Coming from other MMORPGs I'm used to armour, weapons, my haircut, giving me bonus stats or passive regen that is low enough to keep it useful only out of combat. However, in STO the bonus stats are quite simply pathetic and beggar belief. I don't have a lot of examples to hand but a few that more than back up what I say.
The other day on a B'Tran daily I was doing a ground mission and picked up an uncommon armour piece with shield regen and I hadn't seen any body armour with that stat before so I looked to see what the regen was. 12 shield every 4 seconds...... are you kidding me? One shot from even a Normal difficulty NPC will take off a good 60 shield and you rarely find them alone. Elite difficulty can see you lose all your shields (520hp shields) and some health in one shot if you're unfortunate. So we have armour like this that will regen 3hp shields every second while the NPCs are dishing out crazy damage in comparison to the regen.
Please note, I'm not saying I want stat giving items or regen items to be so powerful that I can stand there indefinitely and rely on it but 3hp a second for a Mk X uncommon item is sorely lacking. Even a Mk I common piece of armour would struggle to consider that worthwhile.
The next example is the much loved (and equally hated) Tribble buffs. I have one on one of my characters that gives a health regeneration bonus. The bonus is 0.002hp/sec. I might be remembering incorrectly, it could be as high as 0.02hp/sec. but I trust the point is made. The damage buff and damage resist buffs they give aren't listed in numbers that I can see from mouse over but that might be due to them being so insignificant. The Borg Tribble, what does it do in regards to damage resist vs Borg? I can't say I've ever noticed it do anything that would be classed as helpful. I imagine this is due to, in part, the fact that not everyone has them.
Has anyone else got any examples of pathetic stats and buffs on equipment?
