Patched client

Continually recieve the message "Your account does not have permission to access Star Trek Online at this time."

Searched support and Forums for information on demo accounts and client, nothing.
Created Support ticket
Got impatient
Made forum post :)

-Do i need to have my account validated?
-Is there only a certain ammount of demo accounts allowed on the server at any given time?
-Is there some other issue preventing me from logging in?

I don't think the open Demo starts till Friday at 10 am. I could be wrong though. At least you get that far, my client crashes on the loading screen every time with a "cryptic oops" error.

    http://www.atari.com/games/startrek_online_digital_deluxe_ed/download

That's where i found the demo while looking for pricing on STO. If the demo's not active until friday you'd think there would be some sort of info with the download. Can't seem to see any but i'm not the most observant person in the world :(

The downlaod is the full client download and people can download it any time. (specially those that need to reinstall and lost thier dvd)
Usually demo are set by a special account activation identifing your account as a demo.

Because since you can go full time by buying the game you will not need to redownload to play just enter to your account the retail game code, subscription play and payment method.

Why i say this is that the first demo copy i tried to install unlocked my old Open Beta Client and then it dint find my name and PW on server to log in so it listed the other Cryptic game i had in the Shard List.

So I del the desktop badge and started fresh.. Then i had to move folders out of the cryptic programme file area cause it would not D/L the Demo installer cause it saw the Beta one.. so the dog chased its own tail until i started from the Cryptic MAcro on promotions page and grabbed the installer again.. its very very slow

The Problem is they are having that Free Trial Week End 7-10th for people that used to play or have a retail key they did not activate a Sub on.

They want customers back and are trying to support everybody.. Demands good so the limited server support is exposing the kink in the armour. Something that can be reviewed and corrected.
I remember seeing 10,000 people waiting at FilePlanet to get the Open Beta Client and D/L it took me 1.5 days to get the file for the limited week of Open Beta.. then the last weekend they were updating the shared accounts server and many people lost access .. Growing pains..

I liked what i saw in part of Beta but lost 50% of my time there to server support issues so i was egar to come back this path to take another look. so its frustrating.

I'm really quite annoyed by this. I spent all night downloading *8gigs* of demo, only to be told that I "Don't have access at this time".

    Sort it out people.

Also - 8gigs is a horrendous size demo - Yes it means if you like the game and want to active it you have it, but most people aren't going to bother downloading a full 8gigs of demo when they'll probably only experience 1-2gigs for the demo.

    Switch on Cryptic.

It aint working. I have tryed to login about 3 times today allways get the error the iam not allowed.
I mean what the hell were developers thinking of releasing a demo just now all games come whit a demo
before they are released not 3 months after they are out.

Who the **** is stupid enough to go buy a game whitout trying it out. 3 months of w8ing for a demo
and then you get so many restrictions you cant even test the game out what a load of TRIBBLE.

Actually I'd like to correct you on that. Having a demo may be standard in singleplayer games (or at least it used to be), but that's certainly not the case with MMO's.

In fact it's standard procedure NOT to have an unrestricted trial in the first months after release because it brings with it all sorts of issues (not the least being goldspammers). Some MMO's don't even have a free trial until up to a year after the release date (WoW, WAR, AoC, LOTRO, Aion to name a few big ones). Until that time there's sometimes a referral-type system in place and often it's not hard to get hold of a buddy key through forums or fansites.

As for the restrictions, I suggest waiting til the friend referral system is up and running and then ask someone here to refer you or pick up one of the keys people will likely start posting on the forums.

The regular demo is ridiculously restricted, but with a friend referral you can usually get a much better impression of the game (at least that's how it is in CO). Or if someone's still got one of the original 5-day buddy keys left those ARE actually unrestricted trials with no level-cap or zone-restrictions, so you can play as much of the game as you like in 5 days.

But that said it had demand that far exceeded the ability to physically support Down Loading that Open Beta Client.. People waited days. Of Course they had Down Loaded partners..

like File Planet a great group that i have been a member of forever.. But they weren't Cryptic or Atari.. So no ownership means they had little knowledge or control over the product.. I logged in days in advance and found liens as long as 10,000 people Queued for the unpaid Down load Manager.. When I received the file it was corrupted and needed replacing via the STO patch sever that cost me another day.. Then on the last week end of Open Beta they were doing account server management at Cryptic to ready for Early in week.. Scores of people that had Cryptics other Live product like myself were denied access by this shared accounts server sniff.. That was only solved via a work around patch on the last day of Beta..

Meaning another 1.5 days lost.. I was able to patch their mistake after the clock was turned off. A CSR had promised a 7 hour extension of the Open Beta that never happen.

The Download demand for this Free Trial Weekend is messing up the attempts to get the DEmo.. Two different things. Ive been logged on top the D/L for over 4 hours and its gone from 39% to 50.69 in that period of time.. The Ping to Cryptic accounts server made it impossible to log into the game I'm paying them for Champions on-line.

I remember playing wow 14day trial about a week after it was released same goes for Aion tho aion had a pretty big open beta. As far as LOTRO goes that game is so bad i wouldnt even play it if it was free.

Trial has se follow every game single or mmo's especialy when we are talking about such title as star trek,
iam an eve player iv been waiting for this game to be released for 5 years now ever since i first saw the
ad for it on offical star trek website. In eve there is about 100 people that i know from my alliance that we
talked on forums on moving to / or starting to play star trek and the fact it didnt have a trial at the begining nor
did we get a chance at beta was a quite a big deal for all. Its just plain stupid to go buy a game before trying
    it out.

And i didnt say you need to put a unrestricted demo but the main thing people that want to move from other space mmos is to try space combat not runing around doing crapy starter missions.

Also when PC Gamer gives you 6.0 and IGN 6.8 you know something has to be wrong. And if you watch IGN review video one of the main reasons for low rating was the fact that sto does not offer a demo.

And when you are bringing something on market that has this big of commpetition you just cant afford not
    to have somekind of trial.

Very dissapointing i hope today if demo will trully start at 10am that game wil pay off the 5 year wait.

It's past 10am PST and still no login...

Also, gotta agree with others, whether it's standard practice or not, free trials and demos, ESPECIALLY for games where a monthly subscription is required as well as an initial purchase should be all-but mandatory. You can't rent an MMO from gamefly (or any PC game for that matter) and the choices should never just be 'buy or don't' - there should always be a 'try it free' option (with limitations of course).

Downloaded the demo installer last night, fired it up today and getting nowhere. "Account error, please contact Billing support" in the bottom left, "SERVER DOWN" in the top right, clicking "Patch" does nothing.

Pretty impressed with the game so far
