I recently made a depressing discovery that has me considering deleting my recent Rear Admiral.
First, the problem begins with the fact that you can't have more than 8 ships. Thus, if you want to try out some of the variety there is in the game, you have to delete some of the ships you already have.
So, wanting to try out the Star Cruisers and Assault Cruisers, I deleted my Centaur Light Cruiser. It was called USS PATTON, and in the history of the character, was one of the more significant of his commands. Thus, it had some nostalgic value. However, it was the lowest ranked ship, and I reasoned that it would be the cheapest to replace since I would be replacing it one I had tried some of the other vessels, and there was no point in throwing away more money than necessary, it would be the logical choice to delete.
However, to my suprise and dismay, I found that I couldn't replace it when I went to the store to do so. They're not for sale! Further still, I was informed that there is no way for a GM to replace it for me.
As I say, it's all rather distressing to me. Moreover, I'm forced to wonder what would happen if I accidentally deleted my Constitution Class ship (the TOS version). There's nowhere to buy that, either.
Thus, I suggest and request that the Miranda/Centaur/Shikar Frigates be made available for purchase in the shipyard. I further suggest that the GMs be given the tools to replace ships (such as the TOS Connie) lost by accident or negligence. Finally I also suggest allowing us more ship slots.
1: Sure why not. Add the starter ship to the store. (in game shipyard that is)
2: You can reclaim the Connie if you delete it. (which is how some people have a T5 full of blue phasers)
I don't know why they haven't added this. It should be the simplest update in the world.
We should obviously be able to repurchase light cruisers. And we ought to be able to purchase extra ship slots too through the C-Store. I understand the need to cut down on data storage, but to lock it off and not allow us to expand it is just bogus.
Cryptic, please add the option to purchase a Light Cruiser from the Shipyard.
To others in the same situation, I'd suggest doing what I did. I blew away my T1 ships since those were the cheapest to replace (20,500 each) and since the Light Cruiser cannot be replaced. If I have to get rid of more, the next will be the T2 ships, the next cheapest to replace.
I've never tried this but maybe you can. Create a new character and play until it gets a tier 2 ship. Then try sending your miranada to your RA5 character. I'm not sure if you can send ships (I doubt it) but its worth a try.
You can always send Cryptic a message asking them to give it to you again. Since it doesn't give you an advantage they might give it to you.

You can delete and retake your Connie as many times as you wish. That's how many of us get enough blue phasers to stock our higher-tier ships all in the same color.

Is it worth it to do so, though?
I mean, do they actually do enough damage when you're facing enemies at RA5?
If yes, it's time to start deleting and recreating for me. LOL
If only the Connie's blue phasers came with the ToS phaser sound effect...

I don't know if they're as good as Mk-X phasers, since I don't have them... but my understanding is that they do scale with your level, so they're at least viable.

I know this is unrelated to the post, but how do you go about sending items between characters?
I have an RA5 Tac Off and have just reached Commander 2 with my new Sci Off. I have a couple of consoles that I would like to transfer from the RA5 to the Cdr2. I have heard it is possible, but have not really invested the time to figure it out.

Many starbases have mail-terminals. Some are located near banks (as in Sol base) and others are not (so you have to put items into inventory and then head over to a mail-terminal).
You then click on the terminal, drag-drop 5 items in the proper slots and address the mail to your chosen character. Like "Fred@800lbGorilla"; it should tell you this when you first click on the mail-terminal.

They're about equivalent to MK IXs, so they're like Uncommon Mk IXs. I don't mind losing a few extra points of damage - especially since I didn't have to waste Skill Points to upgrade to other Beam type Skills as I progressed.
Now with Tier 2 ships and above, there are functional differences between the ship classes, and users may become 'curious' on what the other ships are like, so they are offered for 'sale' in the shipyard... But the Tier 1 ships represent a single 'class' with exactly the same functionality. (The 'Connie' doesn't count, because it does have that 2nd Engineering Console device slot...) So why would you want to have more then one??? (Unless you did something stupid like delete the original... )
Maybe Cryptic should fix it so that you can't delete your original ship... (but then you couldn't clear that slot for a bigger ship. The lesser of two evils???)

200 Days: FREE Extra Ship Slot.
So if there is a FREE one there will be more on the C-Store.
No need to throw away your ships if you dont want to.
And next time you throw something away that you want back...
make sure that you CAN get it back BEFORE -> common sense
Deleting an RA5 because you want your Miranda back? lol...?

I think most go for the color rather than the damage.
But yes, some old-style sound effects for those phasers would be nice.

do they look any different to Tetryon weapons, though? aren't those blue too?
