There any way to get the demo quicker? The speed is abysmal. Also is the demo downloader a stealth BitTorrent client? Even though it isn't getting much down speed it seems to be clogging up my bandwidth.
i had to cancel and retry as many times to get a fast connection as i did for the open beta version thru fileplanet.. The Atari server was not holding a very good rate.. for a high speed DSL connection.
Keep trying and it gets better. .also it remembers where you left off..
I just wish it was for the free trial weekend and unlimited [with in reason] access programme to really see this product in the best light with friends from Beta
ok i take that back its slowed to dial -up speed again.. first time i tried had a dynamic link error on a file it could not find on server.. for the open beta it was bad piggs hoggs files that were corrupted on the server
and had to d/l 10g of then all over again jsut to get it to work.. then at the end the account client server shared with champions on the last weekend.. its growing pains.. until Coderanger fidns out and saves the day..
Same here thought I try the demo out and started my download about 10:20am this morning UK time. Its now 22:23pm and only got 13.98% of the 9gb download. Current rate is now down to 7.5kb/s where this morning was coming down at 70kb/s.
Is there no other option to get hold of the demo faster? At this rate I thinking I can be bothered.
yay the torrents really for the Trial model for people that had a retail copy.. i received my open beta that way.
but the link dint work for me so i had to resort back to the Cryptic Link on promotions for demo the Atari one was too slow day one to help me in a timely manner.. At 54.5% of DL now..
ping to the Accounts server and web site forums is very good now.. But the patch client serves still quite slow. at least I'll have Sunday til early Monday for this.. But Ive been logged on the the patch over 4hours for 55.1% now of it.. The Demo file at a reasonable speed should have been set up at least a week in advance of the Weekend to accommodate the numbers that have hit the server and spread it out a bit.
I clicked on the provided link, and it says "thank you for activating your demo account, etc..."
But where does it provide a 'demo key' or some way of accessing the game?
No key is necessary. Once activated the "key" is automatically added to your Cryptic account.
If you open the My Account link from the STO home page you should see Star Trek Online Demo - Cryptic Studios listed in your activated features. If it is there, which it should be after the thank you for activating text, open the client, login with your Cryptic account, patch, and play.
Your account does not qualify for the demo. This is what i get. And there is just no info to find on the forums. Where you get a demo key
This usually means you clicked the link twice and it is already activated. There is no distinct key, it is automatically applied to your account when you click the activation link. You can always check your list of activated features and verify it shows Star Trek Online Demo - Cryptic Studios.
If it's there, then login using the client, patch, and play.
Another note: I believe the demo requires that you have never activated a retail key on your account so that could also lead to this issue if you happen to already have played retail. (Don't know why you would want to replay the tutorial and first mission over and over in that case though. )

Had to log at 39 % due to lightning in the area last eve.. now at 40 so if it takes 30 min to get 1% that's poor
as My ISP connection is 11/mbps right now. It must come down to the server capacity on the Cryptic MAcro link end [the atari one was slower by a few]
Are the devs here total morons?
The full game is hosted all over, why didn't they just code in a restricted demo account activation code and post it and not worry about bandwidth.
/facepalm
