact with my intended bridge officer balance.

...yes, given my single Klingon, this means I'm up to eight characters. Yes, I realize I have a problem.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up about it, its not a huge deal but it would be nice when you are leveling an alt to be able to skip the tutorial.

tell me I', not mad? Was there not a period during open beta where we could skip the tutorial after having completed it with another character? I don't think it lasted long but I'm sure I saw the option live once.

Honestly, this is one thing I think would cut down on repetition.

However, why do I have a lingering feeling there's a hidden accolade in the tutorial...?

Is it because this is Cryptic's fourth game to launch where we fight "infected" zombie people who turn back up at endgame and the first two had hidden accolades in the tutorial that had people begging for the ability to go back to the tutorial and farm mobs...?

They have infected zombie people in CO too? LOL. Somebody at Cryptic loves those diseased zombies!

There is an accolade but it doesn't have to necessarily be completed in the tutorial, its killing 100 Borg drones during ground combat which you can do in Engineering during the tutorial.

If it's like City of Heroes/Villains, the tutorial Borg may be a separate accolade... Or it may be exclusively for the ones in the tutorial and Khitomer Accord.

Forgive the pun, but there are OTHA ways to kill 100 drones in game now.

*ponders* It's possiible to get overwhelmed by the Borg in main engineering or by the active probes, especially if you're still figuring out the basics of the game. And anywhere you can come under fire if you really don't have things down or are unfamiliar with games of this style in general. The embarassing number of times I've died in the most n00bishly newbie parts of pre-Searing Ascalon...

The very first time I played the STO Tutorial I think I too was rendered unconscious by the Borg. I didn't know how control my person and I did done died. I paniced at first until I respawned. Heh. Now I play that same character at RA5 Elite mode.

    You are mad...as a hatter! :P

It wasn't there for Closed. Wasn't there for Open.

I am reasonably positive there is no hidden accolade in the Tutorial. I would have heard about it in Closed Beta. I understand Cryptic's history (CoH); the only new one, to my knowledge, would need to be added later...and I don't see that happening.
