Questin about the demo

I'm curious about the demo. I'd say that most players tend to agree that the early gameplay to get to Lt is incredbly boring and monotonous. The game gets significant better between Lt C and Captain.

If the demo is meant to provide a "taste," new players should be given a good taste, not a boring grind fest. Will the demo have more than the ginding before the good parts of the game?

Cryptic, if you think that the demo will help to bring in new customers, then why don't you beef up the content and fun of the initial game?

The content at the beginning of the game is the same as the content in the middle or end. Yes, there's some ST geek moments like the Gateway mission scattered in the game but ultimately whether Lt 4, Capt 4, or RA4 you're still doing the same patrols, DSEs, Explroration, and Episodes. Saving the Azuria and escorting the Vulcan ambassador are no less exciting then defeating Obrien or saving a Bajorian orb. Ultimately what people consider to be fun or boring is subjective to the individual and there's no way to not hit or miss that.

Trial accounts are generally very limited in what they have access to - primarily the "tutorial" zones. Similar to Champs (where you only have access to the initial crisis zone) - STO trial accounts will have access to the Tutorial where they get their first bridge officer, leveling up to 2 at earth spacedock where they get and customize their first ship, and running the first Episode to rescue the Azura. If a player upgrades their account to a full retail account - they can then continue on right where they are since the trial accounts are "real" accounts (ie they are not a sandbox fake account - they are real accounts with restrictions)

I don't think it'll matter much. People who play MMOs are used to lower levels being fairly simplistic. I think it's just a little more pronounced with STO because your major increases in power only come every 10 levels with a new ship, and most players will understand that.

I wonder what the level cap / restrictions on the demo will be? Most games just give you a timed trial, but with STO I could see someone making RA5 before it expired and not even bothering to buy the game...

EDIT: Nevermind, dstahl just answered by questions. :)

Cant realy agree with the statement that the beginning is boring.

For us who we have played it like 3 times minimum now it is boring because... well we have seen it all 3 times now and the 4th time is not going to be any diffrent.

But for a new player.... the tutorial is short and flashy, you get into missions FAST.
You dont have to kill Bores, Giant Spiders and Wolfs for the first 10 hours. No you get to kill a BORG Cube before you even get the chance to ask "Where's Sulu" when you run in circles through SB01.

First time in Open Beta i had lots of Fun.

...now after 3 times starting the next Char it's more like *ugh* AGAIN Miranda Class?... oh there is that stupid talking Patrol mission that i do not need to read anymore because i still know all the right answers from the last time i did it....

but i suggest to place a Fleetaction at the end of the Demo, Starbase 24 maybe?
    Crystaline Entity? XDDD
only to show off the "MMO Part" of the game a little.

You may be getting your demos/welcome back weekends confused.

Trial accounts will be offered at any time and allow players to "demo" the game by downloading and playing the Tutorial and Azura.. There is no time limit on this and (as far as I know) it will be available all the time - kind of like an XBOX 360 downloadable demo for lack of a better anology.

Welcome Back Weekends are where players who have an account, but not an active subscription, can log in and play their account for the weekend as if their account was active. There are no restrictions on what they can do.

Trial accounts can only communicate with friends and are very limited in what they can do to prevent spam bots.
