I've posted on here how MMO's take time to flesh out. I can't think of one MMO that was ready when it shipped. WoW is the best example I can think of where when it first came out it was like "Content what is that?". Servers were down all the time. The game play was less then solid. It took Blizzard 5 years to get them to the point they are. Cryptic at least from what I have seen is doing not to bad. In fact they are doing a hell of a lot better job when it comes to content then Blizzard. I'm seeing guild look for new players all the time because the content gets so old that people stop playing. At least Cryptic is bring out content pretty fast which is pretty impressive.
The point is I'm a causal player so I will play for a bit and come back because I'm a Guild Master in WoW so it takes up a lot of my time. Each time I come back, Cryptic bring in something that gives me hope that this game is going to turn out pretty good. For example I came back when the difficulty slider was added and I went and did dailies with a group on the highest setting. Dailes went from meh, to WOW this is fun as hell. Fighting the Borg felt like I was fight the Borg. When is happens it makes me goes "hmm I think I will stick around to see what interesting thing Cryptic is going to come up with."
I would agree that where is the game is now is more than likely where it should have been at release but the fact that Cryptic has gotten it here so fast after release is impressive to. It tells me they are working hard to keep STO moving forward. So far I like what has been going on because trust me if I was not having fun I would not spend the money to play it.
I think having missions where the interior of your ship comes into play would be pretty epic. Having a ready room where you can put trophies or customize it the way you want would be awesome too. Like you have to use you science lab to figure out something on a planet. Choosing one of your BOs to be your First Officer would be awesome to.
Random missions would be awesome too. Let me explain my idea. You just at starbase doing your thing when your ship hails you saying you have a message from starfleet and that you need to return to the ship. You beam back to you ship ( this is where the interiors come in.) You are in your ship transporter room you head to the turbolift. (Loading Screen) On your bridge you head to your ready room and answer the hail. Once you recieve the message you find out that it is a random mission ( Could be anything A fleet action where the Borg are attacking, distress call or a ship has gone missing and you are ordered to search for it.) What this would do would put a little unpredictability into the game and make it feel like you are a little more at part of Starfleet or the KDF. You could reward these missions with exploration badges or valor badges depending on the type of mission. You could get a random mission at anytime so it would make playing fun too.
I think STO has so much potential it keeps me hanging on to see what happens next.

This would be a great idea, having random missions. I've seen a few threads suggesting a similar idea. We do need some sweet random missions in this game.
I'll also agree with you that the dev team is working hard and fast to improve STO. I was so happy when 1.1 patch came in and I was able to have a challange and a DP
I agree, but am still disappointed. Most MMO's I have played have had enough content, even at launch, to keep me questing for quite awhile. As well as some kind of alternate game play as a time sink. Even as a casual player, STO doesn't have enough to keep me wanting to login day after day.
I have a LTS, so I will be here for the long hall. But season 2 can not come soon enough. I spend most of my time playing other MMO's while I wait. Iam not willing to play through the same content with an alt until the new stuff from season 2. The Elite play has helped to make the game fun a few times a week. But it is not enough for an MMO.
Very good write up. I agree that a lot was missing at release, but more is being added. I think they have delivered more content since release than any other MMO I have played in that short amount of time.
I think its great a casual player like yourself is having fun, looking to what-could-be, and being optimistic.
I've been pretty happy I don't play to much but enough that when I do it's fun. I really like the random mission idea. I was think making Fleets actually mean something would be nice. Having Fleet actions where only or fleet was there would be great. Fleet starbases would be awesome. Is there any info on what is going to be in Season 2?
