So I am a lifetime subscriber. I currently waste my time with Evony or Facebook. I every so often launch the client so I can have it patched. I read the release notes and I think God Why did I spend that money. This game seriously disappoints me. I login as a Starfleet and man there is so much content. I complete my Starfleet person and login as a Klingon. I spin my wheels in PVP and the very few PVM missions available. When I am a Klingon I look at the HUGE map and think man wouldn't it be cool to fly thru the entire galaxy in my bird of prey. Yet I am stuck in the looking glass.
In every game that is online today when you play different factions you aren't limited to certains areas of space or land. I again find myself thinking how I would enjoy warping over to Starfleet Headquarters with my Bird Of Prey and trying to blow up the ships.
I also find myself thinking how I would enjoy being able to warp over to Klingon Space with my ship and blow up Kronos or try to. How I would enjoy beeaming down to the planet if I could get close enough to and run thru the city with others chasing me and getting killed.
The game is so locked up and so controlled it feels more like a prison then a game. Gene Roddenberry is probably spinning in his grave. Opps correct that his ashes are in space and probably about to go into Warp 10 over this mockery of Star Trek.
I am very frustrated over this game. For those who will respond and say don't let the door hit you on the way out. Sadly I am stuck here in a temporal time loop because I paid for lifetime. This is just sad.
I usually play every night, not always. I play between 2 and 4 hours a night. Unless on PS3 or watching something epic on Directv. STO does take up more time than my other activities.
agree with you OP that the overall game was a let down. I expected a lot more, but knew what we would get and still purchased the LTS. Mainly because I know how MMO's grow over the years and I took a chance that this may one day become ST like.
I still play, and am happy with the new Elite level of game play. The game is much more enjoyable for me now. But it is a long way from being bot an MMO and a ST game. Season 2 will help, but it may Noe be till an expansion that we get any type of real exploration and a ST experiance, if ever.
I sub to 2 other game at the moment, so I play those when I get board. I work 6 days a week, so like now, I read and post from work and play the STO forum game. I can do that knowing that my sub is paid for and can play as long as STO still has servers. So I have a lot of patience and will wait and see what happens.

You do know what motivated Gener Roddenberry to create Star Trek, don't you?
MONEY!
He had to pay his bills, his taxes and buy food for his family the same way everyone else did back then...
Why was STO created?
MONEY!
Because the folks at Cryptic have bills and taxes to pay and food to buy for their families The same way everyone STILL has to...
I loved James Cromwell's lines in Star Trek: First Contact:
"You wanna know what my vision is? DOLLAR SIGNS... MONEY! I don't even like to fly. I take TRAINS! I didn't build this ship to usher in a new era for humanity. I built this ship so that I can retire to some tropical island filled with naked women..."
Honestly I haven't played more than a single mission in several weeks. Just kinda lost it's shine for me. I think it was the last bug I ran into that did it for me. The same bug keeps happening over and over. The one where your beam from your weapon is stuck to you, so that no matter what you do or where you go it is still tethered to you, even when you put away your weapon. The last time it happened it locked me in place about 90% of the way through a long mission. Froze up the mission right there so about an hour and a half of my time just *poof* gone. The pretty much ended it for me (it was like the 10th time something like that has happened). So yeah, I exited the game and haven't played again for almost a month. Just don't have the heart to deal with it anymore...
So much potential... wasted on bugs and butchered canon. It'll get better I keep telling myself, but I don't have a clue as to when that will be.
When the game is finally Star Trek and not "let's kill everything in sight, between show-stopping bugs" I will play it like I used to (every day). But for the time being, I just can't deal with the disappointment anymore.

My life will never be the same knowing all this about Gene!!!
I'm generally amazed by the idea that some people believe that one MMO will keep them happy forever. Do people only buy one Console game and assume it's going to keep them happy forever? I bounce around so-as to not get bored. I play some Console, I play some MMO - and I bounce around between a few MMOs to keep abreast of what's new in each of them. I might play STO 10 hours a day for two weeks or I might not touch it for 2 weeks - right now I'm currently playing CoH since Issue 17 launched last week.
An LTS give people the luxury of playing whenever they want for however long they want. It's not a contract saying "you will never get bored playing our game if you buy it."
Not really been playing for the last month or so now. I occassionally log in and complete a daily, or check out the updates on tribble, but nothing really pulls me to play at the moment, I think its the fact I have to actually enter and instance to do anything, as opposed to exploring a huge persistant area, that and the itemisation in the game lacks any incentive to keep me playing that much, the B'tran items really should of been rare (blue) and not very rare (purple), that way the crafting system and running STF's would of been more desirable to gear up.
On the bright side, its an MMO, so introducing new lvl caps provide ways to provide clean slates with itemisation issues, and the kind of content that appeals to me can still be added eventually. I don't regreat my LTS, I just wish the game had a little bit more to offer for me right now
I play when the mood takes me. Sometimes there can be days without playing. At other times there can be days of playing. A slightly erratic process. But the Star Trek mood is not going away, it was firmly imprinted when my father took me to the Cinema, in '79.
I'm pretty amazed by the idea that some could be satisfied with an MMO with maybe 2 months of content available, so touche'.
One year, or one week...it's still the most shallow MMO I've ever seen produced.
The thing about an MMO is that you can come and go as you please. You pay your money, get your free month. After that you get to decide whether you wish to stay, leave, or even comeback many months later. It's not about being satisfied with anything. It's simply about understanding that people have free will and no one is forced to stay if they're unhappy with the product.
I bought ME2. I played through it in 2 weeks. It sits on my shelf now along with ME, DAO, BAA, and dozens of other games. I might play it again in a year or two or might not play it ever again. There's no difference with an MMO. You only have to pay the $15.00 if you want to keep playing it and experiencing whatever new content becomes available. Too many people feel like they're forced to pay for something they don't like. You're not. You can click cancel at any time, and you can return at any time. Cryptic is offering you a game not a permanent life experience.

