Character profiles on website can now be hidden

Hey all, FYI the character profiles on the website can now be hidden. You can do so by logging in clicking on my characters. Each character will have a link to hide that character.

Cheers,
Diamonds

I know I already thanked you privately on this when I noticed it earlier, but thanks again! Much appreciated. :)

What would someone be doing on STO that they would need to hide? Gold Spammers spammed before and they will continue again (if that is what concerns you).

Can't hide your main character. You have to have one that isn't hidden.

But what if I don't know who your characters are?

Ok, so I have the page open in another window. And all my dooders are there. Staring at me. And I remember a few weeks ago when they were all blank. And I kind of like that they're all there. And don't want to hide them.

So I thank you for providing this feature. Maybe I'll use it at a later date. For now I'm just gonna be happy I can see all my guys instead of the big N/A letters that were there before.

    :)

I used to keep all my Champions characters hidden. I was reclusive. And there were a lot of very very report happy people in that game in terms of anything being even remotely derivative.

In Star Trek ... I'm ok with people seeing Admiral Estebano just finished a B'Tran daily in his captain's log. Laugh at me all you'd like. ;)

It's not a "what do I need to hide" issue. For some people, it's simply a "I don't see why the whole world needs to see everything" issue. Anyway, how does it harm you if I don't want my characters visible?

It doesn't. I'm glad they added the feature. I remember in Champions I was pretty reclusive. And didn't want people to see my characters.

I'm ok with people seeing my characters here. But I totally understand the desire to want to keep that to yourself. Go for it.

    :)

This goes along with the "Why isn't everything soloable" category. There are lots of single player games out there if your feeling reclusive that don't require a monthly fee. This is an MMO. I have no problem if people want to keep there character from being searched and found (all though I really think thats silly unless you have a friend you don't like:)). But if I see you at the base and want to know what rank you are what's the harm.

If you see someone on the starbase and you want to know what rank they are, you can just click on them. You do not need to look them up on the Captain's Database for this info.

Exactly. I don't exactly like that showing my characters, my BOFFS, even logs of every mission I've done being put out there for all the world to see without my permission.

At least they are adding an opt out option, but this thing should have been opt IN from the get go.

They should have done this in the manner that CCP did with EVE's API system. In EVE, you have two API "keys" for your account, a limited one (that shows only basic information, your skills, your name, your amount of credits, etc) and an unlimited one that will show your inventory of everything you own, where it all is, and everything accessible about your corporation that your roles grant.

The limited key is safe to give out (and allows for awesome 3rd party apps to be made), the other one, not so much.
