So we voted on what we would like to see with interiors right, and people are voting on all types of things.
Now after watching a TNG EP last night, I got an idea. The EP was about this out of phase parasite that was sucking peptide from the crew, and only Commander data was getting clues about them. Where they came from was a wore out warp coil.
Now this could open the door to a ton of things with interiors if you think about it. From parts in the ship wearing out, to things getting on the ship from missions you do, or upgrades you pick up. Hey if your buying equipment off that non-faction vendor, maybe you will get more than what you bargained for.
So what I am saying why not have ship parts wear out, and we have to maintain them or replace them. No matter if you get upgrades, or replacement parts. We should have wear and tear be apart of your ships life.
And why shouldn't we have missions popup from time to time, depending on where you got your parts from.
I wouldn't mind missions like this, something happens, your crew has to figure out what is wrong, etc. As for actual parts on the ship wearing down, I don't care for it too much. Don't get me wrong, it would be hilarious for a huge pile of goo to be replicated instead of tea, but it is not something I'd really care for. Like I said random missions with stuff like stuff from that episode you just mentioned would be fine by me, as long as it doesn't affect ship performance.
EDIT:
Your idea is similar to the Death Penalty being used right now. When your ship is destroyed a system is damaged and needs to be repaired using either components or going to a major space station.
If what are you suggesting is actually something Cryptic wants to do then I would add on that you can designate officers to fix through some window so you don't have to go on your ship every single time.
im all for being able to customize your interiors and upgrade things. Im also happy to see missions inside your ships and being linked to the items you aquire
i cant say im found of wear and tear in games so id give that a skip
Again the wear and tear comes from the replacement coil, and in turn it spawned an event on the Enterprise that had to get fixed. So the Wear and tear doesn't have to be something is a bad thing, just something that keeps your ship running at top performance.
And along the way, made that part you pickup from the Ferengi merchant has something extra, then it starts a mission within your ship.

Like I said this idea comes from TNG, and if done right can open more mission arcs for you.