Like I said, a week or a month...its a sub-par product.
You're welcome to your opinion, for sure. And Cryptic is lucky there are still a few folks like you around.
My personal hope is they never put their taint on another software title.

intresting how the title of the thread has nothing to do with the content of the OP which basically is an "i quit" post.... just that you cant.
But @ Title... yeah i actually hang out more in the Forums then in the game. But when i am ingame i have fun, mostly.
And yeah everyone knows there is not enough content. Need more Episodes, Patrols, STF's, Fleetactions... MORE MORE MORE... and FAST.
3 Klingon Episodes (random number) in Season 2 will not make up for the wait.
This game was a disappointment on a scale I have never before experienced. I too am stuck in the lifetime subscriber loop of eternal despair, so OP, you aren't the only one.
I don't think it's really an "I Quit" thread. Just a lament mostly.
Honestly, it has nothing to do with the lack of content for me. It's about the sub par quality of the programming. i.e. The Bugs. I don't remember a game I have played this far into it's life-cycle that has this many show-stopping bugs. The little stuff is bad enough, but the show-stoppers are what's killing me. It's just too much.
I have time, I will wait. The game will get better and I understand this. I am not saying this is the worst game ever.. I still have more fun in this game than I ever did in LOTRO (but then again I hated LOTRO before I even started playing it... can't stand anachronistic game settings, swords, magic, blech...).
I am personally waiting until they add some Star Trek to the so-called Star Trek MMO. So far there really isn't very much trek aside from the props and set dressing. The entire game leaves the Star Fleet ethic at the door, and makes us all act like Klingons (kill them all, ask questions...never). I don't like that. That isn't what Trek was about. The Dev's are fixing it. The "main course" is cooking, I consider this the appetizer so far.
Once we get better (or actual) exploration missions, first contact, and diplomacy missions,Starship interiors and maybe holodecks... then it will feel more like Star Trek. As it is, it feels more like Captain Doom and the Pew Pew Express.
I'm not leaving. I'm keeping my hopes up. But I won't say it's easy to do.
The forums offer to much lolz to not pop over for some reads every few days. This TRIBBLE is getting the TRIBBLE kicked out of it everywhere. Pretty entertaining.
I have a life outside of gaming. I didn't get the LTS to beat the game in two weeks. I got it in order to take my time. And when the patch that allows mission repeats is live, I will play missions over and over again. My love of Star Trek involves watching and rewatching episodes. My love of STO means I will play and replay missions.
Plus, I only get on during the weekends. And I plan on taking a break for a few weeks. Not because I dislike the game, but because I have other responsibilities.
As a lifer, I can choose when to play and when not to play and not feel guilty when I don't. I'm currently bored with STO, but I'm like that with most MMOs I've played in the past. They either lose their luster after a year or two, I need a break, or some other valid reason. It's true that STO is a subpar MMO compared to others, but it's only three months or so in right now.
I have other things to keep me busy while I wait for Season Two:
I just bought a lot of Steam games...I'm spending time playing them.
There's a little thing called "going out and socializing". I recommend doing that. It can be fun to do things with other people in RL.
Perhaps exercise and get into shape...I really should start doing that.
As for the title, I spend hours on the forums for one simple reason: work can get a bit slow at times, so I spend the time reading threads. I spend little time currently in STO, but that doesn't mean that I regret purchasing a LTS. On the contrary, the game shows potential, despite what myself and others are saying (I'm still waiting on an actual playable Klingon faction).

I still enjoy coming here now and again to debate the merits (or lackthereof) of STO.
Personally, it has been my biggest MMO letdown, worst MMO experience by far in my 10+ years MMO experience.
Yeah, it's a pretty sad statement when I can say I have spent more time in the forums in the last two months than in the game.
My life will never be the same knowing all this about Gene!!!

Yep, running a successful business from STO forums here.
