Now I know that this isnt here yet, but does a friend that you got to the game before they started offering the rewards count?

Yeah, I already referred a friend, and they are still playing.

I'll take my holographic crewmember now, please.

No one knows, we would need a Cryptic reply. I would say the answer is most probably not but again, no one knows. You could always open a ticket but I don't think that it would belong there...

I feel that if you brought a friend over, and can prove it, that they really should maybe give you the first gift because you're obviously a loyal customer and working to bring people to the game.

how would you prove it? Get a friend to "testify" that you referred them without any actual evidence?

Thats just going to open the door for people to start coluding with one another to obtain rewards erroneously.

I think its highly unlikely they will allow that. Sorry.

    i would, most likely, say YES the buddy key you get is a unique digit tied to the account you got the buddy key from, it's not very hard to follow the paper trail back to your account. that's what the buddy key was originally for anyway >_>;

The OP doesn't specifically mention buddy keys. Fair enough if they are tracable, I but I don't expect "hey, I suggested XXXX player check out the game and he did and now he's subbed - give me my Galaxy - X" requests will be honored.

    Hey All,

The referral program only applies to referrals that are conducted through the new referral technology we have set up. I apologize that, due to technical limitations, we are unable to provide retroactive referral bonuses for any referrals that occurred outside of this system.

    Oh, dear.

Destra... I do not envy you having to make this announcement. :(

Okay, everyone? Let's not kill the messenger here. Destra was given the really unpleasant job of reporting this to us, and it's not their fault. Please no verbal assault on the lead GM, 'kay?

I'm... going to go find a bunker. :(

To be fair, every MMO that ever did a recruitment program was unable to make them retroactive, to my knowledge.

    Warcraft had the same limitations.

If your friend has bought a copy and not used the CD key, they can wait until the referral program goes live.

Otherwise, there's no way to track this kind of referral.

It kinda sucks how useless it makes the Collector's Edition trial cards, though.

When does this new referral system go live?
I am cutting up my last Collector's Edition Referral Card since it will only TRIBBLE me over now.

Ouch... I hope you're ready (Cryptic, that is) for the fallout of this one. This may be the straw that broke the targ's back.

Anyone else think it's funny they need to bribe players to get them to get their friends to play?

Honestly I'd feel guilty introducing anyone to this game. Sad, but true.

Right, no one ever does referral bonuses.

Next thing you will know, employers and apartment communities will start doing it too. ;)

Whole point of a referral programs is to get more people to sign up, they don't get anything for you getting people already paying into their system. Hence much as most of us would like and probably actually did refer, they probably don't give a to implement a retroactive system same as just about every single referal system.

    Hey GM_Destra.

I’m personally sad to hear that, since I have already “recruited” two people to join the game. I know your system doesn’t work with the other system, but how about you make it work or some other way arrange people to get “credit” for the people they already have recruited.

For example, I got one friend to play, buy and pay for the game and playtime through my Collectors Edition “Friends trail” card. Now I have the card still and the code he used from it, so I could in theory easily point out his @handler and what code he used for starting the trail. So that would be one way to do those.

Now onto the other friends that I used your “Buddy Codes” where we got a code from the website by selecting that service and then it send of a code to me that I then forwarded to him, whereas he also played, bought and played for subscription time. Once again I can point you to his @handler and also provide the code he started the trail on.

So both these ways we could prove to have recruited people already through your own options/services.

I know your system wasn’t made for retroactive perspective, but that does not mean that it cannot be altered for it to work in the fairness of people recruiting friends early so that we can have a wider player basis.

So I personally would really appreciate if you would be as kind and take this up with whomever it might concern.

    Kind Regards
    Adfectio

Really? I'd say anyone genuinely expecting them to honour previous referrals was being a little naiive.

Most posters I have seen are annoyed they are going to miss the referal rewards because they already convinced their friends to check the game out. This suggests those people were already aware and expecting that referals that happened before the rollout of the RAF programe would not count.

I doubt official confirmation of this will cause the riot you are expecting - as most people already anticipated that this would be the case.

Cryptic will have a record of the buddy key generated for me as a paying customer. They will also have a record of that buddy key being used by my friend. likewise, they will have a record of that same friend upgrading the trial to a paid account, and is still playing.

Its really quite simple, if I get screwed out of the reward then I surely wont recruit any more friends. If Cryptic does the right thing, and rewards me for my efforts then I will be highly motivated to recruit more friends.

Well, then you can forget about me recruiting any more friends. In fact, I will now recommend that any potential referrals will be to other games not made by Cryptic.

Seriously, how friggin hard is it for you to confirm the buddy key YOU generated for my account, as well as that key being upgraded to a paid subscription?

Once again, Cryptic proves incapable of making the right decisions.

If it's a 'techinical limitation' then it sucks.

If (as people have already alluded to) it is a business decision hiding behind a 'technical limitation' then I understand but don't like the way it's being spun at all.

Here is a novel idea. If your system cannot support something then you do not implement it. Did they think that would not be issue afterwards? Then again I find common sense being utterly absent with everything and anything they done so far. Perhaps a better idea would be to offer free time as an incentive and leave the Galaxy X for a different promotion which would solve the problem.

I seen many Devs and defenders making passing jokes on this analogy but what they fail to mantion is that the reasons people complain are hardly imaginery or misguided. There is a distinct difference between the witchhunt in those days and the blatantly obvious blunders on their "marketing" efforts. I think most people acknoweledge the fact that the Devs are merely outlets of such decisons, but they equally present the only point to direct any concerns. If they choose to take it personally then its realy their own failing.

What difference does it make what the reward is as to whether they should implement it?

I'd say the conspicuous absence of the word exclusive from the Galaxy X (a word they already use lightly) means that they may have different ways to get this although I think the reality is the Galaxy X, special powers or no, will be outdated in less than 12 months, and that any other way of getting it would be an alternative marketing/recruitment program.

Dev statements already say it is exclusive.to this offer. I believe one of the other threads has a collection of their replies where it is stated as such. As for the 12 months, these little heists alienate more people then they bring in and its already starting to show. Soon enough there will be only one thing they can do with their offers, and I hear its unpleasant...

Why is everyone so greedy that they have to have every item?
The deal hadn't started yet when you recruited other people get over it. If a store has a sale and you missed it they are not going to give you the special price just because you want them too. I can't believe the level of entitlement people have

I already recuited three friends using the guest passes from my collectors edition.
I already recruited another one using the trial key from the homepage.

That's four players all still playing and supporting your game.

    And now you tell me:
Sorry, we cann't associate these trial keys to your account. Bad luck. Goodbye.

So, if I ever buy another Cryptic game - what I doubt since this referral program was announced - I'll remember NOT to do any promotion and recruitment for you until some months passed by. You managed to cheat me once. Only idiots get cheated twice...

That's the point. Why isn't it on the record? Referencing the generated keys within the database to the used retail account is done within 15 minutes for a good Oracle or SQL admin.

And a company like Cryptic just forgot to implent these lousy three lines of code within their account management?

And there are no log files on their account server?
