I have one main problem with the C-Store. I understand Cryptic is avoiding adding things that will affect gameplay and only adding cosmetic upgrades (except things like skill retraining) but I must say that for a game we already pay a subscription for I get annoyed when I see new races/bridges/ships offered in the C-store but not just in game for 'free' as part of our subscriptions.
I am not suggesting here to stop the C-store items, just give more dev time to regular content i.e. if you add a bridge pack to the C-store, there should be new bridges (different ones) available in game to everyone for energy credits as well. It is just annoying when it looks like dev time is going to add things to the game that in a subscription based MMO our monthly fees should cover.
First there were subscription mmos.
Then came free to play mmos with in-game stores for real money.
Both were huge successes. Then somebody had the brilliant idea to combine the two! Pay to play, and pay for items!
Companies like Blizzard recieve a licence to print money. Now everybody's in on it.
Don't expect it to change, unless they find another way to fleece even more money from us.
Oh wait Cryptic are the ones who invented "premium" zones aren't they? Granted, they backpeddled in Champions but who knows...
Merely because something is often repeated doesn't make it irrelevant.
The c-store isn't entirely objectionable in concept and there are certain things that perhaps should be paid for - like preorder "exclusives", the MU uniform, etc.
However Cryptic are jamming in a lot of irrelevant stuff while neglecting actual content.
They new ship skins for example should be free.
My take on it was different than most I found with the search, I am not entirely against the concept in general, I just feel they need to release more in game content when they release new paid content.
