Just wanted to say that I love the fact that the Federation economy is in recession due to the changes to the exchange. It's amazing what a difference a simple feature like "sort by price" can do to an economy.
Thanks to that and a few other changes the prices of most items has fallen by about half across the board because the market is becomming more competitive.

...yeah... but a lot of the stuff i would want to put on the exchange (mostly green and blue stuff) is allready avaible for less then what the replicator gives me for it, at least that's how i feel.
it's true some items have now come down below the minimal resale price to an NPC vendor but that only shows that the estimated value of an item by the computer is inflated compared to the actual quantity being looted in game.
This is alright considering that the estimated value of some other items is too low considering the chances for them to drop. So while an item thats' 7k may drop so much that it's selling for 3,400 which is less than half because it drops so much, you've also got some things like type X phasers which are estimated to be worth about 20k selling for 100k, because they drop less often and are in high demand. It's all good.
The estimated value is really there just to give you an idea of how much you can make off an item if you sell to an NPC vendor, not really what the actual supply/demand curve would dictate.
Prices have gone down, but I suspect I can make more money now than ever before - since stuff is actually affordable for people! (and they see the stuff that I put up weeks ago that were already set to fair prices... Though I should probably revisit a few items now that the prices become more reasonable.)
I've actually made credits recently by finding the lowest priced items, then finding out what vendors will pay. When vendors pay more, I buy and sell to them!

Yeah. I did that a bit too. Even before the exchange changes.

Correction:
For a "recession" to occur the game would have had to have two successive economic cycles of slow performance. An economic cycle is one quarter. One quarter is three months. For a recession to occur, inflation would have to be low, and business profit would have to be low as well.
The game was in a state of inflation. Business profit was high because a significant amount for people had significant amounts of cash. Because enough people were willing to pay extremely high cost to obtain a good, then inflation would be the only result.
Yeah. I did that a bit too. Even before the exchange changes.
Some stuff is just sooooo common. Heh.
I would not suggest this as a solution. My buying and selling policy is this:
I list an item on the exchange for one week. If the item has not sold in that time, I take it off and sell it to the vendor for whatever price the vendor gives. I list all exchange prices at the suggested value price. If you craft and item and then post it, that will yield around 26% profit margin. Which is about 357 credits in most cases.
Items that I find as loot that I retail on the exchange usually sell for 100 percent profit if I list them at the value price.
I list all anomalies at 100 credits each, so a stack of 50 would be 5,000 credits.
When I say I did that, I meant ... I found the item being sold for less than half its value. I bought it. I walked it over to a vendor in requisitions. And sold it. And kept the profit.
It's much much much easier to see people posting items for less than what a vendor would give them now, since the exchange sorts by price.
It was still pretty easy to find them before though. Like fishing. It was almost a mini-game.
another useful strategy that i have employed is the reselling of items to gain profit. It's a risky venture sometimes but if you know what items to look for it can be very profitable. Hate to sound like a Ferengi.
Basically find an item that only has about five or six items listed and see if there are one or two items that are dramatically lower than the others. Then buy those items and price them accordingly.
I did this with some type IX phasers. There were 8 listed with the uncommon features, all but two of them were priced at 350k and over. The other two were at 25 and 40k. So i bought those two and repriced them at 100k. Within 24 hours they both sold and I made out like a bandit just for buying and reselling.

I to love this option
And that's why you sell more. Before your stuff was placed on page 17
changes are great
My sales are worse now.
Not that i would care.

Was nice.
Now, if someone would just buy my reasonably priced consoles, I'd be ready to purchase the Advanced Escort - the only one I've been reluctant to buy.
